Speaker 1 (00:00):
Alabama's Morning News. My name is John Mounts, filling in
for JT. And President Trump has had a busy week
and he's not even on the job yet. Joining me
to talk about this is Jared Halprin from DC. Jared,
welcome to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Thanks for having me. Good morning, Good.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Morning, Garrett, Jared, So already he what did he do?
He called the New York Stock Exchange into order, he
gave a little speech. He's been talking about what's going
on in China. He's been a very busy guy here,
hasn't he.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, it's a transition. Transitions are historically busy. And you're right,
yesterday was a big day for the President elect. He
was named the Time Person of the Year, which is
what the magazine has done to kind of acknowledge the
most newsworthy individual or newsworthy event of the last year,
and the second time that they have named Trump as
(00:50):
the person of the year both times following his election wins,
defying a lot of political convention in doing so. And
you're right, he kind of celeb that by ringing in
the New York Stock Exchange yesterday, something he seemed to
really enjoy. I thought, what was the most noteworthy part
of the Time magazine distinction is the lengthy interview that
(01:13):
he gave with the magazine. Is part of that issue
where he does talk a lot about what he intends
to do once he takes office. Also a warn that
bringing down grocery prices may take longer than he had hoped,
talked about his disapproval of allowing Ukraine to use American
(01:35):
made and American supplied weapons to strike inside Russia. Talked
about his belief that the military could be used in
some capacity for deportation operations. So it was a pretty
newsworthy interview and one that shines some light on the
kind of how he's approaching his first one hundred days
in office.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
And Jared, another interesting thing is his you know, he's
kind of had an on again an off again relationship
with China, and he's invited Chinese, the Chinese president to
his inauguration. So is this signaling that he's going to
try and maybe on a men's infences.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I don't know if they're going to mind fences. He's
talked about having trying to to you know, have it,
and it's a very similar policy to what President Biden
has done. Right that you want to manage this competition.
And obviously President elect Trump has been promised a hardline
approach with with China with tariffs. At the same time,
(02:30):
his spokes people say that he is willing to sit
down and talk with anybody, even adversaries. I don't think
that she's actually going to show up to the inauguration.
That would be pretty extraordinary, but it's noteworthy again that
he is going to try and and you know, have
these relationships abroad that again are unconventional and not kind
(02:51):
of the way that official diplomacy works in other types
of administration.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Well, as we all know, Donald Trump is anything but
conventional when it comes to president's correct Every week, when
you think that he's done the most outrageous thing, he
does something more outrageous. So, Jared, thank you so much
for joining us today on Alabama's Morning News. I can't
wait for the next four years to unfold. It's gonna
be incredible.
