Jeff Monosso with the latest on Bryan Kohberger

I'm John Mounts in for JT. The latest on the
Brian Coburger case. Because he is he's pled guilty and
he's gotten a plea bargain, but not everyone is happy
about it. Jeff Manosso joins us. Now, so I understand
two of the families are still very upset that they
were not consulted that he is not going to get
the death penalty.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yes, so two two families are okay with it. The
families of of Kay League and Calvis and Aina Kernoble, though,
are not happy with it. Madison Mogan and Eton Champion's
family said, okay, this this, you know, perhaps this spares
them along our Jewish painful trial in Germans. Of the evidence,

(00:44):
the pictures, the testimony. The other families wanted them dead
because he faced the death penalty, and and and Coberger
faced the possibility of an execution by firing squad, which
is is Idaho Governor Bill Little's he made that the
states preferred definitely method this year, some of the Calvas

(01:06):
family members work to help pass that bill. Uh and
and so, but it's it's it's actually, well, there's not
there's a chance that they could lobby the judge during
sentencing didn't tell him to you know, you know, send
it to trial. Uh, doubtful that that would happen. The
prosecution says, look, you know, we we were not in

(01:29):
the people business in terms of victims, but you know,
if they're human, they have a heart. And and and
sometimes victims families they're consulted. They weren't consulted this time.
But the state argues that, look, you know, this is
going to save this is going to wrap up the case.
This is going to save uh taxpayers millions of dollars potentially,

(01:51):
that that that they work for, the state that they
work on behalf of the taxpayers. Uh. And and that
this this is uh, this is you know, the best
way for all to end it. But obviously if you're
if you're one of the victims families not agreeing to this,
it's a painful decision.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
And also I understand that with the him pleading guilty,
that there will not be a chance for any sort
of appeal. And he's going to be in solitary confinement
twenty three out of twenty four hours of a day.
It's not like he's going to a minimum security one
of those prisons where they have, you know, like outdoor
rowing and that kind of thing. It's going to be
a fairly serious sentence. Even if he is escaping the

firing squad.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Well, he'll never see the light of day. He's going
to get he's going to get at least four life
sentences plus more. And and and you know, inmates don't
take kindly to people who kill young people, children, these
college students, these girls. So his faith in prison is
he's he's in danger. And you know people have a

(02:53):
different opinion on that. But you know what's interesting about this,
this plea deal, is that he offered up no explanation
as to why. So it's going to be interesting to see,
you know, the case has been sealed and so once
the once it's over, it'll be interesting to see what
what you know, what what prosecutors had. And it appears,

(03:15):
based on what we know, John, that they had overwhelming
evidence against Brian Coburger.
