Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jonathan Savage, our Fox correspondent in London. Jonathan, always good
to catch up with you. Good morning and welcome in buddy.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
A lot, Good morning, next talk to you too.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
You know, one of the cool things about our job,
you know, we come across crazy world stories that you know,
a lot of them are not really good, and you know,
I like to, you know, get away from the hardball
news sometimes. But there's also fascinating stories. And I'm still
just as fascinated as can be with the Louver story.
How these people broke in here in broad daylight, stole
the Crown jewels. Now they got these guys, and you know,

(00:30):
I think they got everything back except for one piece
that was broken or something. So first of all, I
do want to get up to date on if you
have the information for us on where we are with
the criminals that were involved in this. Are they all
in custody awaiting trial and are they you know, are
are we going to you know, get them and put
them in prison?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Well, four people have been charged, they're accused of being
involved in the rate. Three other people who were arrested
were released without charge. Maybe there's at least one other
person on the run and I hate to contradict you,
but the treasures have not been recovered.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Oh there was one item, one item.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
A crown, which the thieves dropped on their way out.
Everything else is still out there somewhere, perhaps melted down,
broken down, sold them black markets or diamond markets, and
many people think there's no chance of getting this one
hundred million dollars are.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Worth resolute back. So that's where we are.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Four people have been charged, but the investigation is continuing.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I appreciate the correction there. I misspoken. I thought, you know,
that was the crown, the only thing that they've gotten back.
The rest of it. You're right. The fact that it's
still gone could mean it's gone forever, like melted down.
Are these four people do you know if they're cooperating
talking about Okay, here's what we did with them, here's
what happened, or is that still kind of behind the
investigation closed doors.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
They did see that at least one person had admitted
partial involvement. We're not getting too many details about what
they're saying exactly. You know, it certainly seems that the
police are fairly confident that they've got people who were
involved in this. It's not either, like they're an Ocean's
eleven set of of mega thiefs.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Their people from the outskirts of Paris.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Some of them had some sort of lower level theft
convictions involvement in the final from the Deep Underworld. It
seems to be a gang that was fairly opportunistic.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, these guys were not as professional as you know
Brad Pitt and you know George Clooney. No, they weren't
as slick, that's for sure. Now, it's so crazy. You
would think with that amount of jewel in the building
and the Crown Jewels being that that they would have
been maxed out on security alarms, sensors, you know, noise

(02:51):
sensors and radar and everything you could possibly put to
surround something of all things. You know this, I've seen
more secure homes with an add system than they had.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, you see, they weren't particularly sophisticated thieves. They didn't
need to be. They came in up a sort of
cherry picker, a mechanized ladder in the back of a
truck onto a balcony. Turned out that this balcony was
not in the view of any of the museum cameras
and what they announced yesterday is.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
They're going to install one hundred new cameras on the outside.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Of building by the end of next year, along with
other new security measures. One other thing they told us
yesterday some new details about the breach, was that the
director of the museum said it was a method that
hadn't been imagined.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
At all all.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
The security had been designed to sort of counter what
the visitors would be an attack from inside the museum
with weapons, not one from the outside with cutting material
meant to go through concrete. So yeah, their security was
not foreseeing this. And they are going to be advertising
a new security coordinator position. Who's that job has been

(04:00):
posted for a month, so they're hoping to appoint that
person soon.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
All right, So they are setting up some new cameras
in the meantime in this anti intrusion system. But yeah,
they still are looking for the best guy to handle
it from now on moving forward. They haven't hired this person.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yet, no, no appointment has been announced. One other thing
I think that's interesting they're going to do is they're
going to put a police station on the Louver States
and Advanced Legalization movie in there calls it, so that
will increase the police presence and the police the professionalism
of the infrastructure involved in the police operation there. You know,

(04:34):
it would be pretty brazen for somebody else to try
and attack the Louver so soon after this, but there
the museum clearly doesn't want to be quite so exposed
should that happen again.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
All right, Jonathan Savage in London, Thank you, buddy for
the update. I appreciate that, no doubt an eye opener
for other people that are, you know, having security systems
that are probably not up to part to get it
going before it's you know, you're the next victim.
