Speaker 1 (00:00):
Life and plastic may not be fantastic because the plastic
might be killing us. Joining me now is doctor fab Mancini,
Doctor fab tell me about this plastic microplastic. I understand
this in everything, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Well? One of the things to recognize is that there
are fis called salads, which are synthetic chemicals that are
put in the plastics to make them soft, flexible, and
long lasting. And that's why you find them everywhere from
shampoos to hairsprays, to plastic wraps, vinyl floors, you name it.
But now research has shown that it's not only ten

(00:37):
percent of the cardiovascular death globally associated took salad, but
it's also something that is in impacting and decreasing our tissoscerone,
our sperm count, messing up with our hormones, increased asthma, obesity,
and even cancer.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
And when we talk about these things, we don't even
realize how many things these products you're in, Like you said,
they're in things we're eating and drinking. And I understand
that bottles of water that those plastic chemicals can even
get into there, and I guess they build up in
our bodies over time, right.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yes, I mean, according to the microplastics in bottle of water,
ninety percent of the bottle water brands have already had
been tested and studies have shown that have micro plastic.
But the good news is that we have to realize,
even though that we're getting this in our air, our food,
our drinks, and our skin contact, that there are things

(01:34):
that we can do. Like we can switch our plastic
bottle for maybe a glass bottle or stainless steel. You know,
we can choose fragrance free products. Fragrance is a word
that salad's hide under when it comes to our creams
our perfumes. We can filter our water and that will
remove some of the microplastic. We can read the labels

(01:57):
on kids toy and find toys that say salad free.
I mean, there are things that we can do to
ensure that we're not putting that into our system.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
What about our homes. Our homes are plumbed. If you
have a house that was built say after I don't know,
nineteen seventy or nineteen eighty, there's a lot of PDC
piping in our house. Can that PBC can it? Does
it have plastics in? I mean the polyvinyl chloride. Does
it have stuff in it that can get into our
water that we're consuming.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
It's not just our water. But also remember that one
of the challenges is the heat. It's like microwaving. And
I know all this is going to be rubbing some
people the wrong way. But whenever you microwave in a
plastic container or any food, this heat tastes that salad,
which is a synthetic chemical and puts it inside your food,
even beefer, which means that now you're ingesting that. So yes,

(02:50):
for the house, you have to use filters. That's one
of the things that a lot of homes are now
using filters when it comes to their waters. But also
I would use air filters too, because remember when you
feed a plastic it goes into the air too, so
you want to pick it up from the air also,
and air filters are there a wonderful way to do that.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
And I guess, Nina, and now I was thinking about
I guess the PVC pipe that's in your house is
on usually on the drain side. I believe that the
high pressure stuff with the water pressure on it is
still copper, so maybe you're okay on that, although who
knows what's lining the inside of those copper pipes.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Right, Yes, And it's not just the pipes. I mean,
the realization is that you're going to have anything that
is plastic in that household, and anything that is vinyl.
I mean, I don't know if you remember in the
eighties we put vinyl everywhere, but there's still a lot
of homes that have a lot of vinyl included. And
especially if you're buying vinyl flooring, or if you're buying

(03:44):
vinyl shower purchase or even badge. When we travel, just
try to make sure that you try to find products
that says ballet free, because that will be a great
suggestion for you.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Okay, So it's the pallites that we have to worry about.
Doctor Fadmin. Thank you so much for joining us and
explaining all that. I'm excited about. One more thing that
I have to worry about. To be perfectly honest, I
guess I don't worry about it.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
You know.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I eat things that are that are pre prepared in
the microwave and all that kind of stuff, and I
don't know. So far, I'm forty seven and I'm still alive,
so maybe it's not gonna kill us. As fast as
they all say it will, but it's something to think about.
