Speaker 1 (00:00):
While Ukraine was meeting with some allies in Geneva to
talk about the peace plan over there. Senator Marco Rubio,
it's probably.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
The most productive day we have had on this issue.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Well, that's pretty good news. Joining us now and it's
our correspondent on this, Jonathan Savage from London. Jonathan, good morning, welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
In, Hello, good morning, Jitty, So good news Ruby.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
I thought it went in the right direction. Is that
pretty much the general consensus with everybody attending.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah. In fact, there was a joint statement put out
by the US and Ukraine which tells you that they
are sort of coming together on the same page somewhat.
It said both sides degree consultations were highly productive, showed
meaningful progress towards aligning positions, the Ukrainian delegation saying that
(00:43):
the reaffirming their gratitude towards the United States and President
Trump for their tireless efforts aimed at ending the war.
We don't have a deal yet. What we had over
the weekend was I think some fairly tough negotiating on
that starting point, that twenty eight point plan which was
leaked last week. It was seen at the time as
being rewarding Russia for its invasion being skewed too much
(01:06):
in favor of Russia. There was some horror in European circles,
but I think the Ukrainians now feel that their voices
are being heard.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
So are we close to you know, calling you a ceasefire?
And because every time we get into this discussion, Russia says, yeah,
we'll meet you at the table. Hold on, justament, we're
launching another missile first, Okay, now let's talk. You know
it's coexisting missile launches in peace talks.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, I mean, who knows how closely truly are as
these talks were going on, there was an assault on
Kharkav in eastern Ukraine and four people were killed. So
you know, Russia is not holding back and they're not
waiting and seeing what happens. Although President Trump has posted
this morning on social media, he asked, is it really
possible that big progress is being made in peace talks
(01:49):
between Russia and Ukraine? He says, something good may just
be happening. So the talks in Geneva, Switzerland have concluded.
They're over there, but it's expected that more talks will
take place elsewhere where over the coming days.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
All Right, very good Jonathan Savage in London, our Fox correspondent,
Thank you, Jonathan,
