Tanya J. Powers is joining us live from New York
City because Triple A has come out with their Year
in Travel predictions and there's a lot of people hitting
the holiday road. Tanya, what are they saying?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, it looks like Triple A says more than one
hundred and twenty two million Americans are going to travel
at least fifty miles from home this holiday season. That
is about two percent more than last year. Now that
when we're talking about the holiday travel period, we're talking
about the time between December twentieth and January first. Now,
of that one hundred and twenty two million, about eighty
nine percent are planning road trip. There are about I

think Triple A's is a little more than eight million
travelers are going to take domestic flights. So that's how
some of us are going. Matter of fact, it's going
to be the first time on record that the number
of domestic air travelers over the year in holiday period
will get above eight million, So that's kind of a
big deal. As well as far as how else we're going.
Traveled by other modes is expected to increase about nine percent.
(00:55):
Almost five million people are going to be traveling by bus, train.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Or crews and very drivable part of the country, Tanya,
So there's a lot of people who will travel by
road out of Birmingham. Do you have any indication as
to what gas prices are looking like nationwide right now?
Are they lower than usual?
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah, they are. Actually, they've been steadily going down since
about this time last year. I guess for the first
time in four years. The national average dropped below three
dollars a gallon this month, So that's also encouraging as well.
And maybe you know, in part driving some of no
pun intended, some of that you travel as far as
the folks who are going by vehicle instead of like car,

truck instead of a plane.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, because if the gas price is down, you might
as well get in the car and get on the road. Tanya,

The Brothers Ortiz
