Speaker 1 (00:00):
John Wall joins us now the chairman of a Republican
party and also the chairman of the Alabama Library Service.
John welkme in, thanks for being here.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Oh, it's good to be on the show.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Well, I still find it odd that you're the chairman
of the Alabama Public Library Organization Service whatever you want
to call it, but you are. And that's an interesting
role that you have with them in that usually the
libraries around our country, when it comes to the content
of the books in there, lean in a little different
direction than the Republican guy, I would think. But I'd
(00:34):
like the fact that you're there as chairman. Can I
keep an eye on things? So a big meeting the
other day? What happened in the meeting?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, so actually yesterday, And look, I'm going to address
a little bit of what you said. It's true, you know,
not necessarily the normal positioner where you would think I
would be. And it actually comes from my background. I
was raised in rule Alabama. Library is always important to me.
I love our libraries and I think my life and
actually took that with the point by the governor before
(01:02):
all this controversy came up, because I do love our libraries,
but Once this controversy came up and parents started bringing
the stuff that their children were innocent, children were still
light across in their library, in their libraries, my heart broke.
You know. There was no other work for it, but
it was deep sadness because as I looked at the material,
I was like, not only should parents be concerned about this,
(01:26):
every single Alabama and every single American should be concerned
about this. We as a society protect children from things
like sexually explicitness. That's why we do our rate of movies,
that's why we have rated video games. And so we
started this process a year ago and yesterday we had
a public comment period where we said, look, we're not
going to let sexually explicit kind, and we're not going
to let encourage children to transition and this transgender nonsense
(01:51):
and this Wolk ideology. We're not going to keep it
in our libraries. We're going to move it out of
the children's sections so our children, innocent children don't stumble
across it.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Well, I'm a hundred percent with you there. So I
know you've got some pushback from from the left and
people you know that are out there on the other
side saying, oh, it's just entertainment. Who are you to
tell us what to do with the you know, free
speech and you know putting this stuff out there, it's
they're not forced to look at it. And look, I'm
one hundred percent with you here. But so how how
(02:21):
in the meeting was their opposition present there?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Oh? Absolutely, Look, they called the board everything from I've
been called everything from a nazi to a book burner
to censorship. It's really sad where we've gotten to this
country where you can't have an open, honest dialogue on
what's best for our families. And that's where we're at.
The Left just like the call names. They like to
(02:44):
talk to it. And look, they were overwhelmed. Yesterday. We
had over eight thousand public comments that were submitted to
the APLS board. Of those, over six thousand were in
favor of this change. So the people of Alabama spoke
very clearly, with eighty to twenty eighty percent more in
support of cleaning up our libraries. The left couldn't stand that.
(03:05):
They just started yelling name calling. The end of the
meeting kind of kind of turn into just this ruckus
screaming match and really highlight it once again. If they
can't win. All they have are personal insults.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Well sure, I mean, and they get violent, they spray
paint everything, and you know they'll be dragged long streets.
You know, they'll they'll take all their clothes off in
Portland and lay on the interstate. I mean it's bizarro
behavior first of all. But secondly, if the vote is
in there like that, then enough said. So it's over right.
I mean, we've made the decision in our public library systems.
(03:40):
Now will individual communities and municipalities around the state be
able to do it anyway? If they just say, well,
we just won't tell anybody, and you know, this is
our little community. We're going to do it anyway, don't
worry libs.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, yeah, well what's going to happen. And I encourage
all your listeners out there, you know, if you're a
concerned parent, if you're someone who's in the library, you
have children in the library, and you find this content,
take it, take a picture of it, submit it to
the APLS. Because we want to make sure that all
every single Alabama library is a welcoming place for Alabama
(04:12):
families and that our children's sections remain family friendly and
remain and we remain committed to it. So if they
leave it in their youth sections, they'll be they will
put their STACE funding at risk, and we will pull
their STAY funding. So there are consequences if they disobey,
and we want to make sure that we stay connected
with the people of Alabama right and that they're put
first and they have the rights and they have the
(04:33):
ability for redress of grievance if they find something they
think it's inappropriate.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
I mean, who in their right mind is cool with
drag queens twerking in front of a ten year old's face.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I mean, that's that's what I want to know. That's
what I want to know. JT. I think I think
we can do better there. It doesn't matter with your Republican,
Democrat or independent trying to sexualize our children.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
I love the argument, what, it's just entertainment. They we're
just having fun. No, I don't think so. In people
that bringing their kids to these types of things at
that early age, I just what are you doing? I
don't understand it, you know, and this whole thing about
don't get me started on transgenders. You know, under the
age of you know, eighteen, you're in the pediatrician's office
(05:16):
discussing what wow well and then the six year olds
don't even know what transitioning is.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
And the fact that we have people who want to
encourage us, we want to put they want to push
us on our kids just shows how sick our society
has become.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, well, congrats on the vote there, and the Alabama,
like you said, has spoken about this, and you're taking
the leadership role in all of this, and you know,
thank God, you know you're in a position that you're
in to be able to handle this. So thank you, John.
I appreciate you being on with you this morning.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Hey, we're going to fight for all in my family.
And then always got to be on the show.
