Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jonathan Savage, our Fox correspondent in London, is joining us now.
As in the background, we are listening to what took
place over the weekend at London's Heathrow Airport as sirens
are wailing. There was an attack there by a number
of people, three or four different people, trying to rob
somebody I guess of a suitcase and they were using
(00:20):
pepper spray on this person, but it affected a lot
of other people here. Now there they go, they're chasing
them after and Jonathan, good morning, welcome in, Thanks so
much for being with me.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hi there, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
So an awful situation in an airport, you see something
like that with cops everywhere. They've got the AR fifteenth
polled and pepper spray's been all over the place. Understandably,
this is a scary situation. But you know, when you're
at an airport, you're thinking, oh, oh, terrorism. I guess
they've ruled that out.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, they say not terrorism. They believe it's an isolated incident,
although they haven't told us whether they believe this was
a specifically targeted offense or whether it was an opportunist
crime for people they understand were involved in this attack.
One person has been arrested, a thirty one year old man,
and yes, a dramatic scenes, though a large police presence
(01:10):
as you would expect for any significant incident at airport.
There were firefighters on hand as well, and twenty one
people were treated for injuries as a result of this
pepper spray being used. Five taken to the hospital. The
youngest victim was a three year old girl. So I
think many people will consider this to be quite a
callous crime. It's not thought that anyone injured is in
(01:34):
a life threatening or has a life changing condition. But
it was all dealt with fairly quickly. Within about three
hours of this event happening, the multi story parking lot
had reopened. Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
That's incredible. I'm so glad nobody was seriously injured here.
But when you talk about pepper spray in a three
year old, I mean that could be ugly, very ugly.
So they got one guy, what they three others still
looking for? Is that the deal?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, that's what we think three other people they are
searching for at the moment. You know the response that
you saw with the police officers with their firearms. An
airport is one of the few places in the United Kingdom,
where you will routinely see an armed police officer. Officers
are not routinely armed in the UK. So the fact
(02:20):
that it happened there is partly why there was such
an availability of police officers within seconds. Really of the
mal arted to it.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
All right, very good, all right. Let's also talk about
what's happening with Russia and Ukraine. My gosh, everybody's trying
to work on a peace deal and it doesn't seem
Putin's interested in anything in that arena. What's his latest
warning to Ukraine, because it's not good.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah. After last week saying that he disagreed with parts
of the US proposed peace plan, he has been speaking
to Indian media because he went on a visit to
India and he said that the Ukrainian troops must leave
the eastern don Bass region or Russia will make it
by force liberate. Is Vladimir Putin's words. So that is
(03:04):
just telling you that he has no interest in compromising
over how to end the war in Ukraine. He wants
Ukrainian forces to leave parts of the country that Russia
hasn't even conquered or seized yet. What the Ukrainians have
suggested they may be willing to do, according to reports,
is to freeze the front lines where they are, to
vow not to take those territories back by force, but
(03:27):
to negotiate their return over time. Vladimir Putin just says
he wants them all.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Well, apparently our president's now real happy with Zelensky. As
he was on his way to the Kennedy Center honors,
he was stopped by reporters and asked about this sole situation.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
A little bit disappointed that President Zelensky hasn't yet read
the proposal that was as of a few hours ago.
His people love it, but he has Russia's fine with it.
Russia's you know, Russia. Russia, I guess, would rather have
the whole country when you think of it. But Russia is,
I believe, fine with it. But I'm not sure that
(04:04):
Zelinsky is fine with it. His people love it, but
he hasn't read it.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, there you go. So I don't think we're making
any headway in this situation whatsoever. No shocker
