Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're officially entering into the week of Thanksgiving and a
lot of traveling going on out there. Evan brown A
corresponding in Miami this morning. Evan, good morning. Welcome in.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
So have you got any flights or travel going on
in your world?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
No? No, I avoid travel like the plague this week
every year because I'm an experienced traveler and I know
not to even attend something like this. You know, what's
real funny is that the travel stretch is always measured
as from Tuesday before Thanksgiving to Monday afterwards. And I
don't understand why people say, hey, I'm going to go
the Monday before avoid the crowd, because that never seems

(00:35):
to work. Everyone just waits until Tuesday or even Wednesday
to go, and I think that's kind of silly. However,
this year, TRIPLEA expects nearly eighty two million people to
travel more than fifty miles from home for Thanksgiving, and
the majority of them are actually going to go by car,
about seventy two to seventy three million of them, about
ninety percent we'll go by car. And that is despite

(00:57):
gas not even being that much cheaper than last year.
It's probably right around the same. The average price last
year was three oh six. I'm in Florida, where it's
a little cheaper than that. I'm seeing around two seventy
five on the ride end today this morning. But what's
interesting about the cars is that rental cars are fifteen
percent cheaper this year compared to last year. And that

(01:17):
just might be something that's encouraging people to go because
a lot of people they don't take their own car.
They maybe they have a lease, they don't want to
put the miles on it. Maybe they are city dwellers.
They normally just rely on public transit. And now they said, well,
I want to go somewhere, I need a car. I'm
going to rent one. But I also wonder if all
these EV drivers are saying, wait a second, where I

(01:38):
want to go way out in the sticks to visit Grandma.
They don't have any chargers for my EV. I better
go rent the gas car.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Well, I notice too, we're traveling. We're flying up to
Pittsburgh to see my son in West Virginia, and my
daughter and kids are all going. So there's seven of
us flying up and we looked at how are we
getting from Pittsburgh to Morgantown's an hour and fifteen minutes,
And I think should we rent it? Should we rent
a car and keep it? Should we just Uber? Since
they have cars there won't need them. We were able

(02:07):
to rent a seven passenger van for like one hundred
and twenty dollars for one day, but you know, we'll
split it two ways. So and I looked at an
Uber ride, it's like one hundred and forty dollars from
the airport now Morgantown say, it's crazy how the prices
have come down, like you mentioned on.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Rentols, Yeah, they have, and I think probably there's a
couple of reasons. One, you know, I think the rental
agencies they want the business, right, so if they want
the business, they're going to cut their prices to try
to entice you. You know, at a time where airfare
itself is not necessarily I think all that cheaper, and
you know, there may be a lot of people who

(02:47):
are put off from flying because of all of the
the air traffic issues. Just even with the government back open,
there are still air traffic issues. Because air traffic is
they're still what few thousand workers short right even from
before the shutdown. So there you know there haven't been
any real catastrophes, but maybe enough people have been put

(03:09):
off from flying to say, you know what, we'll make
the drive. We'll all squeeze into the car, We'll bring
the little travel versions of Connect four, whatever it is
we use, right, We'll just make the best of it.
Or we'll all sitting on the phone and not talk
to one another.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
All right, Well, we are going to be extremely busy
out there, there's no doubt about that. I think what's
seventy three million driving and another seven million flying. Courteous
is the keyword this year, as our Transportation and Secretary says,
let's just be nice to each other. You might want
to take some patience along with you on that trip too.
Evan Brown, thank you, buddy. I appreciate you.
