Speaker 1 (00:00):
Talia, Jay Powers joins us now Fox coorts around it
in New York and New York Good morning time, you
welcome in Hey, good morning. So I saw this and
I thought, okay, all right, Donald Trump, sometimes you're just
asking for it. He has now decided he's going to
add his own birthday as a free National park day. Okay, fine,
you're the president, have at it. Who doesn't love free
park day? And then while he's acting MLK Day in Juneteenth,

(00:25):
what in his ever loving mind would think that everybody
would applaud that decision. I mean, you're asking for criticism.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah. I can't speak to what was his thought process
or the process of the National Park Service. However, I
can tell you that, you know, along with Flag Day,
which is June fourteenth, and also the President's birthday, there
have been some other free days that have been put
on the calendar for next year where they won't charge

(00:53):
a fee to get into a national park. And by
the way, the vast majority of national parks don't charge
fees to enter them. There are some, you know, big,
I think it's ten or eleven of the most visited
parks that do, like the Grand Canyon and Yosemite, and
you know Yellowstone things like that. Those are at Kadian
National Park. That one also they have, you know, they

(01:15):
have fees to get into those, either by per person
or buy a vehicle. The other days that have been
added for next year are also a National Park Service
one hundred and tenth Birthday which is August twenty fifth,
the Constitution Day which is September seventeenth, and Theodore Roosevelt's
birthday on October twenty seventh.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Well, that's pretty good, I you know, there's a lot
of places too. Like I had a friend recently said
to me, I've never really been to d C before,
and I find out that they're charging to get into
the you know, museums and things and monuments in DC.
I said, yeah, a lot of places. I mean, you're
in New York. Aren't there a lot of places that
you would think would be public access to charge fees?

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Right? It depends. Like if you go to the Statue
of Liberty, the Statue of Liberty, you know, Liberty Island,
there is not an entrance fee to get onto li
with the island. Now, there is one to go into
the statue itself, but you can visit the statue without
having to pay a fee. Now the fee is going
to come where you have to get the boat to

(02:15):
go over there. That's the thing that's not you know,
that's not a National parks. National Park Service runs the
runs Liberty Island, not the boat service. So that's the
one you end up having to pay fees. But yeah,
I mean there's there's you know, several things that you
know you might not say. Now, the Smithsonian Institution buildings,
all those museums are still free. Those don't charge an

(02:36):
admission fee. But as far as like certain monuments, I
think Washington Monument, you may have to have a there's
like a nominal fee to reserve a time to go
up in it, because you know, there are limited slots
if I remember correctly. But for the most part, you know,
most of these National Park Service things don't require a fee.
You can actually go to NTF dot gov and take

(02:57):
a look. They have everything listed that you know that
they run there, and it will tell you if you
have to pay a fee or not, or if it's
like I said, per person or vehicle or whatever. There's
also a change in the entrance fees for people who
are not from who or do not live in the
US or not residents of the US or that part's
kind of getting lost in this. The administration has put

(03:18):
forth it's America First pricing model, and it includes charging
that there's for US citizens, eighty dollars will get you
an annual National Parks Pass, which gets you into, you know,
and as many as you want to go to for
permanent residents in US citizens, if you are a non resident,
now they're going to charge two hundred and fifty dollars

(03:40):
for an annual National Parks pass. And if you're a
non resident, like an international tourist or something, and you
are here and you want to go to eleven one
of eleven of the nation's most popular parks, like I
mentioned the Grand Canyon Yellowstone, that's going to charge you
not only the admission fee for the entrance, they're also
going to tack on one hundred dollars a fee per
person to get in. So it's going to cost you.

(04:02):
If it was a thirty dollars entrance fee, it's going
to cost you one hundred and thirty dollars. If you're
an international tourist and you want to go run to
one of those parts, well that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
And you thought Disney was expensive, right, Tanya jay Powers,
thank you for the update. I appreciate that. I want
to make it clear that the President has not decided
to act MLK Day and June teenth off our national
holiday calendar. That's not what's happening. He was just taking it,
I guess away from the free park thing is is
that what we've come to the conclusion that he's just
not making this part of on those days it's free

(04:32):
to go to the park. Yeah, it's just the national parks.
It's not the holidays in their entire day. Okay, Well,
I'm glad to hear that. Okay, again, it still doesn't
make real good sense to me that when you would
take away national park days from them either. But you know,
you know, the President is surprised you every once in
a while, won't he
