Speaker 1 (00:00):
Just a horrible situation over the weekend, as two women
had been killed in this shooting that took place at
this church in Kentucky. It went down at about I think,
what was it eleven thirty or eleven forty five yesterday morning,
and just an awful situation here. At a press conference yesterday,
(00:23):
the Kentucky Police Chief there, Lawrence Weather's, detailing the shooting
that did take place there around the.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Eleve a thirty six am, letting them police officers were
dispatched for a shooting involving the Kentucky State trooper all
Terminal Drive. The trooper had pulled over a vehicle on
Terminal Drive after receiving a license plate reaver alert in
the area of for Sales Road. The trooper was shot
and suspect fled.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yeah, and then I guess he carjacked a vehicle as well. Listen.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
A short time later, the suspect carjacked a vehicle in
the thirty seven hundred block of Della with Drives before
fleeing the area. No injuries were reported during that cars act.
With the assistants of the department's Harrisal Board Unit and
Real Time Intelligence Center, officers were able to track the
(01:13):
vehicle to the Disman Road Baptist Church and the five
or fifty eight hundred block of Old Bishman Road.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
A man, there's still so many questions that need to
be answered in this whole thing. The chief they're also
saying the suspect opened fire on these churchgoers before they,
you know, being arrested.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
The suspect fired his weapons and individuals on church property.
Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a
connection to the individuals at the church. Four individuals were
shot on church property. Two female victims were pronounced and
ceased at the scene. The other two that those both male,
(01:55):
were transported to a local hospital.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Now one woman that died with seventy two the other
woman was thirty two years old. And then the police
finally exchanged shots with this guy, fatally wounded the attacker. There.
Just a devastating scene. Many inside were related, lifelong friends
and still investigating as to who this person was, why
(02:19):
this happened, and what went down. Just just an awful
situation there, horrible thing. Well, Mackenzie, as I was on
vacation last week. Before I had left, we were all
off on Friday, fourth of July and then the floods
hit in Texas and it all went down, and I've
(02:39):
horrifically just moved by how awful it was with that
church with the kids, and how many people lost their
lives and all this, and one hundred and thirty two
people you know, have been killed by these floods since
still I fourth, and more than one hundred and seventy
still missing. It's devastating, horrible situation here. And apparently there
(03:01):
had been a previous incident with this camp and a flood,
you know, years ago.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Years ago, and that's why I'm confused why they kept
it open. I think that at that time, I say
only ten, but I think it was only ten people
that had passed away when it happened last time. But
you would think that even with that that they would have,
you know, taken better precautions because there I saw a
photo yesterday of a guardrail and it was it looked
like whenever you ring out a rag that's soaking wet.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Just twisted and burnt and turned over.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Oh yeah, And that tells you how powerful those floods were.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Well, the river jumped twenty six feet in about forty
five minutes. That's pretty darn fast.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Oh yeah, you've got to look up the time lapses
and see how fast the water rose about the bridge
and everything.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Saw a lot of those videos, a lot of obviously
homes swept away, roads, cabins that camped there. It's just awful.
Twenty seven campers and counselors died in all of this.
Just a horrible situation. State local leaders in mid warning
systems failed in several spots. Kirk County has no sirens.
(04:02):
Past grant requests for gages were denied, and many cell
phones never buzzed. And it just came so fast that
they couldn't, you know, plan to get out of there.
It's not like, you know, they had a hurricane warning,
you know, two days before. Hey there's big storms coming.
Remember we're on a flood plane here. We were expecting
major rain here. This just came out of left field
(04:22):
and it was horrible. Oh, it's just horrible.
