Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Alabama's Morning News. I'm John Mounts filling
in for JT. And as we go into the weekend,
we want to give you something to take your mind
off the woes of the world. And so there's a
couple great things, well maybe one great thing in the
box office. Joining us now is Kevin Flanagan. Kevin, Welcome
to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yeah, it's great to be with you this morning, John.
And there's actually more than one in the box office,
but one new one. Right. We still got Durassic World
out there that folks can go catch from last week
and a couple others, but you're right, there's only there's
only one opening this weekend, and it still may give
you a few woes because it's the new Superman movie.
And I hate to say it, but you know, James
(00:36):
Gunn always likes to make things a little political when
he can, probably coming from a different angle than at
least JT and I usually do. Probably you two, John,
but it's still Superman. It's going back to the early
days of the Superman, but in this one we find
Superman kind of kind of takes a turn to becoming
a bad guy. They're starting to talk about maybe he's
an illegal immigrant, maybe he ought to be sent home.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Maybe you turned this into I think it turned this
into a Donald Trump thing, that Ice is going to
attack Superman.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
You know, there's an effort there a little bit. But
here's over the years, I think you and I both
we've all learned you just block some of that out
and you just try to figure out how to enjoy
it for what it is. There's some really fun stuff.
Lewis Lane, you know, is a new Lewis in this
movie that she's still the journalist and probably goes a
little new Today media. But there's a flying dog. He
gets his dog back. We hadn't seen his dog in
a long time, so that's kind of fun. And he's
(01:27):
still Superman. He's still chasing truth and justice and you
know now what they call the Human way versus the
American Way. But that's all right. He's a big Superman.
He can't cover it all, but it is Superman. It's
the original story, and they're kind of taking us back
to what we saw back in the sixties and seventies.
So there's some fun there. You just kind of got
to overcome a little bit of the political junk.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Will Lex Luthor make his appearance again.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Oh yes he will. He is the nemesis and there's
a few other nemeses in this as well, so you'll
get to see a lot of the bad guys.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Okay, well, you know I'm up for a thing good
like this. Now there's another one out that's not quite
as uplifting and positive. Skill House. I understand this is
a horror movie.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
It is a matter of fact. You can almost drop
theF off of that name and call it kill House.
So they get they fifty Cent. By the way, fifty
cent sued this group to release this movie. He's one
of the producers. But apparently they never paid their bills
and they didn't follow through on their contract with him.
But the court just ruled it's okay, go ahead and
show it. So it was made in twenty two and
now we get to watch these ten influencers. Two of
(02:29):
them are well known influencers today in reality. But you
got ten influencers that are brought into a house. This
story's actually been done before twice, but you got the
influencers are trapped inside. Now fifty Cent is telling them
that if you don't do one of these skills, if
you try to get out of this house. If you
call for help or if you have the least likes
on your account at a certain time, you will be killed.
(02:50):
So one by one they start to drop off that way.
Then the things, the challenges they do to get more
viewers going to get some of them killed. So yeah,
just a lot of killing, pretty gory. If you are
into this kind of movie, you will find it. There's
some moments that are pretty entertaining humorously, but it does
spoof that whole social media influencer thing to where you're
(03:11):
kind of going the oh, those people are pretty stupid.
But anyway, that's one that's coming out of Kill House.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
And one more if you don't want to go to
the movie theaters, you want to sit at home, you
want to do some streaming ballad? What's ballad?
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, So, like if you like the show Bosh, if
you like Lincoln Lawyer, then you will most likely like Ballard.
She's out of the same genre. She's actually brought to
us by the same writer, and it's a continuation. You'll
see Harry Boss show up in this one. Maggie Q
plays La Police detective Renee Ballard, and those who read
the books are very familiar with Renee. She and Bosh
(03:42):
have teamed up a lot on some of the things.
So she's homicide. She heads up the homicide department. She's
gonna find some killers out there, and week after week
you can have a new killer and she's gonna track
them down. Probably I would be my guest. Anyway, Hey,
there's something for everybody at the movies or on TV,
so enjoy something this weekend.
