Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now, the Mayor of Hoover, as we are
doing our show live at Biscuit Belly this morning. Frank
Bricatou is here. Frank, good to see you again this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Good morning, Thank you for having me.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm glad you stopped by. I see you got your
coffee going over there.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Actually it's a little water okay, I got to tell you.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
The coffee here. I don't know what it is about
good restaurant coffee versus at silly cure I have to
use every morning.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
But well, well it's a great atmosphere, it's a great
place for it.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
And actually I'll get a couple of coffee.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Well, well let's just call it. You're no stranger to
do a Biscuit Belly.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
No, no, no, I'm not all right, all.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Right, Well, well, good to see us. So big event
tomorrow night if the Hoover met with our wine fest
and hope to see you in the mississ stip buy
six till nine tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Absolutely, we're glad to host them for the first year.
It's going to be a wonderful event. I hope we
see a lot of people out here, and it's.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
A great venue.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
We we really I think we know how to throw
a party and who undo, Yeah, time or two, that's
for sure.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
So we'll be at the Hoover met tomorrow night from
six till nine, so I know the whether it's going
to be a little dicey tomorrow afternoon. These you know,
weather related storms and humidity and things come through, so
heat activated will happen. But by six o'clock tomorrow night
we should should be in the clear on that.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
So well, that's just you know, that's weather in the South.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
What can I say, one hundred percent? So what's on
your agenda this week? Front and center on the Mayor's
desk and Hoover Well.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
You know, may is such a such a busy busy
month for us. Of course next week we uh, of
course next week we have the Mayor's Prayer breakfast. Coachy
Boy will be here speaking at the Winfrey. Very excited
to have him and in our city. That's that's wonderful.
Right on the heels of that, the region's golf tournament.

(01:42):
That's right, people in from all over the world and
you know, one of the major senior golf tournaments here
in the city.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
We're proud to host that has been.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Here for gosh, I don't know, twenty five or thirty
years right now, right and then right on the hills
of that is the SEC Baseball Tournament, And certainly we're
really excited about that because number one, they bring in
the you know, we expanded the SEC expanded two more
teams with Texas and Oklahoma, and so we can't wait

(02:11):
to entertain the folks from Texas and Oklahoma as well.
And the new renovations that the MET are just spectacular.
And the other thing that's really exciting about that quarter
there is all of the businesses and the development that
has been created. Yeah, since the Fendly Center and the
MET have been built and rejuvenated, so to speak.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
You know, we live right down the road from the
MET in Finley Center, and you know, it's amazing how
busy the Findley Center is and how many different activities
and events take place there. Yeah, it seems there's always
a full lot in that area and something going on.
To get on that calendar to use the Fendly Center,
if you're an organization, you better plan ahead.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
You certainly may. And what's what's kind of nice is.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
When that it wasn't built and we came in the
office that had been approved, so we had to get
it built and get it ready for the SEC. Right
there really wasn't a big plan. So I'm real proud
of our city. We have really turned this area in
our city into a sports tourism mecca. Some nearly a
million people a year, about nine hundred thousand, Yeah, come

(03:20):
through this facility and one way or another, everything from
little league types of sports certainly to the you know,
the premiere event event being the SEC Baseball tournament. But
it has a tremendous economic impact on our economy as well.
So I'm really proud of the city and how we
have been able to develop that.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Well, I got it. You mentioned the economic impact on that.
It's got to be huge. I mean the amount of
hotels that have been built in Hoover, the restaurants in
this area that we're in right here at Brock's Gap
with Biscuit Belly and sand Balls, right around the corner
Clean Eats, You've got Trey Luna and on down into
the Aldie Shopping Center and just this whole stretch down
one Fit. I mean, it is booming with all types

(04:03):
of different businesses that you know, celebrate and certainly accommodate
the out of towners had come in for so many
events in the city over that's got to be a
big money impact.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
It has a tremendous about ninety million dollar impact on
our that's incredible economy. But you know, years ago we
were able to develop, for the first time in the
history of Hoover, a comprehensive plan, and that gave us
a road map. When you take an area like this,
it was undeveloped. I mean the road to the met

(04:33):
ended right there to the entrance to the met when
I came into office. You look at it now, it's
kind of the center and the masterpiece of the entire
metro area, not just Hoover, but it's a place where
everybody comes.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
They love being here.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
I just when I visit other parts of the state
and people talk about, oh, we were at the Hoover
met Our kids were playing baseball or volleyball or soccer,
and what a great facility it is. And then you
you see people coming from all over the country playing
baseball or other types of events, and how much they
enjoy our city, how lively it is and vibrant, and

(05:10):
number one, how welcoming we are.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah, And in Hover, I tell you, is always you know,
moving forward, and there's always development going on, and whether
it's neighborhoods or retail or whatnot, there's always seems to
be a few projects happening in Hoover. And a lot
of people ask me all the time, what are we
going to do about Pad and Creek. I know it's
been sold, so you've been in touch with those folks. Yeah,

(05:34):
what are the plans moving forward? Have they laid out
the comprehensive plan to kind of get some you know, yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Number one JC. Until the owners want to do something,
you can't do anything. Yeah, I mean that's just a fact.
We don't own it, we don't control it. It's been
under four ownerships since I've been in office.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
We had a pretty good.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Plan I thought about three or four years ago, and
they literally disappeared and what happened. They were sold And
I actually talked to him over the last couple of months,
the old owners and just talking about what are your plans.
I talked to him on a Monday. He said, by
the way, we've sold it and we're closing on Tuesday,
so you know, we're talking to the new owners. They

(06:17):
bought a hundred properties and that was one of them.
Uh so they're trying to get their arms around as well.
But look, we'll get to Padden Creek. Padd And Creek
will develop when they are ready, and certainly we're ready.
I'm focusing on bringing great businesses that are, you know,
love our city, want to invest in our seat. For instance,
we're gonna we're probably gonna open Trader Joe's in about

(06:38):
two weeks.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yep, Trader Joe's.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
They don't They could go anywhere in the world that
they want to go, they chose. They chose Hoover, Alabama.
Those are the types of businesses that we're getting. This
last week we opened up the world headquarters for bass
Masters International. I mean, come on, when when we were
over there cutting that ribbon, the president was telling me

(07:03):
that they're bringing big league professional players in that football
they want to come and learn how to fish or interesting,
they're bringing movie stars, all these types of dignitaries. And
how we sold that property to them in terms of
moving here. There's a gorgeous lake out there, and it
took a community on that lake that was willing to

(07:27):
partner with these folks to help us bring them here.
That's the kind of city we.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Are well, and that's some more economic impact coming with
that as well, for sure. Well, good to see I
hope to see you tomorrow night at our Magic City
wine Fest at the Hoover met It should be a
lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
We'll see you there.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Thank you.
