Speaker 1 (00:00):
My name is John Mounts, and we've been talking all
morning about what happened yesterday, the assassination of Charlie Kirk,
who passed away. I mistakenly, I said thirty three thirty one.
Thank you for correcting me. Thirty one years of age.
Very young, although we've lost a lot of great speakers,
a lot of great people in their thirties. It's an
(00:22):
interesting age. We talk about how young and yet how
he was wise beyond his ears. Joining us now to
talk about the latest in the investigation into the assassination
and where we are with possible apprehension of the guy
who did it is our own John Decker. John, Welcome
to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Thanks John, thanks for having me on today. Unfortunately, there
is no individual who is now in custody who was
the perpetrator of this evil act that occurred yesterday. The
FBI initially took into custody one individual described as a
person of interest. That person, after an interrogation, was released,
and the same thing happened with another individual, also described
(01:03):
as a person of interest. After an interrogation, that individual
was released as well. We know the shooting took place,
according to witnesses, about two hundred yards away from where
Charlie Kirk was sitting while he was conducting this event
on the campus of a college in Utah. That's a
long ways away, and it's pretty remarkable that a suspect
(01:26):
has not been identified just yet.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
And it's also possible that there was more than what now.
Of course, one bullet, so one gun, one guy pulling
the trigger, but there could have been other people who
assisted him, maybe in him getting away so quickly there.
It could have been other people who helped him scout
the organ I imagine there's gonna be a lot of
review of cameras because in this day and age, there's
cameras everywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Well, that's right, and we saw that last summer. We
saw that last summer with the assassination attempt on President Trump.
In the aftermath, there were people that did notice someone
on a roof and did indicate that to law enforcement,
and unfortunately law enforcement did not heed what those individuals,
(02:07):
those potential witnesses were telling law enforcement. In the case
of what happened with Charlie Kirk yesterday, this assassination, I'm
certain that we will learn more in the days ahead
about all of the surroundings concerning what happened yesterday, and
so we'll just have to wait and see. Let law
(02:27):
enforcement do its job. And it's the FBI that's taken
the lead on this. It is an assassination. That's the
best way to describe what happened yesterday. And we heard
from the President yesterday as well. This has really touched
the Trump family in a very real way because they
had grown so close to Charlie Kirk over the course
of the past decade.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I would say, John, but for Charlie Kirk, Donald Trump
might not have swept into the White House quite so
easily this last time because he really rallied the young vote,
and that I think was what did a lot for
Donald Trump's popularity getting in this time is that young vote,
and it was people like Charlie Kirk that really got
that going.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Well. He made a difference. He made a difference in
battleground states, his supporters knocking on doors in Arizona and
in Wisconsin, two of those battleground states, two battleground states
the President Trump won handily in twenty twenty four, and
so the President recognized that. That's one of the reasons
why one of the first events that he traveled to
(03:26):
outside of Washington. After being elected, was to a conference
out in Arizona, a Turning Point USA conference where the
President spoke. The President recognized how important Charlie Kirk was
to the conservative movement.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
John Decker, thank you so much for joining US. I
know you'll have the very latest, hopefully by tomorrow. We
have some more answers today, a lot of questions
