Speaker 1 (00:00):
Job mounts in for JT. We've been talking a lot
on this Cyber Monday about buying stuff online, including Amazon
and now Fox is Ford is jumping into Amazon's online
car sales business. In Fox News is Jeff Monaso joins
us now from Chicago. Jeff, So you can buy a
car from Ford on Amazon?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Get Yeah, well, it's for now, it's used cars, but
eventually yes, I mean, we know that you can bribe
brand new Hyundais via Amazon's platform. But Ford just announcing
that it's it's jumping into Amazon's online car sales business,
saying that customers will soon be able to shop for, finance,
and purchase certified pre owned vehicles on Amazon authos. Perhaps
(00:41):
just testing the waters for now, in a program that
first debuts in La Seattle and Dallas and later other
locations over time. Amazon Auto is it's Amazon's online car
buying platform and essentially it allows us to shop for new, used,
certified pre owned vehicles from participating dealerships in an effort,
(01:04):
they say, is to simplify the car buying process where
customers can browse vehicles by make, model, trim and features
and compare prices. I think this is what we're calling John.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Now, this sounds like it'd be a great thing for consumers.
But dealerships, you know, they used to make a lot
of money, not on the sale of the car itself,
but in terms of all that extra stuff, like the
creative way they would finance something, the warranty package maybe
you know, that dreaded undercoat, or the packages you'd upsell.
And with with something like Amazon, you wouldn't have a
(01:37):
you know, a car salesman in between you and the vehicle.
Great for you, but like I said, the car dealership,
where does that leave them?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Well, look, I mean you can still just get scammed online.
And you know who knows whether or not those those
added features will be on on a vehicle that the
automaker is selling. Remember the automaker or the dealer is
selling the vehicle. Uh, it's just that Ford is using
the platform, Amazon's platform to sell those vehicles right now,
(02:04):
used cars, and so there's going to be a profit
for dealers. You know, they can make those And right now,
Ford is saying any sort of so this is used
Ford cars or pre owned whatever you want to call them,
pre driven and Ford is saying that any certified pre
owned vehicle sold by dealers on Amazon Autos. It comes
(02:27):
to the fourteen day, one thousand mile money back guarantee. Again,
Hyundai's doing it. They're selling new cars. But you know,
we're already for the most part, looking online and you know,
browsing by make, model, and you know, and we're looking
at prices, and we're using the internet to say, okay,
what's your bottom line, what's the out of the door price,
(02:47):
And there are schemes and tricks that are still being
used to try and get us into the dealer. You know,
the only thing we really can't do is you can't
test drive it. You can't smell the inside of the car.
Obviously that's important, and you know you want to make
sure it's good and solid and safe. So there's still
going to probably be a need. But you know, with
Amazon all those if you're if you're a trusting person there,
(03:10):
you're gonna be able to do everything right there and
then they will have a car deliverery your driveway. Hopefully
you'll like it.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Jeff, I don't trust anything on the internet, let alone
used cars. That just seems like it's a recipe for
a disaster. Jeff Monasso from Fox News Live from Chicago.
Thank you so much for joining us this morning. Jeff
