Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our program director, John Mallin says, wandered it into the
studio after a nice little vacation. And this is a
guy mckenzi. I don't know if you've worked with people
before that. We'll leave vacation time on the table at
the end of the year, you know, because we can't transfer.
We can transfer our sick days, but you use it
or you lose it. With a lot of companies, vacation time.

(00:20):
John is a guy that you know has he's worked
here for I think since the early.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Sins Marconi invented the radio.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah, you had a couple of different phases here.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I started ninety six, Yeah, and I left, I came back,
and I've been here this last time thirteen years.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
So okay, so you've probably worked your way into at
least four weeks of vacation every year.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Okay. Last year, how many of those weeks did you use?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I used two days, two days, two days.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
So our boss, the big Boss, John worked his tailoff
I think early spring.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
It was for something.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
It was last year, the coverage of Hurricane Helen.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
And you slept here you were, and you've got the
Southeast news departments for other stations.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
You're on coverage for our station. I mean, I.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Don't know how you do it. And being a single
dad to you were just rocking it. So our area
present in Mobile has I guess the relationship with one
of the resorts there and gave you a nice getaway
and basically said, you know, take.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Vacation or I'm going to fire you. You know.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
So he said, here, I'm going to take care of
it for you. So you and Alex, your daughter, and
some other folks.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
We invited along Alex's aunt and uncle and her cousins,
which gave her a built in, you know, friend structure.
Since you have people to play with the bug meat
the whole time.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Well that's good. I mean she probably enjoyed that. So
what's the name of the place.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
It's called the Beach Club. It's very non discriby.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I'm familiar with that. Oh yes, very nice.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, very nice. I got like like four big buildings
in the little cottages.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
What's the main road that goes down there. It's the
road you get on to get to the Beach Club, and.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
You know, I think it's Gold Source Parkway. Is it
that I think she's more familiar than I I've literally
been this one.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
I thought there's another road. It escapes in my mind anyway.
So it's a beautiful place.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
It is.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
It is so highlights of your trip. I gotta know
what was one of the highlights you had?

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So I went for I thought it'd be a great
idea to go for. You know, I like to walk.
I went for this big, long walk on the beach
and I took off my shoes and I started down
the beach. I got about five miles down and I said,
you know what, I'm going to have to come back.
So then I had to walk five miles back. Oh now,
I didn't consider that at some point you've worn off
all the dead skin on your feet and now you're

(02:32):
working on the live skin. I have so many blisters.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Oh wow. So you're walking in the hard sand where yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
But you know you scrape your foot now and again
and before you know it. Because I was I was
thinking to walk from the beach club all the way
down to Fort Morgan.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Okay, at the very end of the Urgon Road. That's
the road. I was thinking, Yeah, so that's at the.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Very end of It's eight miles all the way down there.
I think, Wow, that'd be sixteen miles round trip. I
thought I could do it. But on the sand it's
a lot slower on like concrete.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Well at least you were on the hard sand. Lots
slower in the soft sand. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
But that was I But I actually really enjoy walking,
so that was fun. And I listened to my iHeartRadio
app the whole time.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
All right, well, listen John's available single Ladies, And there
it is right there.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
He likes wong locks and long walks on the beach. Yeah,
there it is at sunset actually sun rise.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Oh come on, now, you're really turning up. What's next,
pumpkin spice candles?

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Oh yeah, okay, I hate pumping low lights of the
trip for you.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
So remember I said I imported my my, my daughter's cousins,
so they were all aunts.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
And uncles and answer, how many people were there? Six?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Okay, so not not too many, but yeah enough, And
it was a nice scoose So I felt like I
was like bumming along with another family because you know,
mom and dad and two kids and then my daughter too,
so but then they were fighting all the time. So
oh yeah, this is why a big family is a problem. Forgot.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
It reminds me of that time we went down to
the holiday and resort in Panama City Beach and you
rode with me for some reason.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I don't know why you rode with me. I think
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
So we get there and we all go out to dinner,
a group of us, and somebody said to John, so
what did you think about writing down with JT and
his wife?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
And he said, what did you say?

Speaker 2 (04:04):
It's like riding with mom and dad and you're always
fighting over the radio and Judie's always yelling at you, Jeff,
slow down.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Oh my gosh. Well, I'm glad you had a good time.
And what a beautiful resort.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
It's a wonderful place. It is great. I highly recommend it.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well well deserved.
