Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, are some good news maybe that the SNAP program
may be coming back. Yeah, here's a little bit on
this from our Treasury chech Terry Scott Besson.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Well, President Trump just truthed out that he needs to
hear from the courts how this is going to be done.
And Jake, as you know, the best way for SNAP
benefits to get paid is for Democrats five Democrats to
cross the aisle and reopen the government.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yeah, he says, could you know, restart as soon as Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
No, but there's a process that has to be followed.
So we got to figure out what the process is.
President Trump wants to make sure that people get their
food benefits, so it could be done by wednesday, could be, okay,
could be.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
There's the interview on CNN over the weekend, joining us
Now Royal and Neil, our correspondent following this, Ray, welcome in,
thanks for being here. Hey, JG, Happy Monday, Happy Monday
to YouTube. So where they go find the money? They
got it somewhere right.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, they do have an extra little reserve that's been
set aside of about five and a half billion dollars.
Problem is it cost about eight point two billion dollars
each month for the benefits, and they're not all paid
out on the first of the month. So this is why,
as we heard from the secretary there, it's a little
bit complicated. So they want to get some more direction
from the court about exactly what funds to author raise.
(01:14):
How much does everyone just get seventy five percent for now?
Is that how this works? Or do we a hope
that you know, some states gets one hundred percent now
and we hope that by the end of the month,
other states that may get it, say on the twenty fifth,
will have a government that's opened by then. Those kinds
of things that they're trying to get the courts to
make clear.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, speaking of the government shutdown, no word over the weekend.
They took a recess on Friday, so I would imagine
there was a much going on, any behind the scenes
movement that you saw heard of.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
I think the only suggestion comes from the House Speaker Johnson,
who says that he now believes that the Democrats are
just trying to keep the shutdown through tomorrow's election day,
saying that you had to reopen the govern that might
help Republican candidates in some states, and that's what the
Democrats were trying to avoid. I'm not sure he's got
(02:07):
any facts to back that claim up, but that's his
version that we heard this weekend. Yeah, and of course
that means the elections are tomorrow, so maybe there is
some movement by Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Well we shall see. Speaking of those elections up in
the north of Virginia, New Jersey give a natorial race.
Is there Jersey really a blue state? But there's some
movement now, possibly the Republican will come through. And let's
not forget about Mundani in New York City. That looks
Psyche is going to grab a win unless something miraculous
happens between now and the night. Your thoughts is Obama
(02:38):
was out there pitching in to try and get everybody
fired up for the Democrats.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, especially there in New Jersey, which is certainly tight.
And then California's got the other big race where they
are trying to get that referendum pass essentially to change
the congressional maps to try to get five more blue
seats out of California to offset the five red seats
that the Texas legislature secured when they read you the
maps there.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Well, I got to tell you the new York City
thing here. I don't know if you've been following much
on that, but it does not look good for the
Republican slee While he's done, forget about it. Cuomo's still
in the race there, closing some gaps. But then the
next poll you look at, it's like it's still double
digits right for Mundani. So a lot of people around
(03:23):
the country are thinking, is this the new Republican Party?
Are they? I mean the Democratic Party? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Well, I mean that's well the same way that President
Trump transformed the Republican Party, right from sort of moving
away from the Reagan days to now this is clearly
Donald Trump's Republican Party. Are the Democrats moving away from
JFK days and now this is becoming the AOC Mom
Donni party? You know, that's the question there.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, Keem Jefferies too just seems to be a name
right now. And I don't think Harry's the cloud that
a lot of people thinks he think he may. I
think Mundannie could be, you know, something new for this
not only New York City you know situation, but the
movement around the country, which is a bit scary if
we're going in this direction. For for all of us,
really so, I just can't see that coming to fruition nationwide,
(04:11):
but we better wake up America
