Jon Decker with the latest on President Trump's tariffs

John Decker joins, it's not what you're talking about. What
happened over the weekend as Trump is reiterating his plans
to slap some of these new tariffs on several different countries.
But before we get to that, John, I know you're
a huge tennis fan. By any chance, were you at Wimbledon.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I was not at Wimbledon. No, I was at the
French Open. You know, I have a day job, JT.
So I have to cover the White House. I would
have loved to have been at Wimbledon, but I was
watching it and it was another great match of rematch
of what happened at the French Open, with Janick Center
from Italy taking on Carlos Alcaraz from Spain. Ocaras won
at the French Open, and Sinner got some revenge yesterday

at Wimbledon, winning in four sets. And you know, JT,
they'll have another opportunity to go at it once again
in just a few weeks at the US Open in
New York City, So looking forward to that. I'll be
at the US Open. I can't wait for that.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah. I always love chatting with you about it because
I know you've been and you go and I got
to tell you though, I haven't really followed tennis since,
you know, Federer and rafe All and Nadal and Yokovich
and Serena and yeah, it seems like they're all in
the background now and it's like watching the PGA. It's like,
wait a minute, where's my guys I used to follow?

The turnover is getting quicker and quicker.

It seems to me, Well, you know, you mentioned the
real legends of tennis of recent years, and they are
you know, in some cases they've left the scene or
they're going to be leaving the scene soon in the
case of Novak Djokovic. But you remember when you know,
tiger Woods wasn't you know, doing that well? And the

talk on the golf side was who's going to replace
tiger Woodswell. Now you've got this great crop of golf players,
American golf players, and you can go to the list
of all of them. You know, Jordan's Speeth and you
know so many others that come to mind. I think
the same thing's happening on the tennis side as well.
And Center and Alcarez. It's such a great rivalry.

Are they the top ones right now? Are those two
that were in the finals one and two. They are
one too, ask.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Aaby one versus two and Novak Djokovic made it to
the Semis. But you know, it happens to every professional
athlete they age, and that's what's happening with Djokovic. You know,
he wasn't He's not dominating the tennis tournaments in the
same way that he was, you know, when he was
at the peak of his game. And that being said,

he's still, you know, considered to be one of, if
not the greatest tennis player of all time.

No, it seems too John, every time I look at it.
You know, we get moving, the conveyor belt of life
moving a little quicker. We like these days? All right, quickly, No,
we got to go the latest on Trump of the
tariff situation.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Well, the President announced over the weekend that the deadline
is August the first for the European Union to come
to a trade deal with the US for Mexico to
come to a trade deal with the US. Should no
deal be reached, then the tariff right on goods coming
from Europe would go up to thirty percent. Initially, when
the President announced the tariff right on European goods back

on April the second, it was going to be twenty,
so this is a much higher rate. Europe in response,
has said they will not issue retaliatory terroists. They want
to see if they can reach a trade deal before
August to first and if you look at your calendar,
JT and that's just days away.
