Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining US Royal Neil to chat about what happened yesterday
with the Senate as they passed this bill, now move
through and support the president's cuts nine billion dollars from
public broadcasting foreign aid as they move forward to make
more DOGE movements. Roy good morning, welcome in.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hey there, JT, Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
So I was expecting I mean that nine billions a
chunk of change, but I thought we were talking like
close to a trillion we're going to be doing with
all these cuts.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Oh, this is supposed to be the.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Beginning, so we'll see if there's much more of an
appetite for it in Congress, you know. And these are calallbacks,
so this is not money necessarily going forward. This is
taking back money or canceling money that was approved during
the last Congress. So it's a bit more of an
aggressive thing typically the administration. And this is what they
did here. They asked Congress to go back and undo

(00:51):
some of what was previously approved and look some of
the projects that you know, we all want we may
want to see cut. Some members of Congress say, hey,
that's my district. I don't want to cut that. So
it's a bit tougher to claw back some money sometimes,
but this may be the first of several of these
kind of clawbacks.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Well, it was a close vote to fifty one to
forty eight in the Senate to do this. Senator Mkowski
Shaker here of Alaska, and Susan Collins of Maine another
Shocker voted no alongside the Democrats. So I don't even
know why these people are still in the Republican Party.
I guess they seem to be, you know, left of where.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
A lot of times. But then JT. That's also a performance, right.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
I mean, they'll vote no because they know they can,
and that way they can go up to their district
and say, see, I am.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
You know, fighting for you, or I fought to save PBS.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Well you know, no, you didn't, and you knew you
could vote no because you knew you had the numbers
to pass.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
But they're the most consistent at voting no.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Is it right? I got it? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
But it's part of the performance is that they have
cover and they know what it's going to pass, and
oh no, they can look like they're brave and independent.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Let's talk a little bit more about what's going on
with the immigration situation now. As President Trump has had
some great successes in that arena. The numbers are down
in the good direction at our border, but there are
some things happening now, and you know immigration that's upsetting
a lot of people when it comes to ice, right, Yeah,
crackdown in places like California and Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Once again, it's just following the plan that he was

(02:22):
mandated to do when he came into office. So what's
the big hubub.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Right, So let's start with the great numbers, right.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
We've seen a huge falloff in illegal border crossings and
even interactions that Customs and Border Protection has with people
trying to enter the US. There were twenty five thousand
total encounters nationwide. That's the lowest monthly total in CBP history.
In fact, in fact, excuse me, on June twenty eighth,
there were just one hundred and thirty six apprehensions. And

(02:50):
now those numbers were in the tens of thousands a
year or two ago. So it's been a remarkable success
at the southern border, and not really because of big
policy chain, but just more in attitudes and messaging that's
going out from President Trump saying don't even try to
come in here. That's really shut down a lot of
that cartel activity, but a lot of the activities here

(03:10):
in the US to deport people who are here already illegally,
not a whole.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Lot of support for that.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Surprisingly, the Pole finds thirty nine percent approved with the
way ICE is handling their job, fifty seven percent disapprove,
And nearly two thirds of Americans don't look like this
idea of deporting someone to a third country if they're
from another. So if you're here from Mexico illegally, they
don't like this idea of deporting you to El Salvador

(03:38):
to be in a prison there until whatever might happen
to you.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Well, you know, you broke the law. So it's all
about law and order as far as I'm concerned. And
you know, if you're here illegally, then you know, as
Christine Oum said and the team, if you'll self deport,
you know it's going to look real good for it,
and you can get yourself back in line and do
it the right way. So I think they're doing a
great job. And the attacks on ICE, you know, they

(04:04):
got to be locking these people up right, And the
