Speaker 1 (00:00):
My name is John Bunce. We've been speaking all morning
about the tragedy that unfolded yesterday in Utah as an
assassin took the life of Charlie Kirk. And Charlie Kirk
was thirty one. He was relatively young, although there's been
a lot of great people who have lost their lives
in their early thirties. He was not only a great speaker,

(00:21):
he was also a husband and a father, a father
of two young children. And this hits close to home
because I have a daughter and I sometimes wonder what
would happen to me or to her if something happened
to me. And Charlie Kirk was asked, you know, one
of his things is he goes to colleges. He asked
questions of people, and people ask questions of him. He

(00:42):
answers their questions. And a woman came up to him
and she confronted him and she said, look, I don't
have a father. I was raised by my mother. I
don't think fathers are necessary. This was his response, Like,
I grew up without a father.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
I feel like I'm doing fine, I'm doing great. I'm
in college. Like, why why are we so towards the father?
Why why does he need to be there so much?

Speaker 3 (01:04):
So just looking at try to answer my question for me,
do you think what kind of kind of is there
any time? And you're you're being very vulnerable and I
appreciate that when you were growing up and maybe not
where you said I wish I had a dad around.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
My mom says I did wish for that once at
wishing well, but like I like my mom was great.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
She reported, No, no, I'm not a knock on single moms, right,
But was there ever a time maybe where a more
masculine figure would have been helpful?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
M I can't really not off the top of my head, Like,
what can you give me an example of when a
masculine figure would be helpful?

Speaker 4 (01:38):
In my level?

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Boyfriend might have broke up with you and you didn't
want to talk to your mom because she just didn't
get it, and you wanted a strong stable man to
say you're beautiful.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
I think, I mean I I have If my father
was like you're beautiful, I I that'd be cool. But
like if my mom was also like you're beautiful, I
don't don't really see a difference between like my mom
saying it and my father.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Saying Wow, Okay, yeah, that's I don't see the world
that way, because there's a very being a father to
a daughter. There's a very unique bond between a father
and a daughter where it's you kind of you fall
in love again, but not romantic love. You fall in
a different type of Greek love, which is called storregay,
which is a father daughter love where you have such
affection for this incredible being and your your task is

(02:26):
to shepherd that vulnerable, innocent girl through life all the
way up until the marriage aisle, to kind of connect
the two topics together, right where then you hand it
off to another man.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
And what is so sad is Charlie Kirk. He has
a daughter and she's going to grow up without him.
It's very sad. Sorry, it hits. It hits close to
him because I'm a father. Let's hear from some of
the other things you're having to say. This is a
talkback mic from Chip.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I thought for sure it was. First of all, I
want to say, God bless Charlie Kirk's family and be
with them. This is a complete tragedy it I was
just completely stunned and taken away when I heard this.
But you know, at first, I thought it was a

(03:17):
cabal of leftist that hated Trump and Charlie because Charlie
was so effective, especially with the young people.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
And I think you're right, and that's that's the reason
why they had it out for him, because he was
good at what he did. Let's go back to the
phones and we've been taking your your your opinion on
this on Morne two A five fo two five four
three nine W E. R. C. Jerry in Birmingham. What
do you think?

Speaker 5 (03:44):
Honestly, I think it's kind of politically motivated the tragic
command that happened yesterday, because well, I could have already
been a very conservative political figure. He chose to do
what he'd done. But since he was a popular with
the young voters and was conservative, I truly believe he
could have been the next president.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
You know, I think you're right. He's got a little
time because you can't even be president to you're thirty five.
But I think you're right. But in the meantime, what
I think he did in a large part is he
had a very large role in the fact that Donald
Trump is in the White House today because Donald Trump,
he had the older voters, he had the voters he
had back in twenty sixteen, but what he gained since
then when he ran this time was a youthful vote

(04:24):
and a lot of that vote came from people that
Charlie Kirk was influencing. And I think that angered a
lot of people on the left.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
And I agree because you know a lot of the
young people connected to him, and he was finally someone
that the younger general people connect to on their level,
and he intended to reach people that you know political
figure have reached in the battle.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
And that's the reason why you know when people are
effective for like that, you know, they come at you
because they know you're you're effective. If he wasn't doing anything,
if he was unaffective, people wouldn't care. But the fact
they do care. They cared so passionately, passionately enough to
want to strike him down. And that's one of those things,
you know, I go back to It's I know it's
a fictional thing, but the line from from Star Wars,

(05:02):
uh it was. It was uttered by Obi Wan Kenobi
to Darth Vader, if you strike me down, I'll become
more powerful than could possibly imagine. I think that's exactly
what happened yesterday.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
I agree. I agree an enemy, I'm gonna put me
in a prayer for his wife and family.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yes, yes, we should. We should all do that, and
Jerry very much
