Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now. Senator Katie Britt is back. She's been
busy lately. Katie, welcome in, Thanks for being here.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Thank you so much. JT. It is always great to
be on and it is going to be an eventful
week in Washington, DC as we start working on one big,
beautiful bill on the Senate side and getting some nominations
across the finish line. So I'm excited to be on
with you. On my way to the.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Airport, well, I got to tell you the House passed it.
It was a close one, but it got through. There
was no real question. I guess at the end of
the day that it would make it to the Senate.
But it seems that when you hear from folks like
Rhan Paul and a few other senators that this increasing
the debt of the country is irresponsible. We're handing it
off to our kids and grandkids and it's just not

(00:42):
going to fly. We're going to have big concessions here,
So I'm imagining they're getting out the hammer and chisel
on the House bill and basically reconstructing it. Where are
we on the hot button items like increasing our debt
and what else is the concern for the Senate.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Now absolutely, you see a unified Republican conference as we
discuss this and say we have got to take significant
steps forward on making sure that we are more responsible
with taxpayer dollars. You've had four years of Joe Biden
where he literally has been off the rails with spending. Obviously,
the very first COVID push that we all did, and

(01:19):
President Trump over said we needed to make sure that
we were helping the economy during that time. But the
continual spending was not only inflationary, but it was irresponsible.
When you go back and look at what we spent
pre COVID versus what we spend now, it does not
even remotely track with inflation and population groups. So we've

(01:40):
got to rain that back in, and then we've got
to find places to make responsible decisions that help us
be able to continue to do what we need to
do for the American people. So here in the Senate,
you're going to see us continue to do that. Over
this last state work period, which has been this last week,
committees have been working around the clock. They have been

(02:02):
talking and pushing and pulling and saying, Okay, what if
we did this and how about this? So taking a
look at the House bill and seeing how can we
improve this for the American people. So that's exactly what's
going to be happening. We understand what's at stake. If
we don't get this done, then the American people will
see a four trillion dollar tax increase. Average Alabamians JT.

(02:23):
We'll see over two thousand dollars a year added to
their bill, which we what we want to do is
we want to put more money back in taxpayers pocket.
We don't want the taxpayers giving more money to the
federal government. So hard working Americans deserve to keep more
of their paycheck. And so we're going to work diligently

(02:44):
to figure out how we do that. You know, in
addition to all of those things, you know, making sure
that we're looking at how are we more responsible with spending,
How are we making sure that taxpayers get to keep
more of their hard earned dollars. We're going to make
sure that we that ICE and Homeland Security have the
resources they need to not only detain, but deport criminal

(03:04):
illegal aliens. We have seen the numbers at the border
JT drop dramatically with President Trump in office, which has
shown that we did not need a new law. We
needed a new president. But what we see, like what
we saw last night in Colorado, absolutely despicable, gut grenching,
and that was an illegal alien that was here that

(03:24):
needs to be removed. And so making sure that we
have those resources in place are important. We'll also make
sure that we have resources in place to make sure
that we're ready for twenty first century warfare with defense,
and then we'll make sure that we're unleashing American energy
because you and I both know that we do it cleaner,
better and more efficiently than anyone across the planet. But

(03:46):
we also know it not only drives down prices, it
makes us a more secure nation. So hey, we got
our work cut out for us, but we are all
committed to achieving a result and we understand what's at stake.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Give us go back to the bill real quick here. Obviously,
the debt ceiling is a major issue with the Senates
and the Americans as far as that's concerned. But what
about the cuts where they're coming from. Let's talk medicaid.
That seems to be a hot button and that everybody's
talking about it's going to going to cut medicaid. I
think they're just going to be cutting the fraud, right,

(04:20):
I mean, we've got how many hundreds of thousands of
illegals on medicaid?

Speaker 2 (04:24):
That's right, bingo what we see as we see democrats
fear mongering once again. So when we're looking at medicaid,
you're taking obviously those people who are not supposed to
be on it, those illegal aliens off. You're also taking
a look and saying, hey, where is their fraud? Where
is there somebody that has signed up for Medicaid in
more than one state. I don't think anyone across the

(04:48):
country believes that someone should be double dipping, you know,
getting medicaid in Alabama and in Tennessee for example. So
cleaning that up is critically important. And then the thing
that we are talking about Senate is work requirements. You know,
if you are enabled bodied, working age person without dependence

(05:08):
at home. So what we're saying is you're able bodied,
so I'm not taking off disability, you're working age, I'm
not taking you out of retirement, and you don't have
dependence at home. And right now, dependents are nineteen and under.
Obviously that is up for debate as to what that
number needs to be. But we're not taking in wan
anyone out of the home that is caring for a child,
and we're saying you should be working, training, being educated,

(05:33):
or volunteering for eighty hours a month. That's an average
of twenty hours a week. We know it's not only
good for people's mental health, but it also helps us
build back America. There is a dignity and an honest
day's work and contributing to society, and we need everyone
doing their part. So if you're not, if you see
what I'm saying, if you are able bodied, you should
absolutely be working to that to get to receive government benefits.

(05:56):
So there's that discussion as well, and that is supported
by the vast majority of an Americans. But this is
more fear mongering by the Democrats. And the truth is
the very things are fear mongering on these are unsustainable.
The path in which we are spending we cannot continue
to do. And so if you want these programs to
be strengthened and improved and lasting, then then we have

(06:17):
to make sure that you take that fraud out or
you or where you know where there are people that
are not supposed to be on it, that you're able
to remove them as well.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah, they're kinds of fiduciary responsibility with the elected officials.
And I think that you're spot on with this, and
once again the Democrats spinning it. For sure. Katie's not
only working on the big beautiful bill this week in
the sent but also her childcare bill. Katie tell us
about what's happening there with this bill.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
So, look, we know that the cost of childcare and
the reliability of childcare is a problem from coast to coast.
When I'm traveling to state, it doesn't matter JP if
I'm talking to our largest manufacturer or I'm talking to
you know, small business mom and pop on main street
in rural Alabama. They say that this is an impediment

(07:02):
to people being able to re engage in their workforce.
So we just took a look at the data. Fifty
nine percent of stay at home and or part time
working parents say they want to re engage in the
workforce full time, but reliability or affordability of childcare is
an impediment to doing that. And JT, look, if you
haven't want the opportunity to stay home, I absolutely want

(07:24):
that for you. But if you want to be a
part of building back America. Now as we know, President
Trump is full steam ahead on that. You know, we
want to help you re engage in the workforce. So
when you have a young child zero to five, most
Americans are paying twenty two percent of their income for childcare.
Twenty two percent. So what this does is it puts

(07:45):
parents back in the driver's seat. I have Democratic colleagues
that wanted to create wait for it, yet another government entitlement.
Obviously we can't afford that, nor do we want the
federal government in charge of our children from zero to five.
So that's an absolute non starter for me. So when
you're thinking about this, this puts parents back in the
driver's seat. It's more of your money back in your

(08:06):
pocket so that you can make those choices for your child.
And it also it also incentivizes businesses, both large and small,
to be a part of the solution. So instead of
creating that another government entitlement when we're thirty six thirty
seven trillion dollars in debt, this solution is one that
puts parents back in the driver's seat, more money back
in their pocket, and encourages businesses to be a part

(08:28):
of it. There is possibility that we can get portions
of this bill, and it is it is gaining a
tremendous amount of steam JP that we can get portions
of this into the one big Beautiful bill, because when
you look at this, this helps hardworking people, This helps parents.
We are the party of parents, we are the party
of hard working individuals. And so creating an incentive it

(08:51):
in the tax structure that helps people, just like when
we were talking earlier other things, we're looking at no
tax on tips, no tax on social Security, no tax
on over time. Our thought is how do we help
hard working Americans better achieve the American dream? And so
that's what we're worth looking to do through this tax package.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Well, amen, my kids both have young kids, our grandkids.
You know we're in daycare obviously, and you know eight
hundred bucks per child you have a couple of kids
or three kids. The next thing, you know, you're basically believable.
It's another mortgage. I mean, it's like student alone data.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
It is jat and then look at this. We want
people to have more children. We look the data shows
that people like wait to up and say the cost
of childcare of a young child is something that deters
some people from obviously having enough to win. And look,
we want to create an environment where people, you know,
have a pathway to have more more children and feel

(09:44):
that they can do that. And this is one of
the things. Tackling this issue head on is one of
the ways that we can help hard working parents build
their family.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
All right, quickly, I want to get your thoughts on
these pardons. I know every president goes through this at
some point during their administration. They pardon people. That's their
right to do as president of the United States. But
some of them have got me scratching my head a
little bit. You know, chrisly knows best. Both of these
people convicted of fraud and tax evasion. Now I get it.
They went to jail and they've spent two years. They
were sending seven to twelve years. And I guess in

(10:13):
most cases, you know, you pay a fine and you
go for a year or so. But they got the
book thrown at him, so he pardoned them. I guess
that's the reasoning. Also the pardon of some of these.
You know, one rapper that seems to be a pretty
you know, bad guy. I forget his name, but what
is his name? NBA young boy, that's his name, Thank
you McKenzie. And I'm just thinking, oh, please, please not

(10:36):
Pete Diddy. Don't tell me he's going to do him next.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Look, I got an earful about this when I was home.
I had not watched the show. What is the show?
Tell me again, chrisly knows best? Chris right. And so
when I was home and running some errand somebody specifically
asked me about this and said they love the show
and did I know them? And dad? And so I'll

(11:04):
have to most definitely look into all of this. As
you well know, President Trump has the ability to pardon.
We saw Joe Biden pardon his own son, give blanket
pardons to multiple people. The liberal media chowse to kind
of just move off from that. But yet they want
to focus on all of the things that President Trump
is doing in this arena. But yet they won't focus

(11:24):
on him actually bringing border crossings down ninety five percent,
making sure that unaccompanied children that number is down ninety
eight percent, all of the big wins that we're having.
They don't want to focus on that. They want to
focus on the on the like you said, the chrisly
knows best. So I've got to get I've got to
get up on my pop culture obviously, so that I
can be able to answer these questions.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Well, you know, it's kind of funny that they got
just a blanket pardon like that. I'm like, what does
he do with the celebrities? What what's going on here?
I mean, I've never watched the show either, so I'm
not real familiar with it either. And You're right, you're
brought up Joe Biden just a blanket pardon for anybody
associated with him in the past or in the future.
It's like going to confession and telling the priest forgive me, father,

(12:08):
for I'm about to sin. I mean, what are you
doing here?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Absolutely, and think about that. I mean, that has been
swept under the rug the liberal media. If this had
been the other way around, there would be no article
that did not include that about Joe Biden and the
fact that he did that, I mean, that was unprecedented
and so many ways, and yet the liberal media continues

(12:31):
to look the other way and not talk about that
in the way that they should. So I feel like
we got to bring it up, Well, Katie, I got
to bring it up and keep putting in front of
the American people.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
I appreciate you being with me this morning, and good
luck with the big beautiful bill this week is you
guys are going to be wrestling some of these things
up there, and I'm confident we'll get to we are
compromising all.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Well, and I'll come back I'll come back on and
talk about it because we'll be doing it for the
next couple of weeks. I mean, we're going to dig
in and I mean if we have to go line
by line, that's what we're going to do. We understand
we have to achieve a result, but we've got a
lot of work ahead of us. So I'm excited to
get up there and get started.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Always enjoying and look forward to talking to you again.
Thank you, Katie.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
