Speaker 1 (00:00):
John mounts in for JT at US press conference last
night with law enforcement. Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced that
the public is responding with tips and they're finding great stuff,
but they're still needing your help.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
We cannot do our job without the public's help. Right now,
the public has answered our call for action. So far,
we've received more than seven thousand leads and tips. I
just know that the FBI hasn't received this many digital
media tips from the public since the Boston marathon bombing.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
And joining me now is Rory O'Neil with the latest information.
And Rory, I guess nothing new overnight, is there?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
No? Not particularly you know. It's the video that was
released last night I think was very significant. It shows
him jumping off the rooftop and sort of running from
the scene, but it doesn't give us that close up
detail that would really help us identify this guy. But
we know more about the T shirt he's wearing, even
the kind of shoes he was wearing, in order to
(00:58):
put together a good profile, so much so that somebody
knows this guy right, whether it's an ex, whether it's
a best buddy, whether it's mom or dad, somebody recognizes
this guy, and they're just trying to shake the tree
and get that final tip out there, because the FBI
and law enforcement will tell you these tips are incredibly
valuable and can really break a case.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Now if I'm him, and I'm because one of the
things I saw on social media, people were talking about
the T shirt that they're wearing in the picture, and
they said, it looks like it looks like a right
wing T shirt, looks like an American flag T shirt.
And I was thinking, if you're going to go to
an event like this and you're wanting to blend in,
wouldn't you wear something like that before we before we
decide who this guy is based on the shirt that
he's wearing. Maybe he's wearing that shirt because he wanted
(01:42):
to look like one of the people in the crowd.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Oh absolutely, you know, and blending in. And you know,
you can look at the videos or the images and
the stairwell that shows he's consciously not trying to touch
the railing, So you know, he was aware of leaving
DNA of his presence there, so the selection. But you know,
whether that Tea's shirt was in his regular rotation, you know,
did he wear it every other Tuesday or was it
(02:04):
sort of a one off. We don't know. But again,
friends and family might recognize him from wearing that shirt
in the past.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
He's got to be a pretty physically fit guy on
account I watched him come off that roof and he
let him In the video, you can see he lets
himself down, maybe the first, you know, a couple of feet,
but he probably falls I think about ten feet, lands
on his feet and doesn't break his ankle, and runs off.
So to be able to pull that off, you've got
to be in pretty good shape.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, that was one of the things I noticed as well.
I would have fallen off that thing like a sack
of potatoes, but no, Yeah, he held up and held
up his fall there so and moved away pretty well.
And you may have seen that other video. I think
TMZ had it first. It appears to be him. It
looks like he's almost limping through a neighborhood in the
minutes before the shooting. Some suggesting that maybe it's because
(02:48):
he's hiding the gun down the side of his body
and that's what's forcing his odd walk, because I was
looking for that to be repeated, but no, it seemed
to be that he ran off in a seemingly healthy
way when he tried to flee the scene, and I.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Think I saw in the video of him falling there, falling,
jumping off the roof, he tossed something down I think
first in that it looked like maybe a bag with
a gun in it. Did Did I hear that the
gun was recovered in the woods?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Right? Yeah? The weapon they believe was used in this
bolt action rifle was found with a scope I should
say in the woods was recovered. They believe that's the
weapon that was used here. I obviously forensic tests have
to be done, but this has been a big part
of the investigation and it just falls in line with
what they know so far. You know, at the event
(03:34):
last night, I'm not calling it a press conference because
they didn't take questions, But at the event last night
when they released this video, I have questions about the phone.
Right when you see that very first photo they released,
he's walking down the stairs, you can clearly see the
outline of a phone in his right pants pocket. You know,
Apple or Samsung might know where this guy is right now,
(03:54):
and I think that might be an important factor in
this case.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Unless he pulls a breaking bat and snaps it in half.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Well, or why would you bring it with you? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Exactly. I would think he seems like he's he has
put some thought into the way he's pulling this off.
This doesn't seem like the acts of a guy who just,
you know, one day woke up and said, Hey, I
think I'll go kill Charlie Kirk. He had been he'd
been working on this for a while, and he seems
like he knew what he was doing. Did you hear
anything about because I heard this discussed on Clay and
(04:23):
Bucky yesterday. But I think it was pontification that there
was some messages scrawled on the gun in someplace, or
there were some things on the gun, but I don't
think they've released that, have they.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
So the Wall Street Journal had a report that early
yesterday afternoon about etchings on either the AMMO or on
the gun that were either about the trans movement or Antifa.
Now the specifics of that report were later withdrawn by
the Wall Street Journal. They're just sort of backing off
a little bit. They might be right, it might be true,
but as of last night, they started to back off
(04:55):
that report. So we haven't gotten any confirmation from agents
on those etchings that must have been there. And again
they didn't take any questions last night, so I think
that was would have been one of the prime topics.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, yeah, probably why they didn't take questions, because you're
probably right, one of the first tip questions they would
have asked. Rory O'Neill, thank you so much for joining us.
I know we'll probably have more on this when we
meet back again on Monday morning.
