Speaker 1 (00:00):
Big meeting today, There's no doubt about that. At the
White House with New York City Mayor elect Zorroon Mandani
AOC was questioned by a reporter at the Capitol yesterday
about this meeting and her expectations here.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
She is, Do you want if I asked you about
Mandonnie's meeting he has a meeting with Trump, putting your
expectations for his meeting.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
I mean, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Obviously the mayor elect is gonna be is preparing.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Or he's an operation. Of course, he indicated that he's
willing to sit down with.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
The buddy and everybody, so we'll see.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
You know, I think we're both in the same vote
and seeing, you know, how the mede goes.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
And he notes that he should hit like specific policy
issues or draw lines of the sand. Maybe I think
he lets aroun me he's been elected to leave New
York City. I trust him at him at your elections.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
He'll do what he is best for the city of
New York.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Were you surprised at the meeting took place in the
first place. Do you think it was a good move
that he requested the meeting?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I mean, again, I think he as a mayor, what's
elected is making decisions to for what you think is
is best for the city. So we'll seeago. I'll be
honest with you, I think it's a pretty good idea
of these who's guys sit down here? Which direction it
goes is anybody's guests, I think. But certainly if President
Trump can handle sitting down with the later in North Korea,

(01:31):
he can handle Mandannie joining us now to talk a
little bit more about this meeting. John Decker, our White
House correspondent, John, good morning. Welcome in, hey, j T.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Thanks for having me. Really appreciate it. Happy Friday to you.
That's the only item on the President's schedule today, this
three pm Eastern time meeting with the mayor elect of
New York City. A lot has been projected in terms
of what may happen, but I think that.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
When you're thinking about it, AHD, they.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Actually have something in common President Trump and Mayor elect
zorn Mondami. What is that they both love New York City.
They have different visions about what New York City should
look like, but they both love that city. And you know,
I think that's one of the reasons why the President
accepted the requests coming from the mayor elect to meet
with the president in the Oval office, and that meeting

(02:15):
happening today.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
You know, both of these guys are very passionate about
where they stand on issues and policies. Both of these
guys can certainly speak, and Donnie's a master in front
of the microphones and cameras, but oh my gosh, I mean,
such different perspectives on what's best to lead a city
social socialism, as most people know with any common sense

(02:39):
and knowledge of history, know that socialism has not worked
anywhere successfully around the globe. So I don't know. My
first question from Donald Trump would be, how are you
going to do this? Explain to me what your socialist
views are and what you think will you know need
to be done to implement them for a lot of them,
as we all know where he stands on grocery stores

(03:01):
and free transportation and law enforcement calming down and sending
counselors out first before we bring the law. I mean,
there's a lot of things that this guy's you know,
not on board with when it comes to Donald Trump,
and the fact that he ran his campaign Mandannie on
I hate Donald Trump, so vote for me. That was
ninety percent of this guy's campaign. So my guess, I

(03:24):
guess as good as yours. But where do you think
this thing is going to go? I hope it gets
you know, civil, and they work through it and they
come back out and go, you know what, we have
agreed on a couple of things and YadA, YadA, YadA.
How do you think this will end up?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Well, I think the way you just described it, I
think they need to find some common ground areas where
they agree. You know, one of the things that I
think sends a strong message is that the current police
commissioner of New York City, someone who is a law
and order police commissioner, JT. She was asked to stay
on and she's accepted that. So that's a good message.

(03:55):
You know, it's not going to be you know, the
kind of rhetoric that we've heard from some on the
progressive side of the Democratic Party as it relates to
how they view law enforcement, how they view poliefe. So
that's a good start, but then they need to find
some other areas of common ground as well. New York
City gets about seven billion dollars with the B seven
billion dollars in funding annually from the federal government. Believe

(04:19):
it or not, that's only about ten percent of their
annual budget. But it's an important part of you having
a good relationship, a partnership with the Trump administration. And
I think that is the reason why the mayor elect
he takes office on January first, the mayor elect of
New York City requested this meeting with President Trump. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I'm glad the meeting's happening too, so we'll just have
to wait and see how it goes. Thank you, John Decker.
I appreciate you. Don't forget now. John Decker available on
