Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now is Senator Katie Britt on a number
of issues. Not that there's anything to talk about in
DC these days, but Katie, welcome back in Thanks for
being here.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah, I am he, I am so glad to be here.
It has been an eventful morning already, got Ridgway dropped
off at football at seven am. I have gone to
the grocery store, back home and getting the day started.
So always good to be on with you.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Nice to be home too, sometimes after all the busyness
that you're doing in d C for us here in Alabama,
and it has been crazy hectic in Alabama. So I
wanted to start with what you're doing as far as
you know the crime stoppers. You know, you've received this
award Crime Stopper of the Year. Congratulations by the way.
But you know, we all know back here at home,
you know you've always been you know pro law and
(00:47):
order and law, you know law enforcement, and you know,
doing the right thing when it comes to this. And
we watch and see what the President's done with the
National Guard in DC and he's looking at other cities
to kind of help clean up the crime there. And
I just saw a new stat out thirty five percent
of Americans kind of welcome that. If my city's a mess,
yeah we'll take that help, thank you very much. But
oh my gosh, Katie, the blowback from the Democrats on
(01:07):
this thing.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Your thoughts, well, it's absolutely ridiculous. It shows that you know,
they're there once again, you know, the party of You know,
they seem to be they lack common sense and seem
to be somehow embracing crime. I mean, think about that, JT.
And just to rewind to your earlier point, it is
(01:29):
wonderful to be home, you know, to get to be
in Alabama. We have been working NonStop. That's exactly what
we should be doing. We've actually taken over five hundred
votes in the US Senate twice the number of votes
that have been taken in the House to date that
the record ever and a whole year in the Senate
is five hundred and thirty eight. And we will surpass
(01:49):
that when we get back next week or the week following.
So we're working NonStop because we know how important this is.
We have done things like the Lake and Riley Act
and like Halt Sentinel to make sure that our law
enforcement officers have the tools they need. I was so
proud to lead that effort in the Senate. Getting Crime
Stoptor of the Year in Alabama was a huge honor.
(02:11):
And to be able to stand in front of so
many of our courageous law enforcement officers that leave the
safety of their home every single day so that we
can return to ours was truly humbling. And so to
be a resource for them, to be a partner to them,
to make sure that they have what they need, both
from support and tools, resources, etc. It is absolutely something
(02:32):
that our prioritize every day and it is an honor
to do it. We're going to keep doing that because
keeping communities safe is not only common sense, but it
allows people to flourish. And that's what President Trump ran on.
He said, we're going to secure our border, We're going
to make our streets safe, We're going to make America
more prosperous. And he's making good on that at every
single turn. That's exactly what he's doing in Washington, d C.
(02:55):
I mean, you think about the crime rate in DC
and President Trump is lated in front of the America people.
He has put it in front and said, look look
at the look at the capital of Columbia, look at
the capital of this, this this He's gone down one
by one and shown how disproportionate the crime is there
in Washington, d C. It's simply unacceptable. And the greatest
country in the world. We should people should be able
(03:17):
to come, school groups should be able to come. Famili
should be able to come and listen. Young people should
be able to come and work for their state, work
for their country without fear of having to walk home
to their apartment or their hotel at night safely. And I,
for one, this is personal. You know that I had
a staffer that was actually held at gunpoint, you know,
(03:41):
just just over a year ago, and so you know,
we've got to clean this up. President Trump is doing
what no one else has done before. Over one thousand arrests,
over one hundred illegal firearms seized, and so he's doing
what should have been done a long time ago. And
I have a feeling it's going to be a model
for doing it across the country unless these mayors and
(04:01):
governors step up and do it themselves.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Well, I really don't get the pushback from these mayors
and governors, you know, and I know it's not a
good look if the president comes in and says look,
you're not doing a good enough job here, so we're
going to help you out. Yeah, that'll smack them.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
They're not they're not. I mean, they're not doing a
good enough job. But the beginning and end of story,
they're not. They continue to allow crime to run rampant.
They prioritize the criminal and not the victim, and they're
not doing what it needs to They're they're soft on crime.
And therefore, you know, their their streets are unsafe, and
(04:33):
it's got to stop. Because if you want communities to flourish,
if you want people to come in and build a
small business or raise their family there, they want to
know that those the people are safe and that there
is a pathway to the American dream for their children.
And and safety is paramount in that. If we can't
keep people safe, you know, there are so many other
(04:56):
things that follow. So I think it's imperative and I
think we've got to up our streets and we've got
to do it now, and.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
With the safety in mind here, that's kind of the
mandate the American people voted Donald Trump. And when it
comes to our border as well, and you know, the
folks at Ice are under attack, like crazy right now.
And yesterday the DNC had their big meeting and you know,
one of the members there says that the ice crisis
is worse than the pandemic in our country right now,
listen to this, and I want to get your thoughts
(05:22):
on the how tone out the Democrats seem to be on.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
This are We've had a tremendous amount of raids. I
you know, we're dealing with different circumstances here, but I've
said this a lot, but Latinos in California are dealing
with this ice crisis. I think we're living worse times
than the times of the pandemic ice crisis.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
I think we're, you know, in a boom of protection
and the President doing great work with ice, and recruiting
is up and safety is up, and the numbers of
illegals are down. I mean, I don't get the Democratic
position on this. And they had some strife in their
own room yesterday amongst each other. They're just not aware
of what the American people want or they don't care.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
No, and once again they are allowing the far left
to run their agenda and to run their party, and
this is why they lost on November fifth. They are
fighting to make sure that biological boys can play in
biological girls' sports. I mean they are, you know, sitting
(06:32):
here saying no, we need wide open borders and there's
no way to stop the flow. They want to even
send taxpayer dollars, hard earned American taxpayer dollars to the
people who came here illegally. I mean they consistently they
don't want to actually crack down and say we will
not have crime on our street and we will do
what it kate to keep people safe. I mean common
(06:55):
sense has gone out the window. And look, this was
the most litigant an issue of the last four years,
and the American people said, if you don't have borders,
you don't have a country. And we are ready for
some safety, some security, and some stability. And so I
mean you think about all of the things. I mean,
(07:15):
they stood up literally and voted against us. No tax
on tips, no tax on overtime, the things that we
were doing to her to help hard working families. I
mean here for the very first time ever, so since
nineteen eighty six, since Reagan was in office, I led
the effort to change the tax code so that childcare
could be more affordable and hard working parents could keep
(07:38):
more of their money. They voted against it, so consistently
they seem to be out of touch with the American people.
The American people do not want to have to go
through another Lincoln Riley or Rachel Moren or Joscelyn Nungary.
And these Democrats, remember, have yet to apologize to those
parents or to go sit with those parents and family.
(08:01):
But yet they go and these MS thirteen gang members,
they seem to be, you know, carrying the mantle four.
That's that's not that's not what the American people want,
and unfortunately they're out of touch.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yet again, one hundred percent. Well, Katie, I really appreciate
this morning, Thank you so much. Quickly, what's on your
agenda for the next week or two. What's front and
center for you?
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Front and center We've got I'll be traveling the state.
Will also be going to volleyball games and football games,
watching my children, and then we get back to work. Listen.
I have been working with my colleagues, truly on both
sides of the aisle, trying to figure out a pathway
forward to this backlog. Democrats are actually using obstruction tactics
(08:45):
that have never been used to this degree. Before President
Trump did not have one nominee, not one that had
an opportunity to move through that you know, with by
voice vote, which is unprecedented. You look back on Obama,
back on Bush, you're talking about upwards of ninety ninety
two percent of their nominees went through by voice vote.
(09:06):
So we're working on how do we make the Senate
actually function again for the American people. So I'm meeting
with my colleagues, tons of calls. I'm trying to figure
out that pathway, pathway and get this backlog on jammed
for President Trump and for the country, not just now
but in the future.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Well, Katie, I appreciate all the work you're doing it.
And it's a hot minute since we've chatted, so we'll
stay in touch and do it again soon. But thank
you so much for the updates for coming back on soon.
All right, take care, thank you, all right, byebye
