Speaker 1 (00:00):
We've got John Waller, GOPA chair here in Alabama talking
about President Trump in just a second. But Todd is
calling us from Hoover this morning. Todd, good morning, You're
on Alabama's Morning news. What's on your mind?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Helloee hey.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
First of all, First of all, we haven't been to
Biscuit Belly in a while. I want to bring that up.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Second of all, hold on, many, hold on, you're bringing
up Biscuit Belly. I'm coming to Biscuit Belly do my
show live tomorrow. We're gonna be there talking about the
big wine fest coming up Saturday. We'll have a lot
of folks tied to the wine fest, a lot of
Hoover folks are going to be there. I'm going to
have both mayors there, and yeah, it's gonna I say,
both mayors, both mayors that are going to be running
chief Jerseys, and Frank Brocato, a current mayor, and some
(00:39):
others are going to be there too. So Todd, I
invite you to come buy a Biscuit Belly tomorrow morning
as we do our show live there.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
So go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Well I stand corrected, my brother, So thank you so
very much for the update on that I am taking
my little second grader, Liam to Briarwood right now. And
he's kept asking for the last couple two three days
about the signs that he's seen for mayor Frank Bricado
and Nick Dursys, and I said, hey, I said, let's
call JT and see what his thoughts are. So I'm
(01:06):
gonna turn it over to Liam Lemon. Ask JT. Rubick,
what are you not on the mayor race?
Speaker 1 (01:12):
What do I think about it? I think it's going
to be a competitive race. I think both men are
smart men. They are both friends of mine that I've
known for years. In fact, Nick Dursys used to be
married to my wife's cousin. I like Frank Bercado. He's
(01:32):
a kind man and it's always been good to me.
And I think they both bring some real positive things
to our city. And we'll see how the competition goes
and the race goes. The elections not till this August,
so there's a lot of time between now and then.
But the current mayor has said that he is going
to stay in the race, despite the fact that he
(01:55):
did ask Chief Dursys from the police department to run
for mayor. He says yeah, you want to do that.
I don't know why the current mayor would ask somebody
else to run and then they do if they were
going to compete against them, But apparently that's what we
have right now. So we shall see which one wins
the election. But yeah, I think they both bring a
lot of good things to the table and a lot
(02:17):
of things people are talking about now. You know, it'd
be good for a change. You know, Frank Procato's been
in that position for quite some time. Maybe change would
be good to you know, just get some fresh blood
and fresh ideas in there. There's been some controversy and
issues with the council and the mayor's office over the
last year or so that at least I've become aware of,
(02:37):
and it's been made public through a number of different
news outlets that there has been some friction there and
some of the residents not happy with some of the
things going on internally.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
If you're going to be.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Running a city, let's stop the squabbling and do the
people's business development projects around the City of Hoover. Like
any city that goes through this type of thing, we'll
have discussion, debate. Money's always in issue on this, so yeah.
I think there's a lot of things that have come
to the forefront now and it will be an interesting
race because of that. But right now, I think both
(03:09):
men certainly have been very good in the jobs that
they do, and Frank was the former chief of the
fire department and has certainly a good background with Hoover,
and so does Chief Nick Durseys, current police chief.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
There.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
So let me ask you, who do you think would
be the better mayor based on what you know about
the city of Hoover where.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
You live in.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Who do you think, buddy, who do you think would
be a better mayor? Just like he said, it's chief
of police or our current mayor Frank Barcato, who's running
for re election.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
So do you want a new mayor in there? Change
things up a little bit? Okay? So there you go.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
There it is, there, it is. He just said he
wants j t Okay, sure, I'll run for mayor. No
I won't.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I'm killing Hey, Ian, I tell your dad to bring
bring you on over to Biscuit Belly tomorrow and have
a biscuit with me before you head off to school tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
You okay, okay, say yes, sir, Say thank you very
much and go Trump.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Right, that's right, go Trump. Thank you, buddy. I appreciate you.
Smart kid. Right there, this is nice. Thank you for calling.
Thank you guys for listening to appreciate you. John Wall
joins us. Now our Alabama gopach here as Donald Trump
is getting ready to go to TUSCALUSID.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
John, welcome in. Thanks for being here.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Oh, it's good to be on the show. I love
that you just got asked the questions instead of a guest.
That's the way talk readers should be. We should be
asking the host of questions.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
There you go, all right, I'm going to ask you.
I'm going to ask you a question. Then are you
going to Tuscaloosa today? Will you be with the president?
And what time and where should I meet you to
get the pass that you've got for me?
Speaker 5 (04:51):
All right, so I will be over at the Universe
of Alabama today, although they're telling me there's not going
to be much time for the president. He's pretty mu
flying in Air Force one will land. They're going to
get him to the venue. He's going to talk to
the students, and then they're going to get him back out.
So it's going to be a pretty quick turnaround. But
I love that. I love that he chose Aladell. You know,
(05:12):
this whole thing. You know, there's been to be back forth,
but all the colleges in the country right now, he's
only schedule at two and it's University of Alabama in
West Point, And I think that's that's pretty cool for
the state of Alabama.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, it's pretty amazing, and I think it's an honor
to have the President of the United States come address
the student body at Alabama.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
It'll be a Coleman Coliseum.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
It starts at seven o'clock with the President expected to
start his address then, and we will carry that here,
by the way, on our radio station tonight at seventh
So if you you know, cannot find it anywhere and
you'd like to hear it, certainly turn us on seven
o'clock tonight as well. So I understand Coach Saban will
also be there addressing the students.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
No, that's right. I mean, you got the best president
of my lifetime and the best football coach in my
lifetime right there in the same spot. So this is
going to be a good day for Alabama, good an
exciting time for the students over there too. You know,
there's been some pushback from Democrats. I mean, Doug Jones
is over there rallying against it, you know, protesting of course,
(06:12):
come to visit. And I just find that so disingenuous
that we have that anyone would be negative towards the
fact that we have a city US president, most powerful
man in the world, who wants to make students priority,
who wants to talk to young people the next leaders
of our country, and that anyone would criticize that. I
think that really shows where the Democrat Party is in
(06:32):
our country right now.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Zero self awareness and zero self awareness as far as
the American people's desire from their political party. I mean,
the Democrats continuing to double down on their mantras even
after getting you know, swamped by Donald Trump in the election.
They're just not coming off what made them lose. You know,
I've never seen a party lose voters like they are
(06:55):
doing now. And even people that serve on the Democratic
Party are abandoning ship up because it's just not the
direction they want to be a part of. I mean,
you don't see Republicans bailing jumping onto the Democrats side
of the Democratic side of things. I mean, this ought
to tell you something, if you've got any sense whatsoever.
So I was talking with Senator Tubville earlier this morning
(07:15):
as he's coming in as well, and about him running
for governor. He said he's praying about it now with
his wife and they're going to make a decision here
in the next couple of weeks. And I said, well,
with Coach Saban speaking tonight with Donald Trump, I got
to tell you twenty twenty eight, it looks pretty good.
As President Saban and Governor Tubverville, Boy, what a combo
that would be for the state of Alabama.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Oh, you know, let's let's that's an interesting speculation, I joked,
But you never know. That's right. Look look at what's
happening in twenty twenty six. I know I saw that coming.
So that's right. Look, politics, especially president of politics a
few months is an eternity. You had four years to it.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah, what happened.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Yeah, I would love some point to have it as
somebody from Alabama stepping forward, you know, running on that
national level, whether whether it's president or vice president. I
think we see Alabama rising, or at least on the
conservative side, our reputation rising or influence rising. I'm an
advocate for that. I love Alabama. I love the people
of Alabama. Hey, sky's the limit, yim Low.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, is there any concern have you heard from Republicans
in our state concerned about what's happening with the tariffs?
As the Democrats are trying to stir things up? Obviously,
but there are some Republicans in Congress and the US
Congress that are saying, Hey, you know, I get the tariffs.
I know it's a long term thing we're working on.
We got to take the pain of the short term things.
But your thoughts from Democrats, I mean, from Republicans that
(08:41):
you talk with about what currently is happening with Trump
and the tariffs.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Yeah, I mean, look, there's definitely some who are concerned.
And what I try to explain to them is like,
would you we didn't get here overnight? The imbalance, the
trade differences, the fact that we have sold out our
industries that seen so much of our manufacturing move overseas,
(09:07):
especially to China. Yeah, and the corrections are painful, but
if we don't make their correction now, it's only going
to get worse. And I think that's the critical thing.
People don't realize, like this is this is desperately needed.
It's taking forty to fifty sixty pers to get here,
and it's going to take a couple of years to
get out of it, and it's going to be painful
in the short term, but in the long term, this
(09:28):
puts the American people first. It puts America first, and
it's critical we start that process.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Well, John, I appreciate you being with me this morning.
Enjoy the visit with the President. Stay safe during all
of this. Obviously it's going to be a madhouse in
Tuscalosa the rest of the day and tonight as well.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
And thanks for being with me this morning. We'll do
it again soon.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
John, Always good to be on the show.
