Larry Richert is live in Dublin for Steelers vs. Vikings

Lots of sports action going on this weekend, some really
good games in the SEC. Penn State's got Oregon at home.
That's going to be a great game as well. The
Ryder Cup is happening in golf in New York this
week and the President on his way in Air Force
one right now. And in Dublin, Ireland this weekend. The
Pittsburgh Steelers in Minnesota Vikings have a game coming up.
It'll be seen on the NFL Network Sunday morning, eight

thirty hour time. And the stadium voice of the Pittsburgh
Steelers joined is now Larry Richard, who is in Dublin now.
And Larry, I understand that you have now been selected
to be the stadium announcer in Dublin for the game.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Hi, welcome to Croke Park Stadium. It's going to be
a blast. Yeah. So for the past fourteen seasons, I've
been the public address announcer at Akroscher and had an
opportunity with us once in a lifetime. Since it's a
designated home game for the Steelers, they invited me to
do the game as I would in Pittsburgh. So what

an honor. And I'm really excited today here NFL networks here.
All the networks are here running around town. So downtown Dublin,
there are a place called the Temple Bar. There's a
castle here that dates back a thousand years and a
Steeler bar called Fitzsimmons right in the River Iffy that
runs through Dublin. So the NFL's experience is actually set

up in the courtyard of this castle, and it's been amazing.
Walking around town. You feel very much like we would
at home in Pittsburgh, and people are excited. In eighty
two thousand seats preemium pay, six hundred and fifty thousand
people were in the queue at one point to try
to get tickets for this game. So there'll be plenty

of just NFL fans along with Vikings and Steeler fans,
but then there'll be a significant number of the locals
who've never been to an American football match.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
This is going to be incredible. I mean, this is
going to be seeing all across our country. Obviously, this
is a big game. What brought this game to Dublin
It's never been done before with the Steelers and the
Vikings in Dublin. So what made all this come together.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Well, there's never been a regular season game in Ireland,
and it should be the Steelers because of the ownership
that dates back now four generations to the chief Art Rooney,
who started the team in nineteen thirty three. His son
Dan Rooney became the ambassador to Ireland for three years,
so the Rooney connection is direct and actually in history,

the Vikings attacked the island in the eleven hundreds and
it was relations of the Rooneys that fought them off.
So it sets up for a perfect match between the
Vikings and the Steelers here in the streets. Here, here
we go Steelers and some Viking fans giving us the
thumbs down for that, but it's all in good fun.

Well, there are a lot of Steeler fans here in
Alabama as well, and no doubt about it, Buffalo Wild
Wings here in Hoover on Sundays becomes a Pittsburgh nation
with nothing but Steeler games on terrible towels and flags
and banners. So there are Steeler fans all across the world,
There's no doubt about it. So yeah, here we go, Steelers.
