Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we know, a horrible situation taking place in Minneapolis
as a devastating mass shooting happened yesterday morning. I guess
it was about eleven o'clock. Johnny You came into the
studio and said, oh, we've got another one. I'm like, no, please, no.
Two kids are dead, seventeen injured. Here's a ten year
old fifth grader, one of the students at this church school,
(00:22):
describing what he saw when the shooting started.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
We just got into mass and it was like three
minutes after. It was very scary. It was like, my
friend got shot in the back. He's in the hospital
right now. I think he's gonna be okay. And then
my friend Victor, he was like laying on top of me,
like making sure I was safe, and he got hit.
So that was really brave of him. I'm just like
(00:48):
confused kind of because I never thought it would happen,
and it just happens.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Poor kid, I mean, he's so articulate in the way
he described this and his friend protecting him, and you know,
his one friend get shot in the back. And this
kid speaking here also had a little scratch or cut
on his neck and he says, yeah, it was probably
from the debris hitting him from the pews that were shattering,
the wooden pews shattering from all the gunfire. People were
(01:14):
laying underneath them and on them. Horrible situation. Joining us
now for a little bit more on this whole situation.
Royal O'Neil is here. Roy good morning. So, in what
not even twenty four hours, we've learned a lot about
this shooter.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
We have twenty three years old. They took their own
life at the end of this attack. The person, apparently,
according to some reports, had boarded up the doors or
barricaded i should say the doors, preventing people from fleeing
the scene, and then shot into the church through the
stained glass weapons. They had three different firearms, a shotgun,
a rifle, and a pistol. We're also hearing more acts
(01:51):
of bravery and heroism inside the church. The older students
were leading some of the younger students to the basement
try to find shelter, to get them out of there
as quickly as possible. Even that little boy said the
whole thing was over in just a minute or two.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, And the mayor, you know, as it started to
come out that this guy changed his name from Robert
to Roburn and the indication was that he was transitioning transgender,
and the mayor there, Jacob Price, says, do not make
this about trans people. Listen.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Anybody who was using this as a using this as
an opportunity to villainize our trans community or any other
community out there, has lost their sense of common humanity.
We should not be operating out of a place of
hate for anyone. We should be operating from a place
(02:44):
of love for our kids. Kids died today. This needs
to be about them.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
You know, this brings up the issue of mental illness,
and call it what you will, but every doctor I've
talked to Roy says, gender dysphoria is a psychological issue.
It is not a biologic issue. And this kid guy
was in a position where he was confused about what
he wanted to be sexually and that has to have
(03:10):
an impact on your psyche. And you know, it was
a psychological problem that he was wrestling with one hundred percent.
But I also agree with the mayor that you don't
hate on people just because they're going through problems or
issues that have, you know, things to do with your
mental function. So yeah, you can't just call the entire
community of trans people out just because one bad apple
(03:33):
jumped out there. But this is what it is, and
he was all about, you know, who he was and
who he wanted to be in his manifesto, and the
hate that he had for Trump, the hate that he
had for basically God, Jews, the Catholic Church, and then
killing himself. There was mental illness going on here, and
(03:54):
you know, brings up the whole red flag thing here.
But you know, once again they jump into the whole
political scene on this gun control. Gun control from the governor.
Do we have a okay, no, but your thoughts roy
on right problem?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Right? I would clearly there are you know, if you
watched the video, if you read some of the manifesto
that it seems to be from this person. Uh, yeah,
clearly there were mental health issues involved, especially the writings
on the weapons themselves and the ammunition. Uh. Clearly a
lot of things would have raised red flags. And Minnesota
does have a red flag law. I think the Mayor's
point as well is in most of the other shootings
(04:32):
that sadly you and I have talked about over the years,
we don't say a straight weight male right, right, do
the shooting We don't typically use that as you know,
what does that relate to anything? But to your point,
you know, there's been clear evidence of mental health issues
that then raise questions. You know, he bought the guns legally,
there was nothing wrong, It had no criminal record. You
(04:53):
know what stepped along the way. Could we have intervened
in that point?
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Question? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
One hundred percent? All right, quickly, I know you've been
looking at the story about the national poll that came
out on how Americans are feeling about Trump's policies, including
the deployment of the National Guard troops in Washington. Apparently
now the mayor there she has come out and said, hey, look,
you know I got to give props where props are due,
and she means the White House, thank you for bringing
all these folks in here and helping them clean up
(05:20):
what's America.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yeah, she was very complimentary on that regard, a little
less so about having the ICE agents and the mass
iced agents in particular. But yeah, overall, I think the
mayor is pretty smart and knows how to work with
this White House moving forward. I think it is her plan.
Doesn't want to create an enemy at sixteen hundred Pennsylvania Avenue.
But this Quinnipiac poll out today shows that the president's
job approval numbers continue to slip, now down to thirty
(05:45):
seven percent overall. Most Americans don't like this guard deployment.
It's negative fifty six to forty one.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
I just don't get any And you're cleaning up the
crime in cities and people are like, no, I get
them out. Let's let the client crime flourish.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
You know.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
It's great, easy to me, but Ali Roy, thank you
for the update, buddy, I appreciate you.
