Speaker 1 (00:17):
It Sysney Uncle Henry's show here on news Radio seventy
ten WNTM. Thank you for listening. Now, in this segment
of the show, we've got the executive director of the
Greater Gulf State Fair, Josh Woods, on the telephone line
with us. Now, Josh, I know you're just you're so
anxious to talk about mobile politics, but I hope you
(00:38):
don't mind. I'd rather stick to the fair, do you mind?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
That's fine with me. We had a great day yesterday
a council and I was fitting in to the rapping
of the Stents administration. But I definitely love talking about
the fairs. I do not mind doing that as well.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah, well, you you live and breathe a fair. It's
a huge part of your life all year long being
out there at the rounds because because you're always playing
and I'm sure every month of the year. Uh, this year,
how's it going at the fair? This year?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
It's going really great. Uh. Obviously we closed on Sunday.
The weather just wasn't cooeperating and that's mobile for you,
U's mobile weather. But you know we reopened Monday and
where we've we've hit the ground running. Uh. Unfortunately though,
My only complaint is that due to my carnival and
my food vendors, I've had to practice my semi professional
(01:28):
plumbing skills. It seems like that if there's a water
stick sticket sticking up out of the ground, they're gonna
find it. So yeah, that's a little known fact. I'm
a semi professional plumber.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Well, that's that is one of those great professions. If
you ever need to transition out of running the grounds
and getting into something else, plumbing is always needed no
matter what, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I mean I can only glue things together, but I
don't have to plumb a house. But I can fix
this picgot all right?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
So for the people listening that haven't brought the family
out the fair yet, in this and we've got more
fair to come, talk about ways that people can save
cash going to the fair.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yes, sir, so obviously, you know, I mean I'm coming
from me and Christ. Then we have three boys, and
every time we do something it costs a good chunk
of chain. So really, the board directors and our staff,
we've really made a cautious, our conscious decision to try
to make it the most affordable fare that we've ever had.
So you know, normally normally during the weekdays, we've lowered
(02:32):
our ticket cost at the ticket office to five dollars
and ten dollars, so five for kids, tend for adult.
And then also too, we've implemented some savings days or
some some specials that we have. So last night was
Sentry Bank Family Night, so that was an excellent way
to save. But tonight we have we have what we're
calling fair Share Night, and what that is is if
you bring three can goods that we're going to donate
(02:53):
the food bank, you get a kid's ticket for three
dollars or an adult ticket for six Tomorrow night. In
order to kind of help with the old old pocketbook
as well, we have the five and ten dollar tickets
obviously at the gate, but if you come in, we'll
give you a three dollars a mission discount on that
five and ten. And then also you'll find us in
the front concourse area there the front area walking in,
(03:15):
we'll sell you a three dollars it's a beautiful cup.
We'll sell you a three dollars beautiful cup. And then
also everywhere on the midway, all of our Coca Cola
products that we serve, they'll there'll be three dollars, So
thanks to Coke for sponsoring three dollars Thursday. That's a
great way to save. And then we wrap up the
week's elf with five dollars Fridays. That's five dollars mission
every night. And then we roll into the weekend where
(03:36):
we're just jam packed full of all kinds of fun
stuff to do at the fair.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah. I love the what you've got going tomorrow night.
I mean that is uh, we all when you go
to the fair and you see all the fair food,
you want to sample it, but you also have to
watch the wallet. And I love what you're doing with
the cup. That's going to help a lot of folks.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
It is, you know, the easiest way. Obviously, I don't
make one dollars for a living. I don't make turkey legs,
so I know there's a lot of costs when it
comes to what the food product is and what your
buying is. But one thing, thanks again, thanks to Coca Cola,
we've been able to offer refills and coke products for
three dollars, so you know all across from Midway, that'll
that'll save you some money. Say, if you at the
(04:17):
very least if you want to come ride some rides
and you just get thirsty. It's not gonna break the
break the pocket over.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
There, all right, So what about entertainment? You having any music?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
We are, So tomorrow night's at third Night. We have
Corey Smith. He's a big Georgia Bulldog fan. You know,
I questioned that kind of choice in life, but he's
a big bulldog fan. He's come to join us. You know,
he plays frequently over in golf Shores and at least
once or twice a year. So we're happy that he's
going to come join us on the kind of wrapping
up what he's doing as far as we're in. So
(04:48):
he'll play at six o'clock tomorrow night on our son
South stage. I'm excited about that. But then also too,
you know, one of the one of the cool uncle
Henry and I've had actually my marketing coordinator here parents
came to last weekend basically didn't write any rise, just
did all of our shows and they spent six hours
with us. So really for that cost of the emission ticket,
I got everything from downs to camels for you. And
(05:11):
then again, you know, the rodeo comes this weekend, so
clowns camels and rodeo if you come on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Well, you know what, it's funny. You mentioned that a
friend of mine went out to the fair and they
put up all these videos of a dog show and
it looked I mean, I thought, why have I never
seen this book? I guess I need to pay more
attention to all the different things that you have going
on out there, because you do have great entertaining shows
(05:37):
as well as the fun rides we do.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So we have great partners. That's that is Hog Dignity Dog,
so that would be a hog and some dogs and
then also some camels. Those folks are new with us
this year. They'll they'll spend this year with us. And
again we try to rotate all of our entertainment up
so to keep it fresh. We do keep the racing pigs,
which is an incredible show itself. But Hog to get
(06:01):
a Dog, Yeah, it's it's an amazing show. And again,
you know, we have everything from like I said, clowns
to camels, and you know, we have a hypnotist. We
have a glass blower who pretty much great way to
grab some food, sit down and watch the guy make creations.
He does an excellent job, agra magic, we have an illusionist.
We have everything so really hotly. If you show up
(06:22):
at the fair and you just want to watch shows,
I got you for six hours.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Okay, So the fair it runs through this Sunday, Is
that correct?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yes, sir, it runs through this Sunday. Well, we open
every day during the week. So Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at four,
close at ten, and we're opening till midnight on Friday,
open at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Now, have I if I were to go out there
tomorrow night and see the music or maybe see a hypnotist,
or some dogs and pigs and all that kind of stuff.
Have I missed the livestock? Is there is there any
livestock opportunities left? If I just wanted to be around
livestock just to admire them.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
There is. So we we obviously were the fair, so
we showcase some animals and uh, last night was a
great night. We had the four h and f f
A or the FFA and four h hog sale. So
I'm not gonna lie to you. Councilman. Rentals went a
little overboard. He now owns four pigs, four hogs. I
don't know what, but I don't know what he's gonna
do with them, but we still have showcase cattle in
(07:25):
the barns. Most of our compitions when it comes to
the comes to the kids, the four AH and the
FFA students, those are those are ever with. But we
still have display cattle. You can still see the prize
winning heifer and steer. And I don't know what what
counsel Renalds did with those pigs. So what to dive
into that?
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Now? See, we weren't going to talk any city politics
in this interview, but now you've dropped a bombshell revelation
that Ben Reynolds has bought pigs. Now I'm wondering are
there going to be swine ordinances being put together and
fighting over swine swine policies.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
I don't know. All I know is there was very
grateful four H kids, that four H and f f
A kids, And I did ask council memor Rental's daughters
where they were going to stay. So I don't know
what the sleeping arrangements ended up with the pig was,
all right, I don't know who. I don't know whose
room the pig is. The pigs were sharing, but I
don't know. Congratulations to him and thrills, and I hope
(08:23):
he was able to tell his wife about it.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
All right, Well, Josh Woods, we're out of time here.
Where can we get more information online about the fair?
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yes, sir, a Greater Growth state Fair dot com And
obviously we're on Facebook and Instagram and any social media
things and just find us. You can find more all
this information and more information and buy tickets at Greater
Growth state Fare dot com.
Speaker 1 (08:42):

Speaker 2 (08:45):

Speaker 1 (08:47):
