Speaker 1 (00:00):
Alabama's Morning News. I'm JT joining us now Kennon Spiwick,
who is a highly regarded executive entrepreneur, to talk about
what's going on with Donald Trump. And I'm trying to
write the ship here after a disastrous four years with
Joe Biden. And well, I'll tell you, Ken, and when
you look around the globe where we were and where
Donald Trump wants to take us when it comes to
trade and it comes to the tariffs and the global situation.

(00:23):
I mean, the United States has pretty been much taken
advantage of for years and years and years, and he's like, enough,
we're the United States. We don't need to do this.
Good morning. Welcome in your thoughts on the president's maneuvering
right now.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Good morning. You know, I hate to say this. I
have a bit of a mixed mind. And here's why
no president could be more right than Donald Trump is
on how we've been taking advantage of by other countries.
There has been Donald Trumptn's sort of trade war liberation day,
our allies put aside. China started a trade war years

(01:02):
and years ago, and it's become a part of their
identity to treat the United States unfairly. It's not about
their tariff rates. They really aren't a lot of tariffs
around the world. It's about made in filling the country rules.
It's about not allowing American professionals to apply their trade

(01:22):
in their country. It's about barring our agriculture off of
make believe rules that American agriculture isn't consistent with our values.
It's Europe trying to impose their woke dei ideology on
US supply chains, and it's terrible and it's got to stop.

(01:44):
And Donald Trump intends to stop them.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
All right, Well, let's ask you this. I tend to
agree with you on that that we have been a little,
you know, step child and taking smacks to the face
and we just go, thank you, sir. May I have
another why, as the United States is globally powerful of
a nation, we are tolerated this for so long.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
That's why we've tolerated it. The United States, whether Democrat
or Republican, administration has been run by people who believe
in this globalist liberal elite, and the US and Europe
have been the leaders. The US has been the military leader,
and it has been the bank. I don't mean the

(02:27):
bank as in lender, I mean the bank, as in
giving away our resources to the rest of the world
to support this global elite. You know, people don't realize
who live in America how strong America really is from
an economic point of view. And despite all these attacks
on America, there is no country remotely as powerful as

(02:51):
the US from an economic perspective. China may have a
GDP or gross domestic product that rivals ours five times
are population, Europe on a per person basis isn't remotely close.
We think Europe is equal to the US. Europe on
a per person basis is a little better than half

(03:13):
the US.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Now, you're right about this old globalist thing, and Obama
was huge into it, and abiding was just an Obama
junior wanted to continue this. What happened to the good
old American spirit of America. First, God bless the USA,
and let's be the strong nation, I mean a strong
nation economically and also through military. Is a nation of respect,
and we can operate and help others a lot better

(03:36):
than we can be. And I remember Obama said, well,
let's just hug our terrorist friends and maybe they'll understand
us and stop beating us up. Yeah, that works.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Real.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Well, so with that said, now in the move seems
so drastic now that Donald Trump's righting the ship and
basically common sense is brought back to the table and
normalcy is trying to be re established for this country.
And yet everybody out there on the left is going, oh,
so you don't want to give our money away and
help those poor people that are starving around the globe.

(04:04):
Quit spinning it into the complete disastrous extreme side of
the things here and focus on how we can actually
help people like that if we have a stronger position.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Okay, So here's where I said, I'm a little bit
of mixed mind. I am in almost everything, completely on
board the Trump agenda. It's been my agenda for years
and years. I looked at Trump's agenda and just say,
you see, you're finally doing what I want. Here's where
I'm a little bit on the other mind of it.
His approach to tariffs, putting this ten percent baseline tariff

(04:40):
and what he called reciprocal tariffs all around the world
wasn't a good idea. Don't go after everyone at the
exact same moment. Don't put ten percent tariffs on some
of our friends who really weren't abusing us. Almost everyone
abuses us, not everyone, And the way those tarrifs were computed,
it's why he had to retreat the world's stock markets

(05:01):
and bond markets and trading markets really were royal by
doing that. And if he focused on the worst defenders China,
European Union, Canada, there are some others, then he doesn't
have to take on everywhere at the same time. Then
he can win and move on to the next And
by the time he wins it a couple of these
trading blocks, the rest are going to fall into place,

(05:23):
or if not, put tariffs on them, enact other measures
against them, and by the way, force them to pay
their fair share of defense or withdraw the American defense
of the n Even Canada, our good friend Canada, which
is a member of NATO, supposed to have a two
percent target for defense two percent of GDP. They're at
one point three seven percent. Yeah, these countries are taking

(05:46):
advantage of us. But I wish Trump had done it
in a more orderly fashion. I also wish he had
given ultimatums first and attack second.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Look, Canon, I understand what you're saying. You know, the
great thing I love about Trump is he's a bullet
in a china shop. The worst thing I hate about
him is he's a bull in a china shop. All right,
So I get what you're saying, but you know what,
and coming right out for Easter weekend. You know, when
Jesus went in and tipped the tables over, he didn't

(06:17):
gently take the plates off and set them over here
and then want to move some of the things over
here off of this table. He ripped the tables to
shreds and turned them over. Donald Trump came into Washington
and said, this city, in this government is not going
to operate the way it used to. Hence doge, hence
the situation with the tariffs. I think this is a
tossing of the tables, if you will, by Donald Trump

(06:39):
to grab the countries around the globes attention. And it's
all about a chess move here. He's not launching missiles.
He's tipping tables and grabbing their attention. So everybody is now, look,
oh my gosh, we got to pay attention. And what's
he doing. And he's brought everybody to the table. You're right, now,
let's start the negotiations and at the end of the day.

(06:59):
It's not going to be as bad as this thing
it was when it first happened.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
All right, everything you just said is right. I don't
say that just because you're the host. I say that
because you're right nonetheless. And maybe this is the wimp
traditional conservative side of me. I wish he'd given out ultimatums.
I wish he'd given a few months then, particularly with China,

(07:23):
the EU and Canada, those are large trading blocks, and
then attacked and then gone another six months with other
countries and destabilized rather than unified the other countries against us.
I'm not opposed to attacking them economically because I'm opposed
to attacking them economically. I'm opposed to taking on a

(07:47):
one hundred and ninety country front as opposed to taking
on two or three large blocks at a time.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, yeah, four two Yeah, great conversation, kenn I, we'll
have you back in uh yeah, but you got it, man.
His edges have been sanded down a little bit compared
to the first turn.
