Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're live at Biscuit Belly this morning, so come on by.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
We'd love to have you stop in, get some coffee,
delicious biscuits, of course, and we're all getting excited about
the big event tomorrow at the Hoover met the Cohaba
Dermatology Magic City Winefest, the eighth annual. I can't believe
that's eight years already. So six till nine tomorrow night.
The bad weather should be out of here by then
and it'll be nice, cool, perfect weather for it tomorrow
night after the rain comes through. We are expecting a

(00:24):
little bit of rain tomorrow afternoon, but once again that
should clear out by the time the winefest starts. Joining
us now Hoover City Councilman Steve McClinton and Ashley Lovell,
who is also going to be running for a council
post position. Welcome guys, good to see you, Good morning,
Good morning, hey Ashley. All right, let's Steve start with
you and the charity that's going to be involved this
will benefit from tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, with the wine fest. Hoover Helps Neighborhood Bridges.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Oh absolutely so I've been involved with Neighborhood Ridges and
Hoover Helps for many years and the impact it has
in the community is just unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
And we're gonna be talking with David Banister from the
charity in just a few minutes as he is here. Well,
but you know, Hoover Helps and what they're doing with kids,
it's all about the kids that are struggling, you know,
to be able to get good, nutritious meals all the time.
During school time, it's not too bad. But on weekends
and in summertime, oh yeah, big time, it's hard. Exactly

(01:17):
a lot of folks. Hoover is blessed among measure, but
we still have pockets of people who have need.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
We have haves, we have have nots, and neighborhood bridges
and Hoover helps helps bridge that gap between the have
and have nots.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, Ashley, I mean, here we are. It's a campaign
season now. It's could be a lot of changes coming
down to August elections. Council members, some are staying on,
some are moving to different positions.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
There'll be open spots.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
The mayor's race is going to be interesting with Frank
Procato a CERR mayor and Hoover PD chief Nick Jersey
is now throwing his hat into this and you're going
to be running as well.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
So what what spot are you running from?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Absolutely I'm running, hold on, go ahead, I'm running for
place three and yeah it's going great. So I encourage
everybody if you want to check out what I got
going on, get a team Ashley on Facebook or team
Ashley dot org.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
So why why did you jump in? What's what's most
important to you? And what do you see the biggest concerns.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
I love Hoover. I'm from Hoover, I was raised in Hoover,
and I want to see Hoover thrive for generations to come.
So it's important to have strong leadership, transparency, accountability, keep
the schools and safety great. And of course it's all
about smart development too. So it's kind of a three
prong thing.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, well, let's talk about the schools, because you know,
there's always a lot of attention put on Hoover schools.
They've done, you know, really well, but there's also challenges.
Where do most of those challenges lie in your mind?

Speaker 4 (02:46):
As far as the challenges go with the schools, teacher ratio,
special needs, that type of thing. So, because Hoover City
Schools is a top location for special needs individuals and
so funding for that is very important.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
All right. So your campaign's underway.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I see your social media posts and you live out
in the Graystone area. I do, I do, so that'll
be an interesting race here. So your anticipation on the
mayor's race and what you're thinking about that.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Oh man, I think that it's all about strong leadership,
So I think that. Yeah, I think we'll see all right, guys.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Well, I appreciate you stopping in, and Steve, good to
see you.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
You're welcome.
