Speaker 1 (00:00):
John Decker, our White House correspondent, joining us here in
just a minute. Yesterday after John had a great conversation
with the President, and the President really, you know, kind
of gave him some accolades talking about the fact that
they went to the same school and university at different times. Obviously,
but John gets called on by Caroline Levitt all the
time in the press room and has a great reputation

(00:20):
as a White House reporter, been doing it for years
and a number of administrations. But when you're dealing with
the bull in the china shop, that is one Donald Trump,
sometimes when the bull turns his head quick, anybody in
the path may catch the tip.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Of that horn. That's what happened to John yesterday.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Why didn't you invote this We've been winning all along.
Just see. I just want to ask you, why didn't
you invokee this law in your first term? You could
have taken in billions upon billions of dollars in your
first term, but you waited until your second. Yeah, because
in my first term I was finding lunatics like you
who were trying to do things incorrectly and inappropriately to
a president that was duly elected.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Wow, John, good morning, Welcome.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
In Good morning to you. Yeah, one week, I'm a
smart guy, and the next week he says that I'm
a lunatic. Look, I think that the president I enjoyed
covering the president of People always ask me, who's the
favorite president that you've covered, and I go back to
Bill Clin I say, with hands down, it's Donald Trump.
And it didn't go to my head when he called
me a smart guy. And I'm not mad at the

(01:21):
President for calling me a lunatic. You know, he didn't
like the question, and that's the way he reacts sometimes
when he doesn't like a question. The interesting thing about
President Trump is the next time I have an opportunity
to ask the President a question, the slate JT. It's
wiped clean. He'll call me the next time I see him,
just because he knows that I'm fair. He just didn't

(01:43):
like that question. And by the way, I think it
was a fair question. I always ask why are you
doing things now and you didn't do it in your
first time? Why is he getting ready birthright citizenship now?
But he didn't do it in his first terms? These
to me are just questions that I'd like to get
into the President's head, and for that particular question JT.
He did not like the question.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, I certainly understand, and I certainly understand Donald Trump.
He surprises all of us all the time. And to
lump you though in the with the other reporters that
are in the liberal media, I thought was unfair that
you're not on that side of the fence. You come
fair down the middle every time, whether it's a Republican
or Democrat, you ask good questions. I think that's why

(02:23):
Caroline Levitt calls on you so quickly.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Though.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yesterday's a big day and today is the final day. Yeah,
deadline for teriffs and things me moving in the right direction.
But there's some extensions being granted.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Extensions as it relates to two of our large trading partners,
one's Mexico. The President has a good relationship with Mexico's
president Claudia Scheinbaum, and also China. Those talks have been
going on for a number of months. But the President
announcing that some of our largest trading partners they will
have a fifteen percent tariff rate. We're talking about the EU,

(02:56):
South Korea, Japan fifteen percent across the board, and that
will lead to tens and tens and tens of billions
of dollars in revenue coming into the US treasury.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
You know, even Democrats as saying, wow, I mean, I
have to admit it. Things are moving very nicely with
the tariff discussions with the President and coming off these
you know shows on CNBC and liberal shows that normally
attack every turn you're looking for anything to bash the
President with on the tariff situation and the economy, they
are finding it tough to criticize him. Well, John, I

(03:28):
appreciate you, buddy, Thank you, and good luck in the
briefing room today.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I'm sure Caroline Lovett will be calling on you.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
And don't miss John's podcast on the iHeartRadio WAP, The
White House Briefing Room with John Decker.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Have a good weekend, John, Thank you.
