Speaker 1 (00:25):
This is the Uncle Henry Show here on News Radio
seventy ten WNTM. Thank you very much for listening to
the Uncle Henry Show. I appreciate that very very much. Now,
in this half hour of show, we're going to get
to some news items. The first news item these are
some of my favorite news items. It's a story about
somebody turning one hundred years old. I love these kind

(00:47):
of stories when somebody turns one hundred years old, and
all around the world they have people turning one hundred
years old. They send out reporters to do news stories
and they always ask the person what is the secret?
What is their sacred to a long life? And sometimes
the elderly person turning a hundred or over one hundred,

(01:07):
they'll have a funny answer like I drink whiskey every day,
or I like to eat a cigar every day. You
know weird stuff like that, I eat an onion and
smoke a or I smoke an onion and eat a cigar.
You know that kind of stuff. Well, we've got one
of these stories. Person turning one hundred years old from
fair Hope, Alabama. Yes, a lady named Dorothy. I think

(01:30):
Dorothy Booth dot Booth. Here is the story from Fox ten.
Let's listen together because at some point in the story,
I know they're going to ask her what is the
secret to living to be one hundred? And I want
to hear what her answer is. So let's listen together
to the story about the one hundred year old Lady Night.
Family and friends gathering fair hope for a very special someone. Yeah,

(01:53):
Dorothy Booth celebrating her what Dorothy Booth, Happy birthday.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
One hundredth birthday, and Earlea Rivera got to be there
for the celebration. She has been talking about this once
she found out about it. Every single day we've laughed

(02:18):
about it. She's talked about it so much because that's
not really my mother. She's usually pretty generic about things.
But she's been looking forward to today also.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
It's been wonderful. I just Katie wouldn't explain. It's been great.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Dorothy Booth, also known as Miss Stott, is celebrating a milestone.
She's one hundred years old. Family and friends wouldn't miss this,
sharing stories and fond memories. Being around for a century.
We had to ask, what's her secret?

Speaker 5 (02:48):
All right?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
We have to ask. You can't do a birthday story
about somebody celebrating a birthday of one hundred or older
without asking the question. You gotta ask, all right, she
gonna say I have a glass of wine every now?
Is she gonna say I drink castor is it something
as simple as Jaraitol, which I've got relatives that have

(03:13):
got me drinking Jaraitol. I don't know if I'm gonna
live to be a hundred, but I'm taking it. By
the way, that was not a commercial for it. I'm
just saying, what's it gonna be? What's your secret? She's
made it a hundred years. What's the secret? Is it
eating beef jerky? What could it be? All right, let's
listen together. What is the secret to living to be
a hundred?

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Being around for a century? We had to ask what's
her secret?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Attitude? I think I think I have a good attitude?

Speaker 1 (03:41):
All right, A good attitude? All right? Well that's see now,
see that makes sense. It's not gonna make national news.
You know, when somebody turns a hundred and something years
old and they say I like to drink whiskey, Well
then they'll make national news and they'll put it on
the TV all over the country. But good attitud is
there anything? Maybe the whiskey comes in after the attitude,

(04:03):
or maybe the attitude is shaped by consumption of whiskey.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
What's her secret attitude?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I think. I think I have a good attitude and
love people. I love people, love.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Right, loving people. That's good. A good attitude and loving
people for everybody here still active.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Miss dot loves to play the piano.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I think she can read a little bit of sheet music.
But she'll sit down and listen to a song, and
then a couple of days later she'll say, listen to this,
I just.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Learned it, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
So she really does a good job.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
She can still do it there she is.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
I play solid night. I make mistakes, but people of
the older people don't care. I just go through it.
Buck In.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Music is a passion of misdots. She was also quite
the athlete in her day in.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
By the way, music is a drug. That is an
opinion of mine personal people. But music can be like
a drug. You know that that's true. You can see
music can change people's moods, get people's hearts bumping higher,
and hire you can it can it can slow your
pulse down. Music is drug all right? Back to the

(05:24):
story no Whiskey mentioned.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Is a passion of Miss Thoughts. She was also quite
the athlete in her day. In high school, she was
one of only two students selected to kick off a
football game.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
She always liked to play sports. She liked to play pool,
ping pong, basketball. You know, I've got two other brothers,
and she was always in the yard with us, ready
to play her whole life.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Missdot grateful for a long, fulfilling life.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
A new guard from the beginning. He's been with me.
And I had wonderful parents, and I had a good
husband and three wonderful sons. I've just had a good life.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
When asked about the celebration.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Been wonderful. I couldn't have been any better. And I
enjoyed it one hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
In fair Hope, Leam rivera Fox ten News.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Now, wasn't that nice? What a nice story?

Speaker 6 (06:23):
Like?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Hearing about that? And it is enjoyable. It has been
for me anytime I've had an opportunity to talk to
people of those advanced years, and you can tell they've
still got their faculties, they've still got their mind. It
is always such a pleasure. I've got a couple of
relatives that are close to one hundred. They're both ladies.

(06:47):
One of them I think is ninety eight, that both
might be ninety eight. And it's you know, it's it's
interesting that you go visit somebody and it's Earl Harbor Day,
which happened recently, and I was able to say to
my relative, hey, you remember Pearl when they attacked Pearl Harbor,

(07:08):
and oh yes, And then they start telling stories about
oh yeah, we were living up in Birmingham back then,
and it was before so and so was born and
I was helping mama in the kitchen and all this
is about. You know, I love it. I love hearing
all those stories and really enjoy talking to people of
that age when they have got their minds left. All right,

(07:30):
he well, happy birthday again, one hundred birthday to dot
Booth there in fair Hope, Alabama. All right, let's see
what else can we get to. We got to oh,
I've got to go to a break here. Don't have
time to get into another news item before we go
to break. I just want to remind you that you
can listen to previous episodes of The Uncle Henry Show

(07:51):
as a podcast. Podcast is available for you on the
iHeartRadio app. Just look up Uncle Henry's Show on the
iHeartRadio app and you'll find lots and lots of previous
episodes of the Uncle Henry Show to listen to there.
In fact, the iHeartRadio app has been redesigned for twenty

(08:12):
twenty five to be more like a car radio, and
that means you can set presets in the app for
your favorite radio stations or your favorite podcasts. So you
can set a pre set in the app for News
Radio seven to ten WNTM, or any other radio station
you like. You can also set a pre set for
the Uncle Henry Show or any other podcast you like

(08:34):
and find it right away when you open up the app.
That's the iHeartRadio app for the Uncle Henry Show. All right,
going to take a time out, and I got more
news items I want to get to as the Uncle
Henry Show continues. But first let's take that break, take
the dad gum break the OLKL Henry Show. Here on

(09:15):
News Radio seventy ten WNTM, we have news headlines coming
up in ten minutes. If you can make it through
this segment of the show, you get some news headlines.
Let's see, I've got a news item. This is holiday travel.
A lot of travel is expected. I saw the stats.

(09:35):
I've already forgotten the stats, but expected to be one
of the busiest. You know, gas prices are down, just
many many millions of people are expected to travel over
the next couple of weeks in the United States of America.
And I've got some holiday travel safety tips from the
Alabama law enforcement people. If you listen to the Uncle

(09:55):
Hentory Show at this time on a regular basis, have
heard me play other safety tips and things from this
guy that works for the state of Alabama. He's got
a magnificent Southern accent. He had the Halloween the Halloween
safety tips that we talked about for days on end
where he was talking about having a proper plan and

(10:17):
having the proper parent child ratio and having the proper
personnel to execute you playing for Halloween. That's the same guy.
So let's listen together. This is from w SFA, a
stepsister station to FOXTN WSFA, interviewing this law enforcement guy

(10:38):
with a magnificent Southern accent. The only reason I want
to hear this is because of his accent.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
This holiday. If you plan to hit the road this
Christmas season, a Leah has some safety tips you need
to hear. Joining us now with more as Captain Jeremy
Burkett and people.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Are Captain Jeremy Burkett. I got to remember his name
because I love his accent.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
Gearing up for the Christmas vacation. This is the last
week of school for a lot of kids. They're about
to get out and head out. What do people need
to know before they even put their key in their admission?

Speaker 6 (11:05):
Well, and that's the perfect way to start it off, Sally.
And that's what we want people to understand, especially as
you start talking about holiday travel, because that's very specific.
And again, just as we see the weather, it can change,
you know. And our first little thing that we're sharing
for our first twelve days of Elia safety is no before.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
You oh, twelve days of Eliah safety. So the State
of Alabama in Aliyah, Alabama law Enforcement Agency that got
the twelve days of safety or something like that, or
let's listen.

Speaker 6 (11:38):
Little thing that we're sharing for our first twelve days
of Elia safety is no.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Before you go, which no before you go things.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
Really make sure your vehicle's prepared. So especially if you're
going to drive out of the state of Alabama and
you may be going up north or something like that.
Be prepared for ice, Be prepared for that snow making,
be prepared for ice. Sure that vehicle has got all
the things that it.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Needs to be prepared for Yankees and nasty Yankee attitudes.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
Used to have in that emergency roadside hit. And especially
if you've got children, or even if you're going to
be doing a family trip where now you're reinstalling car seats. Hey,
we're taking car seats out of one vehicle putting them
into another vehicle. Those are the little things that you
really need to pay attention to, especially ahead of holiday travel.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
The little things are the big things. If someone finds
themselves in an accident, are stuck on the side of
the road, what do they need to do? What should
they not do?

Speaker 6 (12:30):
Well, one of the things that you need to do
is make sure you're actually out of the roadway.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
So if you have by the way, Unfortunately I can't
show you the video. There's video going along with this
and radio. For all the advances we've made through the years,
we still haven't figured out how to add pictures to radio.
But we're working on it. We're doing our best trying
to figure it out. If I could show you the

(12:56):
video WSFA while they're doing these safety tips about car
seats and whatever else he's gonna say, they're showing just
really congested traffic on multi lane interstates. It's causing me
stress just looking at the video as stressful.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
Like a mechanical failure, a flat tire. There's some type
of emergency, some type of emergency in the vehicle. You
need to identify a safe location, getting the vehicle as
far off the road as possible, and then call nine
one one, call nine one one, and even if you're
not sure if it's not an emergency or not. Hey,
that's why you've got a community of first responders. There's

(13:36):
some amazing dispatchers out there. They can help talk you
through that.

Speaker 5 (13:40):
What safety items do you recommend that drivers keep in
the car?

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Oh, okay, this is going to be good. I bet
he's going to say flashlight. You know when I know
Buford has tried to teach me. By the way, Buford,
if you're listening, I was going to go buy one
of them flashlights you suggested to me in a voicemail.
My wife went out and got me a gigantic flashlight

(14:06):
and I think you'd be proud of it because I
could use it as a weapon if I needed to.
It's that big you could bludgeon somebody with it. Back.
What items do we need in our car? Responders?

Speaker 6 (14:18):
There are some amazing dispatchers out there. They can help
talk you through that.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
What safety items do you recommend that drivers keep in
the car?

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Oh, number one? Well, really not necessarily.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
I can't.

Speaker 6 (14:28):
I can't talk enough about tires. Make sure you've got
some good tires, especially this time of the year, especially
if you think you're going somewhere where you're going to
run into ice and snow. IM sure they're properly in faith.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Make sure you have good tires.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
But inside the vehicle, as we're seeing that cold weather,
you got to have blankets. You need to have an
emergency roadside kit that includes an air pump, because even
if you have a spare tire and you have a blowout,
if it's not properly inflated, it's not going to do
you any good, even if first responders show up. Even
if a first responder shows up and your tires that
you have underinflated, it's not doing you any good. It's

(15:03):
not doing them any good. Now you may have to
call a tow truck or something like that, so make
sure those things are there. And then it's nothing wrong
with having snacks and water, especially you may be on
side the road for an extending period of time having
those things, especially if you've got a lot of people in.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
The vehicle with you, because if you have children.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
All right, he didn't mention flashlight. I think I'm gonna
have to contact his superior officer at a leah. All right, well,
out of time with this edition of the Uncle Henry Show.
Thank you. I really appreciate you listening to this. I
really do this job. Is the paycheck is still appreciated.
As they say in Sharland, have a good one, as

(15:43):
they say in Theodore, take it easy, all right Later
