Speaker 1 (00:00):
A lot of news happening in our cycle these days.
(00:02):
We've got the big beautiful bill. They're working on the
Brian Coburger case. They've pled a deal now on this
where he won't face the death penalty. And what's happening
with the situation with Iran? The latest on this and
where we are any talks happening right now? Jonathan Savage,
our Fox correspondent in London this morning, Good.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Morning, Hello, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
So it seems the talks have kind of slowed down
and off a little bit now, and I saw some
satellite imageries had been reported that they are seeing the
Iranians going back to where we bunker bomb busted them
and starting to kind of clean up and maybe start
rebuilding a little bit. Where are we at all this.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
The Iranians have shown no sign that they are giving
up on their nuclear ambitions. President Trump last week said
that he expected there to be talks between the US
and around this week, but within a few days it
became clear that those talks were unlikely to happen. And
know from the Iranian perspective exactly why. Iran's deputy foreign
(01:05):
minister says that before talks resume, the United States must
rule out any further strike. They say, it's a very
important question. They don't want there to be further attacks
while there are ongoing negotiations. The Deputy Foreign Minister also
said that if these talks happen, Iran would insist on
being able to enrich uranium for what it says are
(01:28):
peaceful purposes. So, in short, despite everything that's happened, Iran's
position appears to be unchanged, at least as far as
its ambitions are concerned.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Well, so what's going on with the Iranian threats? Now?
We keep hearing that the proxies and call for jihad
and all this push here in the United States that
there may be some activity that we can all start
to look forward to thanks to what took place with
bombing and the I mean President Trump put it out
there if you touch anybody that has anything to deal
(02:00):
with the United States, there's going to be monster retaliation
from US on this. So has that calmed down?
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, there's not be much talk of that recently. We
know that there were some arrests last week. We don't
necessarily know exactly how far in advance any kind of
plan was, but I don't think you can underestimate the
work that is done constantly by the intelligence service of Iran.
Just today, we're hearing here in Europe of a man
(02:28):
being arrested in Denmark. Prosecutors in Germany say that he
was acting on behalf of Iran. He was targeting specific
Jewish people and locations linked to the Jewish religion. Prosecutors
say he spied on three properties and that may have
been in preparation for a terrorist attack. So there are
(02:48):
authorities all over the world who are on alert.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Well, this free you know, ceasefire is a bit fragile
right now between Israel and Iran. And as all this
is going on, Trump has did not buying some reports
that came out yesterday that he's weighing a three or
thirty billion dollar deal rather with Iran that would allow
for development of civilian nuclear facilities. President Trump says that's
(03:12):
not happening. So what are you hearing on that end.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, these reports came out last week and they were
very quickly shot down by President Donald Trump on truth
social said he was not doing any deal. He was
not going to be sending them anything as part of
a future civilian nuclear program from Iran, saying it's not
even being discussed. He's came from CNN and NBC used
(03:39):
towards the end of last week. There is there will,
of course, as you're saying, probably will be talked at
some point, and Iran probably will say that they want
some sort of nuclear program as part of that. I
think the question is going to be will Iran be
allowed to enrich nuclear material itself, or will it perhaps
(04:00):
be allowed to mine the uranium, spend it to another
country and then get it back enriched to a level
that can only be used for domestic energy production purposes
and not for Mickey and the player weather. I think
that is something that could be discussed in the future.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
And meanwhile, there's an investigation on about what the leaks
are all about and where they came from in this
process here inside the United States.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yes, the leaks regarding that early Pentagon reports and the
details of which were leaked to various news media, much
to the fury of President Trump and especially Defense Secretary
Repeat Hexa, because of course that is his department there
at the Pentagon, and he the so he announced that
his view this was a leak which was politically motivated,
(04:44):
and the leak was carried out in order to damage
the current White House administration. So we don't know any
more than that, other than they are trying to get
to the bottom of this.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
All right, very good. Jonathan Savage, Ship Fox correspondent in London.
Thank you, Jonathan,
