Speaker 1 (00:00):
Alabama's Morning News. I'm JT. Kevin Flannagan joins us not
to take a look at some of the movies opening
up this weekend for us. Kevin, good morning. Let's start
with Ellen McKay. What's this all about? Yeah, this is
this is kind of a fun one. This is James
brook movie, and it's like a lot of what he does.
It's a drama with some good humor, good comedy in there.

(00:21):
It's PG thirteen films, so it's doable. It's a good
date movie. This stars Emma McKay is Ellen McKay, who
is a lieutenant governor in an unnamed state, a liberal
state out there somewhere, and the governor ends up getting
appointed to the Obama cabinet back in two thousand and eight,
so she gets elevated from lieutenant governor to governor in
office that he so kindly says, she would have never

(00:43):
gotten any other way, So good luck being governor. So
she's trying to figure out how to do that. Got
some funny family drama. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis as
her aunt, very busy body of an aunt, and it's
also got Woody Harrelson in there as her dad. And
then Albert Brooks plays the governor that's in this movie.
So some good characters, some good personalities. It's fun, it'll

(01:04):
make you laugh. It's not very serious, so it's it's
probably gonna do decent this weekend. All right, how about
this one? Eastern Western? How about it? Yeah, if you
like a real life Western, this one will work for you.
This is about an immigrant just into the country who
decides to go west, takes his son and is his granddaughter,
who's a cute little thing, and they're taking on the

(01:26):
brutal West. So it's it's that kind of a story.
It's it's really it's a bit slow, like a lot
of the old timey westerns, and it's really just giving
you a look at what's happening out west. You're running
this some Native Americans, you you know, you kind of
see what the struggles are for those who are trying
to move west, young man. And that's about it. It's
not a great movie. Maybe win an award because it's

(01:47):
not a great movie. We'll see, you know, sometimes you're right,
not great movies win all kinds of artistic awards. So
all right, Silent Night, Deadly Night. I'm assuming we don't
take the kids to this one. You don't take your
son off of this one. This is a flasher movie.
It's the seventh in a row. Sure not, it is,
And they haven't done this one. This is a movie,

(02:07):
by the way, this came out. The first one came
out in nineteen eighty four. It was called Silent Night,
Deadly Night, and it was the same kind of film,
same idea. You got this kid who's trying to get
revenge on people, but he's just nuts, and he goes
after him in Santa suits and then acts. And it
got pulled from the theaters in eighty four. So we
come a long way. Now we can watch this movie

(02:28):
and enjoy it. But it's the third remake of this
film in a series of seven films of the same style,
which is Santa Santa suit and an axe going around
chopping people up. This is a great movie to miss
this holiday season. I'm glad we've talked about it all right.
Have you got any streamers that might be new this week?
There is a fairly new one. It's called The Abandons.
I like this one because it's it also is kind

(02:50):
of a Western theme, but it shows a corrupt power
family in an old Western town, and then it shows
a bunch of folks who just traveled out there to
stake out some land and dig for silver. And it's
a nice drama, some good action, and it's just a
good look at the old West if you like to
just watch some families do their things. So hey, that's

(03:12):
what's happening on TV and at the movies. So there's
something for everybody this weekend. Go have fun.
