Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hannah Davis joins US now from the Federation for American
(00:02):
Immigration Reform. Hannah, Interesting, I was just talking with a
gentleman on the air about DEI and trying to get
rid of the wokeness in our country. And this administration
certainly is moving in that direction. And as you mentioned
here in this story, they're cracking down on taxpayer funding
college scholarships a benefit to illegal aliens, and this is
an issue in our country. And the fact now handed
(00:25):
at some universities are excluding US born citizens for certain
scholarships unless it's the hey, illegal immigration scholarship, which is hogwise.
But what's going on here with this? Why?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, yeah, that's exactly right. Back in July, the Department
of Education said that they would be launching an investigation
into five different universities, one in Louisville, one in Michigan, Miami, Nebraska, Omaha,
and Western Michigan basically to see if there's any unlawful
discrimination based on national origin. I can already answer that
for them, there is. You know, they give exclusively these
(00:59):
scholarships to DOCA recipients or other illegal aliens. And I
think you know, this isn't the first time the Department
of Education began cracking down this year. Back in July,
they announced that they would cut off taxpayer subsidies for
those technical education programs like at community colleges. We've got
some scholarships that are subsidizing the community college education for
(01:20):
illegal aliens. And then back in June, the dj also
filed against Texas, Kentucky, and Minnesota because they offer in
state tuition to illegal aliens but won't let an American
citizen who's not from in state get that same benefit.
And so I think, you know, this really aligns with
the current administrations America First agenda that they need to
(01:40):
crack down on these things. We need to ensure that
US citizens are not treated as second class in their
own country.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Well, I agree America First, okay, And I get helping
others out and everything. And at worst case scenario, let's
put everybody in the same bucket of potentially who gets
the scholarships here based on what criteria? And that can't
be a whoa criteria just because you're you know, an
illegal or even if you're here from another country and
(02:07):
you're working through your visa llegally, why are you going
to exclude you know, kids that graduated from high schools
in America and were born here and are US citizens
and have been their whole life. I mean to just
put them aside and not consider for scholarship based on
the needs for instance, if it's a financial issue or
the merit. If it's based on schooling and grades and acts,
(02:31):
and scholarships based on academics, then you know, I'm totally
with you on this. This is something that needs to
be fixed, and I think the Trump administration is working
on this and moving in the right direction. Speaking of
the Trump administration ramping up to use GPS ankle monitors
for illegal aliens, I'm sure the left is pushing back
hard on this one.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I believe they are. You know, currently we have about
seven point six million illegal aliens on what is called
ICE's non detained docket, So it is what it sounds like,
they're not detained by ICE. Only a fraction of those
people on the non detained docket, about a little over
one hundred and eighty thousand, are actually monitored by GPS
monitor and so there was a memo back in June
(03:12):
that's instructed ICE to essentially use GPS monitoring whenever possible,
and so they're going to ramp it up. They're going
to make sure that these people on the non detained docket,
which the non detained docket sounds a little confusing because
it also includes people who are detained but not by ice.
It includes family units, people with certain medical conditions that
they shouldn't be in detention because of that, And it
(03:34):
also includes people who are legally present but have committed
minor crimes have pending trials coming up. So it's a
slew of different people that are on this non detained docket,
and a lot of them are not monitored and they
need to be would help us to generate valuable data
on movement too. We know that these people are going
you know, it's a good way to supplement detention by
(03:55):
issuing out house arrest. So and at the end of
the day, it's going to be used as a tool
to identify and ultimately remove millions of illegal aliens from
the country.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Well, once again, it comes down to common sense and
America deserves and should have you know, people like this,
you know, checked and make sure that they're complying with
the way we do things in the United States of America,
and that includes federal laws and state laws on how
your you know whereabouts need to be looked after if
you're in this country illegally, especially so well. I appreciate
(04:26):
your insight this morning. Hannah Davis, Federation for American Immigration Reform.
We'll talk to you soon. Thank you,
