Speaker 1 (00:00):
Alabama's Morning News. I'm JT joining us now. Evan Brown,
our correspondent down in Florida, and the latest on what's
taking place with this guy that was shipped off to
that El Salvador prison, a gang member, I guess Abrego
Garcia is his name. And then the senator from Maryland
where they plucked him out of his brother's home and
(00:20):
sent him there. Chris van Holland, the Democratic Senator from Maryland,
made the trip. He didn't get to the prison, but
he did get to meet with this guy. Evan, good morning,
welcome in, thanks for being here.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
So apparently the president of El Salvador did not want
this to happen. He did not want him to know.
It was not going to help facilitate the meeting. He
was out of the country when he arrived. The senator
and the vice president made it happen.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, it did happen. It happened apparently at a restaurant
with Kilmar Abrego Garcia in street clothes, not in prison garb,
and apparently having dinner with Senator Van Holland. The photo
that Senator Van Holland, you know, sent down on his
social media with him sort of comforting him. This may
have backfired a bit, I think for Senator van Holland.
(01:07):
First of all, President Bukelly of El Salvador then tweeted
out a photo, a different photo from that night, apparently
with them having drinks having Margarita's say that that's ai.
President bu Kelly says it isn't. I'll leave it there.
But perhaps more interesting this morning was a tweet from
the White House account on x and on the right
(01:29):
side was the same picture from Van Holland's account having
dinner with the water and having his hands out at you,
comforting Albrego Garcia. And on the left was President Trump
and the Oval Office comforting the mother of Rachel Morin.
And the cap tweet was weird, not the same, And
(01:49):
I think this might have been a moment where Senator
van Holland stepped on the rake in terms of a
political thing, because the image is yeah, the image is
not good. At the end of the day, Kilmar Abregio
Garcia is still in the Seacock prison in El Salvador,
which has earned this reputation as some kind of super
alcatraz or Azkaban type place for very bad people, and
(02:13):
Senator van Holland goes back home without bringing him back
to the United States. Certainly, the US is not obligated
to readmit this guy because he was here illegally to
begin with, regardless of whether he has some kind of
gang affiliation or not. And he's a Salvadorian national, so
who is incarcerated under their law, They're not obligated to
(02:34):
release him and send him to the US. In fact,
this President Boukelly, while visiting the White House the other day, said,
you guys consider him a terrorist. Why would I send
a terrorist to the United States?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Right, I mean he was in the country illegally. Here's
where my disconnect is, Evan, maybe you can help clarify here.
As the left continues to say, he has no background
in this criminal activity with the gangs. He does not
have a criminal record, he didn't commit any crimes, convicted
of any but yet he was in the country illegally,
(03:05):
and Pam Bondi and everybody says, no, no, no, no, this
guy is an MS thirteen gang member once one always won.
He used to beat up his wife domestically, and he's
in the country illegally. So yeah, this is a gang
that doesn't play it's a death camp gang and they
like killing, they're blood thirsty, and this guy was plucked
(03:26):
and moved out of the country. How can it be
so different when the Left says, oh, he hasn't done anything,
versus he's almost done everything.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Well, whether or not he is or isn't in the gang.
MS thirteen may or may not really matter much. He
was here illegally. He was here for many years illegally.
He was eventually caught. There was a deportation order. He
then claimed tried to claim asylum, saying, if I go
back to El Salvador, I'll be killed by the gang rivals,
(03:58):
and therefore be allowed to stay for my own safety.
And then that procedure, which was filed for under President
Biden was like how it was for everyone, every other one.
It was slow walk that was held up, you know,
with paperwork. He was intentionally, allegedly, you know, made to
take a very long time to happen. And so regardless
of him being in the gang not, he was here
(04:20):
illegally and therefore subject to our immigration rules, which you
know are are are an administrative matter. You know, Yes,
the the courts are getting involved. The Article three. The
judicial courts are getting involved here. They've involved themselves somehow,
but ultimately, immigration is an Article two matter. Immigration courts
(04:41):
exist under Article two. They are not judiciary courts. And
you know, I just don't think that the district court
in DC or wherever they filed this matter is going
to ultimately have anything to do with this.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
I agree with it, Evan, I mean, great points,
