Speaker 1 (00:00):
Life is a highway, especially if you are our next guest.
Tony and Veronica, Veronica Camera Della, thank you so much
for joining us again. Tony and Veronica. We had you
on I think it was Tuesday talking about the Saint
Vincent's Cross and you are taking that cross all the
way or you took that cross all the way from
Birmingham to Arizona and you made it right.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
We did, We made it.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Thanks for having us back on. Yeah, we were super excited.
The morning we talked, we were getting loaded up and
now that it's actually delivered, we had some issues on
the road and we were going to tell you that
the cross, the seventeen hundred miles between Birmingham and Arizona
were really.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Really rough.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
So that morning, actually before our interview, right after the interview,
we had to go find welder who could do little
spot welds so that we didn't take a cross with
cracks in it, so just the little spot welds where
the aluminum back had to be put on the cross.
So we were very fortunate to find someone out in
(00:59):
the middle of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
A mobile welder came and did the did the mobile
welding and he's like nope, you're not paying me.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
And right, he was a believer, and he said, no,
I don't want you to pay me for this. So
but the cross.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Made it to the Uh, to the village, and oh,
the people just received it so well. They sang hymns
in their native Navajo language to welcome us and Veronica.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
That cross that we sent out there. We were talking
about how big it was before. It's what about like
twelve feet high.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Nope, it's sixteen feet tall.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Sixteen feet tall.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, And I because I saw I've seen pictures of
it on the truck and by the way I've taken it,
You've sent me a bunch of pictures and we actually
used them to put together some commercials we run on
Channel six. And I actually used some of your video
in the chromo that we're running on Channel six today.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
UH.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
And you can see in the video, you can see
how big that crosses you took it. It was kind of
laying on its side, the way that Jesus had to
carry it over his shoulder as he walked to walk
up Golgatha, and and it's it's just it's so incredible
to imagine this thing. And of course I guess the
reason why you had to do that spot welding is
because it was never designed for what were It was
(02:11):
designed to go on a building and stay on a
building for the rest of us life. It wasn't designed
to be then taken back down transferred across the country.
So I could see how it would, you know, be
a little worse for the wear.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, yep, yep. And the people were so kind. They
were They actually had some large portion of the congregation.
It's a very small church. So they came and they
fixed us a meal. They call it a Navajo taco,
but it's like a flat bread, so it's a Navajo
flat bread.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
They literally made The women were there making the dough
balls and slapping it back and forth. And then they
had a like a we would say it's a big
turkey friar, but they had it outside and we sat
and ate under a big cotton massive cottonwood tree, and
they made the Navajo flat bread and this beautiful traditional
(02:57):
meal with the with the mountains in the but well,
I guess there are mesas in the background, and it
was just beautiful.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
As you drove that across the country, you had to
stop for gas and I'm sure there were people who
were interested, and they probably looked, and they probably took
selfies and all that kind of stuff. Did you ever
get to meet anyone?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Oh? All along the way we had great God encounters
and a couple of times people said, you know, I
know that cross. I was born in that hospital and
this was out.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
In the middle of the country, right And we did
have lots and lots of conversations, and what was really interesting,
and our whole point was having the opportunity to have
those conversations with people. Our RB outreach is called People
Must Know d RV and so our point is to
let people know how much God loves them. And the
(03:45):
one interesting thing was the day after we delivered the cross,
we were in the hotel parking lot taking off the
big sign that was on the side and putting a
new vinyl cover on that sign. And so we even
though we didn't have the cross with us, we got
to have one more conversation in the parking lot about
the cross because somebody was like, why are you taking
(04:07):
that sign off? So that was really neat.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
It's it's a it's a great story. And I always
like when here in Birmingham we can impact the rest
of the world from Birmingham, because I think there's a
lot of great stories to come out of Birmingham. We
heard from a lot of listeners who are they were,
They were coming out of the wool worsing, I'm a
Saint Vincent's baby, and I'm a Saint fan. All these
people who are Saint Vincent's babies, and they remember Saint
Vincent's and they remember. And the hospital is still there
(04:32):
by the way. The hospital had gone anywhere, but with
the cross on the side of.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
The hospital there. But the cross just has new life.
And we are actually in a place called Canyon, Texas now,
and God put us in this place. We're literally staying
in a bed and breakfast on the edge of the
Pallo Duro Canyon. And when we booked this place and
(04:55):
we showed up, the woman said, I know that God
sent you here. God sent missionaries to help me, so
we've been helping her property.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
You know, the only thing you guys could have done
any better is you should have saved the star. Remember Carraway,
Remember when Caraway Hospital and you can see that.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
We'll get it.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
I don't know where it is, but I don't think
it's in good shape anymore. The last I saw before
they tore down, I think it was in pretty rough shape.
But that would be really if we could find a
home for the Carraway Star as yes, you can drive
it across the country. Again. Well, guys, thank you so
much for sharing your journey with us, and uh for
people who want to find out more about your mission
(05:36):
or your trip, you have got a Facebook page, right.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
We do have a Facebook page which is just people
must Know RB. And then our website also has you
know a way to get there. It's people must Know
RB dot org. So yeah, thanks very much for sharing
us with your listeners, and certainly hope you have a
great day and a great weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Thank you very much. Tony and Veronica Camerala, thank you
so much for joining us on Alabama's morning news.
