Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tanya Jay Powers joined us now our Fox correspondent. If
you've been eating garbage all summer long and you're feeling
bad about it, we're going to try and help clean
things up for you. Here's the CDC's got a new
report out, Tanya. This has got all kinds of goodies
and it well, it tastes good, but it's bad for us.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
What we guide, Well, the CDC recently did this report
on how much of our food is being consumed that
makes up you know, ulder processed foods. How many calories
are adults consuming that come from that category? What's in
that category? Things like sandwiches, burgers, pizza, baked goods, instant noodles,

(00:36):
ready to eat meals, sweet and drinks, that kind of stuff.
What it found overall is that fifty five percent of
the total calories consumed by Americans who are one year
old and up come from these ultra processed foods. And
when you break that down into age groups, it gets
a little bit more interesting. For adults only, the ultrossed

(00:57):
foods make up about fifty three percent of the total
calories consumed. But when you're looking at the kids, number
only eighteen and below that number is nearly sixty two
percent of the total calories consumed are coming from ultraprocessed foods.
It also breaks along income lines as well. Low income
adults consume more ultraprocessed foods than those with higher incomes.

(01:20):
And by the way they got this information, they collected
this data between August of twenty twenty one and August
of twenty twenty three, so that's the timeframe that they're
looking at when they you know, crunch these numbers and
came up with them.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, I mean, it really does apply to today. They
could have just as easily gotten the same data and
the results over the last six months and probably over
the last you know, twenty years. It's incredible how many
calories that are jung food And you're right, economically, in
those low income areas, it's more prevalent because processed foods
are cheaper. You know, it's a little pricey to eat

(01:55):
real healthy and you know, the cost of things right
now in a lot of areas in the grocer's or
are high. But you're right in the long term damage
and thank god RFK Junior is kind of coming in here,
because long term damage on this is you know, obese
of course, inflammation issues, all kinds of health problems down
the road, and then you got to you know, clean

(02:16):
things up and better to start early, earlier than later.
In Europe, you know, they don't do as much of this,
and they eat healthier and they probably are you know,
less obese than the United States of America. So with
this report out there, and you know, you do you
think there's going to be some changes coming to kind
of correct this with rfk's leadership.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Well, this is the according to what we're understanding, this
is apparently the first time that they've actually come up
with actual numbers as to you know, the percentage of
these ultra processed foods. It has been you know, the
high levels of consumption on this have been you know
guessed at for a long time. I mean it was

(02:56):
kind of you know understood, but not actually you know,
didn't have the data that they had actually gone through
and looked at until now. But you know, there's been
studies for a long time about you know, how ultra
processed foods contribute to things like you know, diabetes and
obesity and heart disease and all kinds of stuff. So
that that part is not you know, strange or new Uh.

(03:18):
The other thing, I will say, you mentioned the you know,
expense of groceries and food and you know that has
not come down. That is, those are still high. Anybody
that's bought groceries recently knows that. The other thing, when
you're looking at this, it's not just the fact that
it's cheaper for you know, people who are more on
a on a tighter budget, but also accessibility to healthier

(03:43):
foods is a huge issue. It's not just the price
of it. That's the price is prohibitive for a lot
of things, but it's the access. You know, the food
deserts are a real thing. Do you know, is there
a you know supermarket that carries fresh produced you know nearby?
Is how hard and that to get to, you know
if you especially if you don't have a car. I
mean there's a whole lot of different, you know, reasons

(04:05):
for that that have to be taken at comparation as well.
But these numbers are you know, I don't know if
anybody expected it to be this high, but that's apparently
where they stand according to the CBC.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
It's kind of scary. Tanya, thank you for the update.
I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Tian.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
You Jaypowers, our Fox correspondent, seventy eighteen, Now Alabama's morning evenings.
By the way, if you're looking to clean up real
quick for you, Yeah, potato chips, here's some things to
get rid of. Just take it out of your diet
right now. We know they're not a health food, but
they're easy to reach for an overdue you know, when
we're hungry, nice little snack, But potato chips. N it's
high blood pressure, full of saturated onhealthy fats, and you

(04:40):
know salt I mean gosh, sodas in general, whether it's
sugary sodas or diet sodas, they're bad for you either way.
Just start drinking more water alcohol not one zero, not
an inch, not a centimeter of benefit for you. Oh
what about red wine in your heart? Well, the components
of red wine are being stud I mean minus the alcohol,

(05:01):
but healthy wise, not good for you. Sweetened coffee drinks,
my gosh, those things have more sugar in them than
an actual cheesecake, you know, pile of whipped cream. Stay
away from those black coffee right. And frozen meals I
mean loaded with sodium and saturated fatch, which can cause

(05:23):
increased blood pressure and all that so chips, sodas, alcohol, frozen,
processed foods, no eat clean. It'll get better.
