Speaker 1 (00:00):
Horrible situation. At least four people killed eight others injured
in this Michigan church shooting. Here's one of the witnesses.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's nice confusion.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
You want to make sense of these things, you never will.
This is just something you don't expect to see in person.
You know, you hear and read about things and news,
but to have it in your front yard, in your backyard,
like right across the street from where you live.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Joining it's now rowingie a little bit more on this one,
and also another shooting at a North Carolina bar Roy.
Welcome in, thanks for being here.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Hey JT, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
So apparently this guy in Michigan former I guess military,
and struggle with some mental illness. No surprise there, but
once again you just three two one here comes to
get rid of gun's speech from the Dems.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Again.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
No, it's about mental illness when people do this. But
he's dead after the shootout. What else we know about
this guy?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Right?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
It's interesting in both cases, both in North Carolina and Michigan,
both of the men who were accused are both forty
years old and both former military. Now in this Michigan case,
the man apparently drove a pickup truck into the side
of the church, and then the people in the church
were actually rushing to help toward the They were going
toward the truck to try to help. That's when he
(01:17):
steps outside and start shooting. Also set fire to the
church as well. The police were there within thirty seconds,
believe it or not, as officers were already in the area.
The officers confronted the gunman in this case and were
able to shoot and kill him, but not before he
set fire to that church. As you said, we've seen
at least four people killed, eight wounded. But they're going
(01:39):
to go through the debris today and they do expect
to find more bodies.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, the church apparently burned to the ground there, and
I mean, it was horrific destruction. And still not sure
that they don't have other victims in this situation because
of the fire, I understand a lot of people were
still trapped in there, at least a couple that didn't
get out right.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
And you know, even last night the death toll went
from four from two to four. So you know, they
were waiting for the scene to cool down, because when
they did get to the scene, they noticed that they
were IED's in the back of this pickup truck. I
think the destruction could have been far worse, not that
it wasn't total, but there could have been a lot
more victims had the police not been there so fast
(02:22):
and you know, prevent this guy from setting off these IEDs.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, you know, I know. The FBI is leading this investigation,
and they're you know, treating the incident as an act
of targeted violence.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
I'm not sure that this.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Was targeted at any one person. Was it a religious situation?
We don't know, I guess yet, but you know the
fact that yeah, that's or they just lose his mind,
didn't want to drive a truck into a building and
found this church. Oh there's one, I'll just go there.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
We don't know if it was going after this LDS
church in particular, the Mormon church, if there was a
specific you know, if you had a beef with someone
there in particular.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Don't know, And that's what we're waiting for. Hopefully the
FBI starts this.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
They've got one hundred different FBI agents deployed there.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Meanwhile, in North Carolina, three people killed, five more injured.
Theres this gunman opened fired up, opened up fire rather
south for a North Carolina. I guess he had a boat.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Right, This guy was on a boat.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Now, the police there said this guy, they knew this
Nigel Edge. He's had some run ins with the cops before,
one of those guys always filing lawsuits against the city
in the county. And he also claims to have PTSD
and says he was injured in the line of duty
during his service multiple tours of Iraq. But he allegedly
opened fire on this bar front area the American Fish
(03:44):
Company and then fled the scene on his boat. The
Coastguard tracked him down arrested him. He's now facing multiple
charges of first degree murder. There may have been some
anti LGBTQ writings that have already been associated with Edge,
but nothing specific as to why things were targeted last
night in particular.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, the government at the church shooting in Michigan is
dead after the shootout of the cops. This guy they caught,
he's alive and we'll, as you mentioned, face these charges also, Rory,
I know you've been following what's happening with seasonal hiring.
Is it an all time low now? As this is
usually the time of year people start getting part time
seasonal jobs.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
What's going on.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, we're seeing that that number could be down to
the lowest since two thousand and nine. Look, a lot
of companies don't know what to do with the tariffs,
and actually the mom and pop store maybe doing more
hiring than the.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Big box retailer.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Companies like Target and Kohle's have been a little koy
about their hiring plans, saying they might just do more
additional hours for their current staff.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Companies are like Death.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
And Bodyworks that they're going to hire thirty two thousand people.
Those Spirit Halloween stores will add about fifty thousand. But
as we shop more and more online, the process is
also becoming much more efficient. You know, the warehouses have
more robots and everything's much more automated now, so there's
less human input needed. So even as we shift to
(05:04):
more the online sales, don't just think it's all well
the warehouse and the delivery people, they'll hire more of them.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, not as much because it's becoming automated.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah right, thank you so much. I appreciate the updated
