Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, join us now, Ryan smilesire Fox corts funding
(00:02):
to in Washington. A little bit of an update on
what Congress is up to this week. The President's certainly
been busy, that's for sure. The Supreme Court is going
to be busy. So Ryan, walkme in. I'm just glad
here that Congress hasn't taken off of the holidays yet.
What are they doing this week?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah? Not yet. Well, hey, look, first of all, let's
cop meant that Ole Miss and Alabama both are in
the playoffs and Auburn Auburn, I think, I think had
a home run head coaching higher in a year that
there weren't that many good candidates available.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Well, I'm telling you what, you're spot on on all
of those points. I think Auburn did get a great coach.
This guy's a ball coach. He's not taken any any
funny business.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
He's not doing the drama that some coaches like to do, and.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
I think he's going to be good for the Auburn program.
Alabama played a horrific game over the weekend. We know
that it's tough to beat Georgia twice. So who's looking
back not me. Let's go We're in the playoffs. So well,
since you brought it up, since you brought up the
playoff situation and Alabama's in, what do you think about
Notre Dame being out there and not happy with this?
(01:06):
In fact, they've declined any ball offers beyond this. They're
going their season, So your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
I think what it says is that maybe the college
football Playoff Committee listens to the public and listens to
social media and outside voices more than maybe we're giving
them credit for. Because you know, this was a big
campaign from you know, a lot, I mean a lot
of people are making this argument to them, you know,
whether it be in the media, on social media or
(01:31):
just you know, Miami screaming it from the mountaintops. But
Miami had this compelling case to jump Notre Dame, you know,
going off the strength of schedule and going off of
the head to head matchup in some of these other arguments,
and it looks like they listened to the public and
it was a captivating argument, and I think that's really
what played in here.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I think the more head scratching thing was probably the
fact that you already had one group of four team
get in, which was too lame, but then you had
another one in James Madison get in number twelve, So
I think there could probably be I mean, you've got
to make an argument that Notre Dame could have been
that number twelve seat or somebody else could have been.
That's probably the part there that that's going to be
the most frustrating. It's not gonna talks about enough.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Here's here's an idea, Notre Dame join a conference.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Okay, and you know, yeah, no that that's that's where
you say, well, if you were the a CC champion,
you no one could have denied it from you there,
But you know they weren't. They're they're independent, and that
probably has Yeah, that that decision to be independent I
think came back to haunt them this year.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Can you please explain to me nobody's ever really given
me a legit explanation as to why Notre Dame is
not forced to be in a conference.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Why why do they get a pass?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah? Well, I mean some other teams do it too,
you know, I believe it's the Naval Academy does it
as well. And you know that that that may have
cost them not being a conference champion too. And then
there's some other teams U b YU. For a long
time was was an independent. I don't know. I mean, yeah,
it's it's it's a weird question. It's a weird thing
(02:58):
that's going on. But you know, it's been an independent,
and everyone who's hated that, well they got satisfied because
then being an independent I think cost him in the situation.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
In a big Army Navy game.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Coming up this weekend too, Doll Jonathan update on Congress.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
What are we doing this week?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Well, you know there's two things you're going to watch
for that are big off the top, well, actually three.
And since we were already on the topic, you know,
there was a a nil slash transfer portal slash, you know,
kind of overhaul of college athletics bill called the Score
Act that was proposed last week that was actually pulled
from the floor after some pushback because there was questions
(03:36):
about whether or not Republicans be able to get the
votes to get it on the floor and get it passed.
You know, some people called it the Lane Kip and
Protection Act. That's what Keem Jeffries called it. There was
a number of other issues that certain people had with
the bill, and we'll see if Republicans are able to
maybe work some things out amongst their conference to change
the bill enough that it could actually get votes. But
(03:57):
then also, you're going to have the vote on healthcare
this week and potentially a vote on the National Defense
Authorization Act the NDAA, which is a big, much must
pass legislation that sets military policy for the next fiscal year.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
The Democrats not falling around this time on the healthcare issue.
They want a three year extension here, So I don't
smell anything good in that area now.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
You know, Chuck Schumer's chances of having that bill passer
are very slim. You know, there's some other options that
have been thrown out there. But if that's the one
that Democrats are going to run with, you know, the
votes just simply aren't going to be there.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yeah, I'm with you on that one, all right, Ryan smells.
Thank you, buddy, I appreciate it.
