Speaker 1 (00:00):
Phones are open two O five four three nine nine
three seven two two O five four three nine nine
three seven two. Don's got us on a Birmingham this morning. Don,
Good morning. What's on your mind doing?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
JT? Hey, you know I heard about these businesses talking
about complaining that they're losing these illegal aliens as workers.
My question is, there's laws that you have to do
and paperwork you have to fill out and forms you
have to have you get hired. So they knowingly hired
an illegal alien, putting an American out of work to
do this, they should be punished for this. They should
be the law should be. You know, whatever the the
(00:32):
fines are, there's got to be. We're not talking about those.
And people need to know what does are so other
businesses stop hiring them. That's the other way they're going
to self deport is there's no work, they'll leave.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
One hundred percent. I agree with you. The legislators need
to get together on that. And yeah, I mean there
are people here that have been here for twenty thirty
years and just getting past and nobody just yeah, let's
not just bring it up, don't talk about it, you know, uh,
you know, and there's probably been some that have cut
my grass. But here's the deal. I agree with you
that if we put that law into play and it
(01:03):
becomes a finable offense or whatever, and it costs you money,
you gotta, you know, incentivize people to change. When it
comes to the money. The dollar seems to move people
faster than anything, whether you're trying to make it or
you're going to be fined by doing something you shouldn't
if you're going to start dealing with my money situation, Okay,
you got my attention. What so, Yeah, either get your
(01:27):
people that you're hiring. You know, I don't know what
you put in the legislation, but I agree with you
that you are subject to a serious fine if you are,
you know, caught hiring and you know, harboring illegals you know,
in your business, and you're right, over time, that would
change the thing. It's not going to change overnight by
doing that. But I kind of agree with you don
(01:48):
in that. I was just talking more about what do
you do right now? What do you do with ten
to fifteen million in the illegals and let's say you
know eighty percent of those are not criminals or they're criminals.
To begin with PK. They broke the law and came illegally,
and you haven't done anything to become a US citizen.
But I'm talking about committing crimes since they've been here
that are working in the industries and the farms and
the service industries. What do you do with those types
(02:11):
of people right now?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, I don't know about that. I mean, I think
what they're doing having the raids, and I know people
are not happy with some of the places are doing
the raids, but the more they do them, the more
these people are going to think about self deporting if
they're not not legal. And I would think if I
was an employer, I would take twice about hiring them
knowing it was going to hurt my business potentially. And
I've got to think there's got to be fines on
(02:33):
the books right now. I mean, there's too much that
we I mean, as an employer, we have to go
through all kinds of steps through all the different verifications
for green cards and citizenship. So there's something on the
books now. The thing is that needs to be publicized
in some of these stories that are coming out, you know,
not just so hurting my business, but I got fined
and maybe nobody else ought to think about doing this too.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
You know, if you've got a business and you're a
small business and by the way, ninety five percent of
you know business in Alabama, our small businesses meaning employees
less than five hundred on staff. If you're running a
small business, all of a sudden there's a ten thousand
dollars fine because you've been caught hiring and keeping an
illegal and knowing. So then yeah, that would change my
(03:16):
perspective on it. You're one hundred percent right there, so
good point, and thank you for listening. Don I appreciate you.
Thanks
