Speaker 1 (00:14):
This says the Uncle Hen Ray Show here on News
Radio seventy ten WNTM News headlines coming up. In ten minutes.
Before we get to the news headlines, I'm going to
cover a couple of stories here. One of them is
Halloween is coming up Friday, and the Alabama Law Enforcement

(00:37):
Association has Halloween safety tips for the citizens. Because we
the citizenry, need the government to tell us how to
act at all times, so let's listen together, the Alabama
Law Enforcement Association sent one of their guides onto the
TV to give out some Halloween safety tips. I found

(00:59):
this on w VRC's website. WBrC is a stepsister station
to Fox ten up in Birmingham. Let's listen together as
we get some safety tips from our state government.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
All need to be on the lookout for trick or
treaters as we drive through neighborhoods. But parents are kids.
There's also some things you can do to keep everyone
safe while enjoying the night. Captain Jeremy Briquette with the Alabima.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Captain Jeremy Briquette. I love this man's Southern accent. I
don't care if it's Halloween safety tips or whatever. It is.
He's gonna tell us. I love listening to him because
of them the upcoming guests accent, So let's enjoy his
Southern accent together.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
From the Law Enforcement Agency joined us now by zoom
with some pointers. Good dad with us this morning, sir, Hey,
thank you so much for having us. Yeah, let's start
with the parents there and what they can do to
make sure that their kids when they go out trick
or treating they're safe.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Well, one of the things that we really continue to
drive home, and these are things that people often don't
think about, is the parent to child ratio. So that's
one of the things that's just.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Really Now, this sounds advanced, doesn't this sound advanced for
the state of Alabama? A parent to child ratio? Do
Alabamians I don't even know. Am I familiar with ratios?
I'm not sure?

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Is the parent to child ratio? So that's one of
the things that's just really important, and that's the reality.
You can have a really good plan in place, but
if you don't have an appropriate number of personnel, appropriate
number of parents.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
And a person proper Halloween now involves personnel, not just well,
I guess if you're a parent you're counted as personnel
in the ratio place.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
But if you don't have an appropriate number of personnel,
appropriate number of parents, an appropriate number of gardens out
there with you to help execute that plan, that's where
things starting to go sideways. You know, again, we want
everybody to go out have a safe and happy Halloween,
which you really need to think about hispanic control. Hey,

(03:03):
your parents, can you really manage six, seven, eight small
children in your neighborhood at night during lowlight?

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Hol Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:11):
I love his accent. Yeah. Now, modern Halloween requires a
plan that you execute with the proper personnel. Now back
in the day, now i've taken a child trick or treating,
I didn't. I don't know that I had. I know
that I had the right personnel, but I don't know
that I had a plan that I executed other than

(03:34):
make sure the child doesn't get run over. All right,
back to the execution of our plans with personnel.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Running off on you, You know that you don't want
that to running to the next house and you lose
them all of a sudden. What about that in terms
of making those kids more visible and to the drivers.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Oh yes, reflecting materials could not be more important to us.
I mean, that's one of the things you see us.
It's something that we do, it's something we use and
in our line of work. I mean you see troopers
on the roadway, first responders, we wear reflective material because
again that just enhances that visibility. It gives us a
better chance to be seen by those drivers that may

(04:13):
not be paying attention. Now we've talked about this, motors
should be fully aware that you're going to have small
children out. There's a sign for that, for them to
have the situation awareness. I mean, it is Halloween and
you already do a lot of neighborhoods, a lot of CITs,
they do pre Halloween dates, So so things are really
going to start to happen at beginning tonight and going

(04:34):
through the weekend. Good point, but it's just so so
important to make sure you have those conversations with those
children and have some really firm rules in place, especially
for the small kids.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, then drivers should, as you mentioned, we all got
to be aware sometimes those kids will dart out of
parked cars and you've got to be looking out for that.
As we wrap up here, obviously some adults may be
going to some Halloween parties, and I'm sure you have
some reminders.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
And look, do we what has happened to Halloween? Where
all the adults decide they want to they want to
be children, and now the adults have to have their
own adult that just just debauchery involved in this. Isn't
that terrible that adults have taken taken over this and
have made it more about themselves? Could we? When I

(05:21):
was Look, I'm sorry to interrupt this with my own
little particular irritation here, but I just remember when I
was coming up, When you graduated from high school, you
became an adult and you and you did adult stuff,
and you got a job, and you found a place
to live, and you paid your renter, you bought a house.
You you became an adult when you when you got

(05:44):
out of high school, you became an adult. And now
these adults, they're they're in their thirties and forties going
out like their kids. What happened to adulthood?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Here's for them? If some adult beverage is served.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Oh well, it doesn't matter what the festivities are. What
event is if you go out and you consume ilcolic
beverage or take any substance that impairs you. Absolutely, you
don't need to get behind the wheel. So again, just
have that plan in place. Hey, we want people to
go out and enjoy themselves. You just need to do
it responsibly because again, if you're stopped by a trooper,

(06:18):
we're gonna have zero tolerance for that, regardless of it's Halloween, Christmas,
whatever the event.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Is, all right, captain, as we wrap up here, all right,
all right, So if even if you the adult, are
going out to act like a drunk child or something,
you heard what he said, have a plan and execute
it with proper personnel.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
All right, out of time for the ol' Clannary show.
Thank you for listening to it. As they say in Shareland,
have a good one, and as they say in Theodore,
take it easy.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
All right Later
