Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Alabama's morning news. Is John Mounts kicking
your weekend off for Labor Day. And usually Labor Day
has great movies, wonderful entertainment, but I understand this weekend
maybe now not so much. Kevin Flanning and joins us. Kevin,
welcome to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hey, great to be here with you this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
And so this first movie, we're going to talk about
the Roses. It's based on kind of an old trope, right.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
And it's based on the old the War of the Roses.
This is kind of a remake that was that was
the couple back. I don't know, I think that was
back in the eighties or nineties they made that movie.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
And what do he seems to say?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
We hate each other, especially sometimes I do hate you
sporadic hatred. This is an updated version. And basically what
you got is a couple who's the perfect couple. She's
a chef, he's an architect. Life couldn't be better, lots
of money, they're envied by everybody. But it turns out
he loses his job, hides it, and then the marriage
begins to kind of fall apart. The guy, you know,
(00:53):
can't really handle the fact that he's not the bread
winner and all that kind of stuff. It is a
it is a dark comedy and it is It is
definitely rated our deserves, it's our rating. But it is funny.
I got to give you that. Ben Benedict comerback plays
the husband and he is great in this one. So
if you're looking for a love romance movie that went south,
(01:17):
this may be your movie. This weekend, things are getting
a little out of hand.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Well you think, okay, what about if you've been caught stealing?
It is a new movie, cost Stealing. What's that about?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah? So cost Stealing is based on a book. It's
actually based on a trilogy. This is the first of
the three. It's about a baseball player who obviously didn't
playing baseball anymore, and he's don't have a whole lot
of money. You know those guys who spend a lot
of time in the minor leagues and never really get anywhere,
don't bring much home with him. Well, this is him.
And he's got a buddy who asked him to watch
his cat, of all things, ends up watching his cat.
(01:50):
Turns out while he's gone and go over checking on
the cat. Some guys show up wanting something that was
stolen from them. He has no idea what it was,
but he gets caught in the middle of this whole
theft and there's about six different groups that are out
to get the guy, and all of a sudden, they
think he's the one. So it's pretty funny, also a
dark comedy at best. It's got a little bit of
(02:10):
action to it as well, so some may call it
a crime thriller, but yeah, this one will make you laugh.
It will also make you hurt. There's a lot of
punches and a lot of shots, and a lot of
baseball bats swung ahead. It's definitely a violent film.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Just scary monson, I don't know anything. So if you're
into action and violence, caught Stealing might be. I mean
it sounds about like what would happen if you were
caught stealing? What about this next one is run? Who
are we running from?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah? Exactly? This is You know what's funny about this
movie is as I've watched and I've tried to figure
out some things about it, one of the things that
became very obvious is they weren't really creative coming up
with the title. I think somebody in the room said Hey,
let's just find a really good line in the movie.
At one point the girl screams run, So let's call
it that. So they do. But this is a story
of a group of girls go off together kind of
(02:59):
a I think it's bridesmaids getting together prior to the wedding,
sort of the deal. And they're out in a remote
place when all of a sudden, aliens decide to attest
You are hearing this message, we are alerding you that
we now know these metallic shifts are aliens. You get aliens,
you get back in the woods, and the aliens love
(03:19):
to apparently hunt humans. So this is a movie about
a bunch of bridesmaids trying to protect themselves from invading
aliens and all the excitement that comes with that. They
get guns and they shoot the little metal creatures and
they run, they and at some point in the movie
they're gonna scream run really loud. Oh Okay, I see
what it's about. But anyway, another one that probably will
(03:43):
die in obscurity before very many weeks go by.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Okay, and one more seeds.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, and this one shows some promise. This was a
favorite at some of the award shows out there. But
this is a twenty twenty four Canadian film that's just
now releasing in the Birmingham area, and it's about a
girl who just gets her first job as a social
media influencer and uh, she gets called back home to
her native American community to watch the farm while the
(04:10):
family's gone. And it turns out there's some people they
apparently the seeds that they grow their crop with have
been in there in their culture and their community for many,
many generations, and it's some outside folks that want the seeds,
so they're going in to steal the seeds. You's got
to protect them. Do you know where they keep their seeds?
And you get you just get the kind of back
and forth. There's a lot of shooting and a lot
(04:32):
of a lot of this is what we did to
our enemies back in the day with knives and stuff
going on.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Do you know what my people did do our enemies
during wartime?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Allow me to demonstrates they're very violent movies. So they're
all kind of violent, comedy, dark. Yeah, there's anybody who
survived kind of films this weekend. So a lot of
good football happened this weekend. That may be that may
be preferable some folks. And there's some great stuff streaming.
So something for everybody out there though, to watch someone
your week kids.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Pretty tart bedtime stories, isn't it, Kevin? Nothing for the kids?
Or is there still some stuff in the theater for
the kids that are just still there? Oh?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, there's still some things if you want to, if
you want to take your kids to the theaters, there's stuff
that that they may enjoy it. And you get the
K Pop movie sitting in the top area. I'm not
sure what that's all about it anymore. The Bad Guys
Too is still out there, Superman still out there. These
are all in the top ten as well. You can
even catch Jurassic World if you want to at the theater.
So there are some things for the kids, but nothing
(05:30):
like we got coming up in the next probably eight weeks.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Well, but still, like you always say, at the end
of these things, something for everyone. You just got to
look harder.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
You gotta look really hard. Yeah, Freaky Friday's still out there.
I know a lot of a lot of junior high
girls are like in that one.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Very good Kevin Flannagan, thank you so much for joining
us this morning on Alabama's morning news.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Talk to you next week.
