Speaker 1 (00:00):
Lots of helping going on for Hoover Helps this weekend
is that it is back on the challenge between Spain
Park and Hoover High School. The football game is at
Spain Park this weekend and it's tomorrow night. Greg Bishop
from Hoover Helps us here Hoover City Councilman Steve McClinton,
who is continuing his reign in the council as you
(00:20):
ran unopposed, and Casey Millbrooks also ran unopposed. You guys
were big winners landslide for both of them dred percent
of the vote. Yeah, that's right. Congratulations and Greg, good
to see you again. It's good to see you too.
How's your lovely wife? Everybody good? And families good.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Everybody's wonderful.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Okay, all right, talk to us about Hoover Helps. First
of all, what the organization is about, how long you've
been there and how it does help the kids.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, we've been we've been in operation for ten years now.
We had our ten year anniversary anniversary recently and our
many years.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Our mission is to help meet the basic needs of
children that live in Hoover. During that ten years, we've
given up approximately one point five million dollars by at
the majority of that goes to help feeding kids that
are food insecure.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, and when kids are out of school weekends and summer,
you know, it's not there. I mean a lot of
kids count on and depend on you know, getting to school,
having breakfast, lunch, and then you know, getting some pretty
decent nutrition. But yeah, so great job. I mean, that's
that's awesome. So this challenge, I guess, is to raise
money for Hoover Helps and help this whole program and
(01:25):
help these kids out in the Hoover community and bragging
writes I know, with the scoreboard of Hoover's game with
Spain Park. But also you know, it's a challenge every
year on which I guess group Spain Park parents and
neighborhoods versus Hoover parents and neighborhoods can raise the most
money over the ten years. Who's done better?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
It split pretty even. Last year was a little opsided.
Hoover raised thirty seven thousand versus twenty three thousand for
Spain Park. And we're looking for Spain Park to bounce
back big this year.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Okay, good, So last year, sixty thousand dollars was raised
for this event. That's incredible. That's great goals just to
beat last year's record, is that what you think?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
That's right?
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Were the sixty thousand dollars is a good target for
us to hopefully get beyond. And we're just looking for
people to if you have a business and want to
be a sponsor, if you want to go to our
website Hooverhelps dot org and donate, or you can Venmo
at Hoover Helps.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
So we make it easy on you at Hoover Helps.
That's right, Venmo, Okay, awesome. So the games tomorrow night.
I understand there's another challenge going on between Steve you
and Casey Middlebrooks, the two incumbents. Yeah, we're still on council.
Have come up with a little battle. You're a huge
Hoover guy, I know that.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
And he's a big spang Park gay guy. He's a
librarian over.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
There, right right, So what's what's the challenge you' all have?
Speaker 3 (02:49):
We have come up. Well, we both get ribbed a
lot because of our hair. He has this little Matthew McConaughey, Look,
I have my ron broken by look, so to up
the Annie and.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
I think the jury's still out on there.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Go ahead, Well, okay, anyway, we're gonna have the Hoover
helps Hunger hair challenge. Oh the team if spain Park
raises the least, who raises the least, the loser has
to have their haircut very very very race short.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Probably not number two all around, number two on the Clifton. Okay,
So does that include your beard?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
And must the beer stays? That's that's a brand.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I gotta keep it, okay, all right. So I don't
know if he can handle this, Greg. I mean, if
if Steve loses that quaff that he's got going, I
mean we could need therapy.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
So Spain Park is charged to protect Middlebrooks's locks, and
Hoover is there to help protect mcclinton's main all.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Right, So it's not the scoreboard that this challenge is
on who wins the game. This is about who raises
the most. Hoover's gonna win that game anyway, all right.
So Hoover people, you need to step up and support
the team and support Steve and and have bragging rights
again this year in Spain Park. I think the challenge
is on You're you're behind from last year, so it's
up to them to kind of step up in Well
(03:59):
and Casey Merlborks, I'm sure is out there. I think
I saw some yard signs with his face in mcconnie's
face on it. It's gonna protect my hair at Spain
Park's game this weekend.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well and JT Money talks. So if you're out there
and you want to be a participant, and you want
to be the person that shaves the heads, you know,
ten thousand dollars donation would get you a pretty good
chance to do that.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
So ten grand you get to be the guy holding
the clippers.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Oh boy, wow, Judy, do we have enough in the
four o one K? I'd kind of like to do
that ten grand. That's a lofty little yeah. Okay, otherwise,
can I do it if nobody plages ten? Uh uh? No, way,
come on, I think I think that's a great idea. Okay,
thank you, Greg. All right, you're in charge of this, Greg, This,
I mean, this is the benefit your organization.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Well, I always think it.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
You're the chairman of the board of.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
It's my hair, so the person that cuts my hair
will be a professional. The only person that cuts touches
this main is Cat from Stone Slung.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Said Okay, So if you lose, cat has to come over.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah, I come over to it.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yeah, I'm sure Casey's go somebody too.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Then I'm sure he does.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Well, this will be fun. It's tomorrow night once again
at Spain Park. They're playing over there this year. And
at the end of the game, I guess, and is
that when the challenge is over and we count the
money and see how we did. All right, you gotta
let me know. We're back in Tuesday because of the holiday,
so I can't wait to see how this goes. All right,
lots of fun, guys, Thanks for coming in.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Hoover Helps at Hoover Helps. Check it out if you'd
like to be a part of making donations to help
these kids. Thanks fellas.
