Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seeing some videos now of people that are still in
Jamaica posting about how the storm came through and did
so much damage. But I was just talking to McKenzie
about this. It's weird to see so much damage in
right behind them in the video or blue skies, no
wind whatsoever. You know, the column before the storm and
then after the storm. It is just incredible and what
it has done there in that area. It's probably one

(00:22):
of the biggest storms they've had on record. And then
thirty people at least, I'm sure that numbers all over
the map been going to change. But Roy O'Neil joins
us now for an update on what's happened and what
is about to happen in Cuba. Good morning Roy, Well,
good morning JT.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
And you know, the storm is now north of Cuba
and north of the Bahamas and targeting Bermuda. It's still
a Category two hurricane winds of one hundred and five
miles per hour as it is approaching Bermuda late today.
This thing could actually still be a Cat one hurricane
passing Newfoundland, Canada Saturday. So this thing is just lingering.

(00:57):
But they're still trying to do damage assessment in Jamaica.
You mentioned thirty people killed. Most of those that we
know are known fatalities are actually in Haiti because of
the rainfall this storm generated there. We really don't have
any good numbers about what's happening on the ground in Jamaica.
You've probably seen that video that the Prime Minister shared.

(01:18):
Boy in the southwest or the western part of the country,
you'd be hard pressed to find a rooftop still in place.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, just awful situation. As you mentioned, it's moving through
Cube on its way up to the Bahamas, Bermuda and
then on up into Canada area. No indication of the
things that the thing is going to bounce around the
Carolinas at Florida coast, nothing like that.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
No, none of that. Actually, if you look at that
cone that the National Hurricane Center predicts, wow, it is narrow,
and they've pretty much nailed this forecast all along the way,
warning that this would become a CAP five system and
following this very unusual track first off, Jamaica sort of
went around in a figure eight there for a while,
but now some upper levels are picking it up. The

(02:01):
same cold front that's moving across the southeast is going
to push this thing off into the Atlantic, so.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
A lot of people are still trapped there in Jamaica.
But I understand there's some I guess light at the
end of the tunnel. As far as the airport opening
up again today, yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
We should be getting some more airport activity. You know.
I think the terminal at Montego Bay won't be operational
for quite some time. A lot of damage there. Montego
Bay is on the north side of the island and
to the west now Kingston, Jamaica, the capital. Obviously it
endured quite a bit but was spared the worst of Melissa,
so it should be standing up becoming much more operational

(02:36):
more quickly. I saw a note from the Jamaican government
saying that you know, their personnel are expected to be
back at work today, although granting absences for valid reasons.
But they're hoping to have a lot of government operations
up and running again today. So they're trying to get
back on their feet. But it's the western part of
the island that really bore the front of this.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
All right, switching gears here our fed shared Jerome power.
I'll drop the interest rate. It's a quarter point yesterday.
Good news there, but there was some shaky news as well,
and where he kind of indicated that that might be
it for the rest of the year.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
You know, we were expecting another rate cut in December,
and I think it was good money was bet on
the fact that we would see another rate cut. Then
the rate cut announced yesterday was sort of baked into
the cake. With the stock market levels already much much higher.
But because of the government shutdown, we don't get the
data about jobs information, and the FED chairs like, look,

(03:32):
it's like we're driving in the fog. What's the first
thing to do. You slow down? So they want to
sort of slow down on some of these rate cuts
unless they can get the shutdown to end quickly in
some of this job's data. So it didn't rule out
a December cut, just said they might have to slow
things down a bit.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, it doesn't look like it will be. I was
watching Jerome Palle's address to the press and the public
about this yesterday on my phone and all I kept
seeing were these angry orange mooji's circles pop up on
the screen. Why isn't this guy fired. Get rid of
this guy. He's out of control. He's not going to
do it again. He's lying. He's blah blah blah. We
need to be moving quicker on these interest rates coming

(04:10):
down some more. And nobody's talking about, hey, we don't
have the data because of the government shutdown. Really, so, yeah,
you're right, great analogy with a fog.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
And he doesn't do it alone. By the way, it's
not that you know that he's sort of has a
lot of influences the chair But it's the twelve people
that vote on these interest rate cuts. I think they
had two that wanted that voted no. One was key
things as they are. One was this isn't enough. We
want to go faster. So yeah, let's see what happens
with that December meeting. And as we heard from President Trump,
chairman Powell's days as chairman there are numbered at this point.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
All right, very good, Roniel, thank you for the update.
I appreciate you, buddy,
