Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Uncle Henry Show weekday afternoons from five till seven.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Oh god, your uncle, where has this mont gone?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (01:09):
This is the Uncle Henry Show here on news radio
seven ten WNTM. Yes, I'm I know you're you're still shocked.
I'm still here. But yes, I'm still here, still doing
the show. And I thank you for tuning in just
(01:33):
to see if I'm here once again. Here we are together,
me and you trying to figure out what is going on?
What is going on in the world around us. There's
a lot going on in the world around us. We
can talk about all that stuff. If you'd like to
call in with something, feel free to bring it in.
As long as your topic is not pornographic, feel free
(01:54):
to call in two five one four seven nine two
seven two three. That's two five one four seven nine
two seven two three email address, Uncle Henriet. iHeartMedia dot Com.
I got plenty of things I want to bring up
to you today that I've been thinking about. Before I
get to any of that, though, I had a phone
call from a listener stuck in traffic. Yes, somebody using
the voicemail while they were stuck in traffic. I believe
(02:16):
let's let's find out.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Brow that up and happy excuse me October to you buddy.
Happy October, yes, thiryad October, one of our favorite months
of the year. Sitting here on the bridge, headed back
from mobile doing seven miles per hour.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Right now, the.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Marquee above the bridge reads crash in the left lane
three point nine miles ahead. It's see and I am well,
I ain't made it to the battleship. Just did have
a or have let's see well, regardless it looks like
(03:04):
that three point nine miles, it might as will be
one hundred and thirty nine miles. It's gonna take a
minute to get there. So light and mobile on the
Bay Bridge. Roll tidrow, roll tidrow.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Sixty eight year old Chrystal Westlocksley getting caught in some
traffic this afternoon on the Bayway, and I want to
thank sixty eight year old Christopher using his time on
the Bayway to do something productive, which was called the
Uncle Henry Show voicemail and Philip see, we've already filled
up time in the segment from that one call that
(03:40):
really will have no significance in our lives. It still
took up time on the program, and that's important. The
voice fmound number two five one two one six, nineteen
seventy six. And you think about getting stuck in traffic
on the Bayway. It's happened to many of us through
the years, as are our politicians of the past did
(04:00):
not adequately anticipate the volume of traffic that we would
get going across that Bay, and so they never provided
the proper infrastructure. All those politicians of the past. That
was also lousy because they just didn't provide the proper infrastructure.
And so we've had to deal with their incompetence through
the years by trying to figure out what to do
(04:21):
with our time while we're sitting in traffic on the
Bayway in a traffic jam. Now, I many people get frustrated.
Many people get very frustrated and upset because they're on
their way somewhere important. Maybe they're even passing a gallstone
or something, and they need to get somewhere where they
can more easily pass it. I understand your frustration, but
(04:45):
there are things you can do. You can sit in
your vehicle or just put along at seven miles per hour,
And I guess the best use of that time would
be to pray to the Lord you could pray to
the Lord that everybody on the Bayway gets to their journey,
and that the Lord brings harmony and peace to the world,
and that he heals all the diseases in the world,
(05:06):
and that the politicians of the future will not make
the terrible decisions that the politicians of the past have made.
As we have seen all around us. We live among
those bad decisions. So prayer would be number one. You
pray while you're on there. You can meditate, you can
count your blessings. There's certainly things to be I mean,
(05:26):
if you are able to navigate a vehicle, you have
some level of health, so there's a lot. There's a
lot you can do. You can while you're stuck in
your traffic And now you can add to the list
behind prayer and expressions of gratitude. You can also call
the Uncle Henry Show voicemail at two five one two
(05:46):
one six, nineteen seventy six, whenever you're stuck in those
traffic jams. Chris, thank you for that. And it's only
we're led to believe that allegedly abridge will be built.
I told you that I've already met contractors that have
moved here to work on this thing. So eventually the
eventually it'll be a different type of traffic jam, I'm sure,
(06:09):
and this will be something that we share together, this
memory of those days where we had to sit in
that traffic. Now, what can we get into here? There
was a party last night. I saw this party on
Fox ten News. It was yesterday was the fortieth anniversary
of the Zogby Act that created the form of government
(06:32):
for the City of Mobile, and I heard the party
announced it yesterday's Mobile City Council meeting, and it kind
of confused me because I didn't remember being invited as
a citizen, as a taxpayer that pays for the government,
I don't remember being invited to a party being held
for the current and former elected officials and bureaucrats. Let's
(06:54):
hear it. I believe this is Fox ten reporting on
this party held at the the Mobile History Museum, the
original city hall down there.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Today marks forty years since the Zogbie Act that's what
reshaped Mobile's city government. Tonight, former and current city leaders gathered.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Former and current city leaders gathered at a party.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
At the History Museum of Mobile to celebrate the anniversary
before the Zogbie Act the port city was governed by
a three members city Commission, which collectively shared power. The
nineteen eighty five law developed Mobile's current council mayor form
of government, allowing for a more diverse political scene, ensuring
districts were given a more powerful voice. Sam Jones, the
(07:36):
first African American mayor of Mobile, was one of the
former mayors who celebrated tonight.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
So I think it really is something that really changed
the whole landscape of the city.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
It gave people individual representatives of that particular district, gave
voices to people who never had a voice in the past,
and that were a lot of people who worked very
hard on this. Oh, I would say almost twenty years
to get it to the point of being a piece
of legislature.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
All right, So there was a nice party for former
elected officials and bureaucrats. Now I'm going to make an assumption.
I know I'm not supposed to, but I'm going to
assume that private money paid for this. I'm going to
have to make that assumption because if it was tax dollars,
then that would be of course outrageous. It would be
(08:20):
outrageous if tax dollars paid for a party for politicians
and bureaucrats that the actual taxpayer was not allowed to attend.
That would be I'm going to assume that it was
private money. Certainly no current politicians would would agree to
(08:44):
use tax dollar to do a private party for politicians.
So whoever the private donor was that paid for that party. Congratulations,
(09:10):
this is the Uncle Henry Show. It's five twenty. I'm
Uncle Henry. In case you were wondering if I was
filling in for him, I am Uncle Henry. News headlines
are coming up in ten minutes from Fox ten and
from Fox Radio National News. So if you crave news headlines,
if you can just make it through this segment of
(09:31):
the show, you will be rewarded by professionals reading news
headlines to you. It is a new month October. Sixty
eight year old Chris left a voicemail saying, it's Rocktober.
I just want you to know that I'm not participating
in October. I'm not I don't rock during October. Now
(09:51):
let me get to it. I've got a lot of
things that I would like to talk about, but I've
also got some voicemails and I like to hear what
I like to hear what you've got to say, because
already know what I would say. I'm more interested in
what you would say. Let me say one thing before
I go to voicemails. One thing. I want to tell
you what what has been distracting today? Because I've had
I've had I've been very blessed today to have a
(10:13):
very busy day doing the ninety five KSJ show, and
I had to go out and meet with a with
a doctor today and record a special Ask the Expert
interview with a doctor that's going to air later today.
And just been all over the town, you know, meeting
with some business people here and there. Very blessed to
(10:35):
be busy. But I've been distracted. I've been super distracted
today because I find myself wanting to go on social
media to see if President Trump has created a new
meme or shared a new meme of Hakeem Jeffreys wearing
(10:57):
a sombrero. Now, I don't know if you're following this US,
but President Trump shared a meme this week of Chuck
Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries at a press conference, and somebody
decided and this government shut down. There's a big argument
over whether or not illegal aliens should get their medical
(11:22):
care paid for by the taxpayer. And somebody created a
meme with Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and having a
big mustache, and this outraged Hakem Jeffries. It outraged, and
he went on to MSNBC to complain about it, how
(11:43):
bigoted it was. It was bigoted. The wrong hat. Now
you may not realize this. You might be like me.
I'm ignorant of the modern rules of what you can
and cannot do, and I didn't realize some hats. You
can put one hat on somebody on on social media
and it's okay. But if you put the wrong hat,
(12:03):
you put the wrong hat on him. What are you?
Are you human putting the wrong hat on somebody? Well
sorbody put a sombrero on him, and oh boy, oh boy,
they were mad. Well then that, by the way, if
President Trump makes fun of you, the worst thing you
can do is bitterly complain about it. Because today when
(12:29):
I got up, I saw that there had been a
new meme created that President Trump had shared. He didn't
create it, but he shared it. And the meme you
may have seen it already, was Hakem Jeffreys on MSNBC
complaining about the original meme, and then the new meme
put another sombrero on him as a mariachi band of
(12:50):
Donald Trump's played behind him. Now, I was distracted all
day because I just found this enormously entertaining.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
I just.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
I never realized that the federal government could also entertain
me in this way. I've been mad at the federal
government for years and years and years, practically my whole life,
for a variety of very good reasons. Rarely have I
been entertained by it. I think I might have been
entertained during the bicentennial celebration back in seventy six. I
(13:23):
don't know if I have been since. Now I want
to know is there a new is has the president
shared a new sombrero meme? And I will be looking
later after the show. That's what I'm looking for. I
just I appreciate I will miss this. Whoever the next
presidents end up being, if we're allowed to have presidents
(13:46):
in the future, they probably won't be sharing some brero memes. Anyway.
That's been distracting me today. Just wanting to check, wanting
to see, wanting to enjoy, wanting to see also wanting
to see if there's more and more silly crying and
whining and complaining about it, which is almost as funny
(14:07):
as the actual original meme. Hello Coller, hey, good even
Henry Cliff Cliff, you are live on the radio.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Oh, Henry, I really don't know what he's mad about.
The Democrat Party. They always claiming they somebody who they are.
Uh this dude, this man dining dude.
Speaker 7 (14:28):
Uh h.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
On this college application up there in one of my
other league colleges in New York. He listened to this
ethnicity as black and Asia.
Speaker 8 (14:39):
Okay, so and and what you call it?
Speaker 1 (14:44):
She just says she was part of in you Elizabeth Warren?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yes, so hey, Obama say he was black, but he
spent most of his high school years, his uh school,
young school years in Muslim school. What do he say
he's black? So they well, I don't know what he
get mad about. They always saying something they die.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Well, I think they were mad because it was funny. Oh, yes,
they're mad because they're mad because somebody like me is
looking forward to the next one.
Speaker 8 (15:17):
It's funny when they say things on the hander. I
almost spit by grits. When this lady said that if
you commit a crime, uh, that don't make you a criminal.
I almost spit my goods out that morn I heard that. Yes,
so you know Jasmer tracking Alloy three. They always saying
something funny.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
They are. I think you mentioned mom Donnie. I think
he gave a press conference once where he said that
violence was not a real thing or something like that.
He's saying something like violence is an artificial construct or something,
claiming that violence didn't even exist.
Speaker 8 (15:54):
And the mayor is I always saying that they don't
need police protection. We don't eat anything like that.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
What we need is affordable house that we need eight
hundred million dollars for affordable houses, not crying.
Speaker 8 (16:08):
Everything they say is funny.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Cliff, thank you you have blessed my day with your
phone call. Yes, yes, indeed, but it is. I have learned.
This has taught me to be careful with somebreireroads because
I didn't. I didn't. I just I would like somebody
to come up with a chart of the hats. What
hats are most offensive? What what hats if you put
(16:36):
them on somebody's head, if you photo shop a hat
on somebody, what would be? What would what is the most.
Just give me a chart so I can know which
hat I want to I don't want to get fired
or anything like that, So I need to make sure
that I don't ever put the wrong hat on somebody,
even at a drawing or something. Even if I even
(16:57):
if I'm doodling on a piece of paper, I'm gonna
be care for with it, because evidently send somebody into
some incredible tizzy on national television, upset that somebody put
a hat on them. Let's see, gonna be taking a
time out for traffic and weather and words from our sponsors,
and then more. Uncle Henry Show here on news Radio
(17:18):
seventy ten WNTM. Would love to get your phone calls already,
have some voicemails, will be getting to on a variety
of topics. Voicemail number two five one two one six,
nineteen seventy six. If you want to leave me a
message after the show, maybe you've got some type of
(17:38):
hat math. Maybe maybe you can tell me about hats
and a voicemail later this evening two five one two
one six, nineteen seventy six. It is five thirty five
(18:11):
here on the Unk Cleannberg Show two five one four
seven nine two seven two three. The telephone number that's
two five one four seven nine two seven two three
to call the unc Lenvery Show with whatever you want
to bring forward. We're now in October. Later this month, Saturday,
October eighteenth, it's Wine on the River Joe Bullard's Wine
(18:31):
on the River happens again at the Battleship. If you've
never been to Wine on the River, it is a
gigantic wine tasting. If you love wine, it's your best
chance of the year to try lots and lots of
different wines from both national and international vineyards. And they
have wine, they have food, they have live music. It
is a very fun event.
Speaker 9 (18:51):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Some of the proceeds are going to be going, I
believe to United Way of Southwest Alabama Wine on the River.
If you want to get tickets for Wine on the River,
you can go to Wine on therivermobile dot com. The
reason I'm mentioning to this to you today is it's
Wine Wednesday and you can use the code wine and
get ten dollars off your ticket today only. So go
(19:13):
if you want to get a ticket Wine on the
rivermobile dot com and today use the code wine to
get ten bucks off the ticket to Wine on the
River again. Uncle Henry show in progress here telephone number
two five one four seven nine two seven two three.
That's two five to one four seven nine two seven
two three. Now let me go to the Uncle Henry show. Voicemail.
(19:37):
This phoned in by RT.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Hey, Uncle Henry.
Speaker 10 (19:42):
This is Urt, Uncle Henry. I'm calling because I've had
it with these Super Bowl halftime shows. They're getting worse
and worse, and they take too much away from the game.
This one come went up is obviously anti Christian, anti America.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Now, RT, I'm pausing him just for the listener that
does not care or give a flip about the super
Bowl or the halftime show. RT is referring to the
announcement that a performer named Bad Bunny is going to
be the halftime show entertainment for the super Bowl coming
(20:25):
up in February. Bad Bunny, I don't know a lot
about Bad Money. I've seen a lot of pictures of him,
a man wearing different dresses and skirts, dressing in what
looks to be female clothes. Understand, he is a Latin,
a Latin rapper that does not have any type of
(20:47):
song in English, and he has he canceled his tour
of the United States of America to protest immigration enforcement
the enforcement of immigration laws. So it's it's almost as
if the Super Bowl tried to pick It's like they
(21:09):
looked across the land and thought, who could we pick
that would irritate people like RT the most? Is there anybody?
Is there any performer out there that would really make
a lot of people mad? Could we pick somebody that
would make people mad? Let's ohe how about Bad Bunny,
a cross dressing Latin rapper who is against enforcement of
(21:35):
immigration law. So that is what the controversy is about.
There's already people up and in addition to that, there's
a lot of videos that are being shared on social
media that show Bad Buddy performances that look very much
(21:55):
like Satanic rituals. I'm not saying they are. I'm just
saying that I resemble them. You just they might be.
They might not be Satanic, but they might be Satanic adjacent.
That's all I'm saying. So that's what the controversy is involving.
Back to the voicemail from RT about all this and.
Speaker 10 (22:17):
This one coming up is obviously anti Christian, anti American.
So I'm not gonna waste any time watching it if
I've watched the super Bowl at all, but I will
at halftime shut off all my devices and get away
(22:38):
from all media for that hour's worth a halftime show
and dedicate it to reading my Bible and praying for
the entire however, you know, and I would like to
encourage everybody else to do the same. If this, you know,
(23:00):
I think it's a great idea, And if they measure ratings,
hopefully that sense a message roll time roa.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Tr Rtief thinking, what an outstanding suggestion that during the
bad Bunny performance that you turn it off and you
read your Bible. It's a wonderful suggestion, you know. I
was trying to think what you know. You may remember
once upon a time they tried to find musical artists
that a lot of people liked that wouldn't make half
(23:30):
of the country angry. They used try and do that
with the Super Bowl, and then things. I don't know
when things changed, but they did. But wouldn't it wouldn't
it be wonderful if they were to pick if I
would think that the best super Bowl halftime show we
could have for the current state of the country right now,
(23:53):
to bring us all together would be to try it
out jelly Roll. Yes, jelly Roll has some a bunch
of Christian songs. One of his top hits right now
on ninety five KSJ is the song hard Fought Hallelujah
with Brandon Lake. You get to bring jelly Roll in
(24:14):
and have him do some some good music and have
him invite Steven Curtis Chapman up in there in the
super Bowl to play some Christian music. And you could also,
you know who's really good, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Wouldn't
that now, wouldn't that be a spectacular super Bowl halftime
show to have Jelly Roll, Steven Curtis Chapman standing up
(24:36):
in front of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and just just
singing all these Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Speaker 9 (24:45):
Now?
Speaker 1 (24:48):
I know that maybe you, I'm sure you probably disagree.
You probably you're probably intrigued at a h in a
Spantish speaking cross dresser. Maybe if maybe you'd be more
entertained by a Spanish speaking cross dresser. And if that's
the case, it's still allegedly a free country, But that
would be that's who If I were the NFL I
(25:10):
would be calling jelly roll. I'd say, you can even
bring post malone. If you can't get him to stop cussing,
you can bring him. Get him to stop cussing. Bring
your friends, Brandon Linking, bring anybody that sings Christian song,
come on. I think that would be wonderful for the
country instead of trying to pour gasoline on a culture war.
(25:31):
Wouldn't it be wonderful if they just brought in some people.
You know Dolly Parton, I know her health, she's having
some health issues. People just love her. Why not her
jelly rolling Dolly, even if she's zell. They could wheel
her out and let her just be there on stage
watching from the chair. Why not instead of dividing the country,
(25:55):
why not bring us together. I've been seeing story about
a revival among a lot of athletes this year, seeing
lots of athletes on Facebook and Instagram getting baptized this year.
That'd be great. That wouldn't that be something to have
(26:16):
some baptisms do that during the Super Bowl halftime show.
Turn it into a revival. All right? Anyway, our teeth,
thank you again for your voicemail, and you've reminded me
it's October one. I have yet to watch any NFL.
I've watched some college football this year. Last weekend was
(26:37):
Oh what great college football I got to watch last year?
So many great games. Last Saturday, I have yet to
turn on an NFL game. I'm not boycotting or anything,
at least not yet, but I just hadn't found the
time for it. And let me know if if any
(27:00):
thing is going on in the NFL. Maybe they've got
some German speaking cross dresser or something or some I
don't know. Just let me know what they got going on,
so I know whether or not I should watch. All right, look,
taking a time out, and then there's more Uncle Henry
(27:20):
Show proceeding here on news Radio seven ten WNTM. You
can find the Uncle Henry Show podcast at our website
NewsRadio seven ten dot com, or on the iHeartRadio app
look for Uncle Henry's Show. I'll be back after this,
(27:42):
dad gun break. This is the Uncle Henry Show here
on news Radio seven ten WNTM. It is five point fifty.
(28:04):
You can also hear me on FM radio. I'm on
ninety five KSJ playing Today's Hottest Country every Monday through
Friday between ten and two. And I want to thank
you so much for listening. We got our August ratings
in yesterday. I don't know that. I don't know that
I've ever had numbers on a radio station like that before.
(28:29):
So thank you so much for listening to me on
ninety five KSJ, especially you ladies. Now, let's see uh
telephone number two five one four seven nine two seven
two three. That's two five one four seven nine two
seven two three.
Speaker 9 (28:46):
Let me uh.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Let me go to the Unklelder show voicemail. Do have
a voicemail to share from the retired Mad Trucker?
Speaker 9 (28:56):
Hey, uncle Henry LD retired LD. Look at here. The
credit card companies are charging more and more.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
I understand that, I understand that.
Speaker 9 (29:08):
But if you notice what the gas companies are doing now,
they're doing the same thing that the trucking fuel companies
used to do. Now is they charged ten percent more
if you use your credit card versus cash. I thought
we were wanting to go to a cash on society,
and then now we're being charged more for using cashless devices. Well,
(29:32):
that ain't gonna happen with me, brother, because I went
and I got me about five hundred dollars out of
the bank, and I tell you what I'm gonna do,
Uncle Henry. I paying cash for everything. Missus LD said
that we use a credit card in Mississippi and for dinner,
and they charged just ten percent more for use of
the credit card.
Speaker 10 (29:51):
So that's it.
Speaker 8 (29:52):
You wanted me to go to a.
Speaker 9 (29:53):
Cash on society. It ain't happening now, brother held.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Thank you for bringing that up. I've noted over the
last year, I guess more and more I'll go to
a business, and a lot of them are small businesses.
In fact, uh, one of the local pharmacies I go
to from my various ointments and pills. When I was
last time I picked up my ointments, I noticed they
(30:21):
were there was a different price for cash versus card
at the pharmacy for my special ointments. So yes, I'm
seeing it everywhere LD as well. And it isn't that
weird that we have been encouraged to go cashless and
at the same time many businesses are charging you more
(30:42):
when you don't use cash. So uh, I don't Maybe
is this just businesses trying to find a way we've
had we had a runaway inflation for several years. Is
this just a way for local businesses to try and
close that gap of their their their eating the cost.
(31:03):
But Eldie, thank you again for your voicemail voice my
number two five one two one six, nineteen seventy six.
That's two five one two one six, nineteen seventy six
to leave a message for the Uncle Henry Show. Now,
before I'm out of time in this segment of the
Uncle Henry Show, I want to mention to you that
on the Uncle Henry Show Facebook page, there is a
(31:28):
link that I have shared on the Uncle Henry Show
Facebook page about a fundraiser. The Out of the Darkness
Walk is coming up this month in Daphne. The Out
of the Darkness Walk is about suicide prevention and awareness
and I have joined a fundraising team. I'm going to
(31:51):
be walking in this walk in Daphne October twelfth, Sunday,
October twelfth and Daphne, uh. The reason that I'm involved
in this is my wife Michelle. When she was a
nine year old child, her father took his own life
(32:13):
and he left behind a wife and two kids, My wife,
who was nine at the time, and her younger sister,
and I can see how that has reverberated through her
entire life till today. And I'm sure that the same
(32:34):
thing happens with every family that is touched by suicide.
It is just the pain. I'm not going to try
to quantify it here. The people that have lived with it,
that have either had a parent or a child god forbid,
(32:56):
or a sibling or a close friend. I've lost a
couple of close friends to suicide, people that I worked
with and loved. And so I'm walking raising some money.
We're trying to raise some money for this. It is
so worthwhile trying to prevent people from taking their lives
(33:18):
and getting people the help that they need before they
reach that point. So I've got that link on the
Uncle Henry Show facebook page. If you can donate a
little bit, we would really appreciate it. Think it's a
great cause trying to help people prevent them from taking
their life. If you're in a situation where you cannot
(33:41):
help financially, or you've already given to other very worthy causes,
and there are people around here give a lot of
money to charity. If you can't help us monetarily, could
you share the link? Would you mind just sharing the
link and letting people know that this event is happening.
We would really appreciate it. Again, the Out of the
(34:01):
Darkness Walk happening in Daphne Sunday, October twelfth. You can
find the link on the Uncle Henry Show Facebook page.
And I thank you in advance for any consideration you'll
give it. I'm this is the Uncle Henry Show here
(34:39):
on news Radio seventy ten WNTM, and I thank you
for listening to the Uncle Henry Show. I really appreciate
it very very much. This job very important to me,
as the paycheck remains very important to me. Now in
this half hour of show, going to get to some
news items that I'm miss You might have missed them too.
(35:01):
Perhaps we can learn together, or you can just listen
along as I enlighten myself. Now before I get to
any news items, it is a new month. October is
a new month, and today, let's see Today October first
is National Pumpkin Spice Day for people that are spice oriented.
Now I'm not. I like salt and pepper, and I've
(35:24):
enjoyed garlic and a few other spices. I've had some
good times with cilantro. I'll admit that National Pumpkin Spice
Day today. It's also National Homemade Cookies Day. Now, I
am in favor of that National Homemade Cookies Day, although
if I were in charge, it wouldn't be just a day,
or we would have National Homemade Cookies Day every week. Yeah,
(35:50):
why not make Wednesday of every week National Homemade Cookies Day.
October first is also National Hair Day. I'm in favor
of hair, as long as the hair is not a
vault with my plumbing. Yes, I'm in favor of hair.
I enjoy hair. In fact that in my briefcase, I
have spare emergency hair. If something happens to my regular hair,
(36:13):
I've got an extra bunch of hair in my briefcase.
It's also World Vegetarian Day here on October first, World
Vegetarian Day.
Speaker 9 (36:21):
Now.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
I like vegetables a lot. I was raised eating them
as a child. My parents did force me to eat
my vegetables, and I did enjoy eating them. You know,
my favorite thing about eating vegetables, it's not the flavor.
It's not the taste, it's not the texture of the vegetables.
(36:41):
It's not the fiber and nutrients they provide my body.
My favorite thing about eating vegetables is the butter or
cheese that are on my vegetables. Yes, I always love
to have butter and cheese on my vegetables. So World
Vegetarian Day, put a little butter on it for me,
or little cheese on it for me. Now, it's also
(37:03):
before I get into a news I'm real quick. First
day of October, I went to Google, which I understand
is a hostile It's hostile. Google is hostile to people
like me. But I went to Google and asked Google
what October is in terms of months, And let's see.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mental Health Awareness Month,
(37:27):
ADHD Awareness Month, Health Literacy Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month,
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, National Cybersecurity Awareness Month,
National Children's Health Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, LGBTQ plus
History Month, National Book Month, and National Bullying Prevention Month.
(37:49):
How about that. You've got a lot to do this month,
all them things to be aware of and to participate in.
I'm going to try. I'm going to try and add
one of these. Do you think you know? If I
just said it, people would probably believe it. I'm gonna
say that October is National Possum Kindness Month. Yes, a
(38:13):
month to teach people to be kind to possums because
of the vital role, the vital, beneficial role that possums
play in the circle of life, even living alongside of
us human beings in urban environments. It is National National
(38:33):
Possum Kindness Month, according to the Uncle Henry Show. All right,
let me get to some news items that I missed.
You might have missed them too. First, let's see, there
are a couple of laws going into effect today in
the state of Alabama.
Speaker 7 (38:49):
I do not know.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
I have not listened to this story yet, so I
don't even know what they are. Let's find out together.
I found this on the Fox ten website. What are
the these laws? These new laws going into effect today
in Alabama.
Speaker 7 (39:04):
Across Alabama on October first.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
That's including one that benefits police canines.
Speaker 7 (39:09):
Starting tomorrow, first responders can render aid to police dogs
just as they would their human partners, without fear of
any liability. This law also applies to dogs used by
fire departments in the military. The bill, sponsored by Representative
Rick Reem, who says it's garnered positive reactions from agencies
across the state.
Speaker 11 (39:27):
It was overwhelming how much law enforcement and even military
canine handlers from Fort Rucker had already heard about it
and thought very highly of the bill because they want
their dogs to get medical treatment if they get injured
in the field. So isn't very positive?
Speaker 1 (39:44):
All right? So this is a law so that first
responders can treat police dogs without liability. So obviously, somewhere
in the past somebody tried to help a dog and
they were rewarded with a lawsuit. So all right, Well,
isn't it nice they're looking out for the dogs. Maybe
October should be National provide CPR to a dog mount
(40:09):
just so we can normalize it, all right? What else
is going into effect?
Speaker 7 (40:15):
Riam adds that this has long been an area of concern,
but he's hopeful for the bill's impact. Another bill going
into effect requires automated external defibrillators to be clearly marked
and readily available at athletic venues whenever students and staff
are there. This bill also requires that both public and
private school boards in Alabama have a comprehensive response plan
(40:38):
that addresses things like a cardiac emergency Response team, procedures
for emergencies, along with ad placement mandates for athletic facilities
and supporting events. This law is a response to several
cardiac incidents involving student athletes in the state. If you
can recall in our area, it has been a year
since the passing of Samaj Wilkins, a student athlete who
(40:59):
died fainting at a New Broncton football practice.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Hey, no, this, So have athletes had cardiac arrest throughout
the history of football and we just never had the
technology to go out with these defibri defibrillators and help
these people. Or is this new? Is it new that
(41:22):
more people are having cardiac arrest and we need to
have the defibrillators. I don't I don't know the answer.
I'm asking you because I know you're smarter than me
and you might be able to tell me email address,
Uncle Henry at iHeartMedia dot com. So a new bill
allowing or requiring these defibrillators to be used at athletic
(41:45):
events and available in case people have cardiac arrest at
now I need to whenever I go to a football
game in the state of Alabama. I guess I need
to know where they're they're holding the defibrillator so I'll
know where to sit. Yeah, I want to be near
it just in case. You never know, if people are dropping.
(42:06):
I might be one of those people, especially if, for example,
if Vandy were to stomp Alabama this coming weekend, I
would need the defibrillator. All right, Well, I did learn
something from that news item. All right, there's more. I
would have had more news items in this segment, but
I talked too much. So more news items in the
(42:27):
next segment of The Uncle Henry Show. As this program
continues here on news Radio seven to ten WNTM. A

All right, taking a break and then back with more
Uncle Henry Show. Take the break. That says the Uncle
(43:24):
Henry Show. News headlines coming up in ten minutes before
we get there, I've got a few news items I
want to go over here so I can learn a
little bit more now. Yesterday on the show, we talked
about how Governor k Ivy had a list of projects
(43:44):
that she was sending money to in South Alabama. This
was the offshore oil and gas revenue money, and some
of this is going to downtown Mobile for the waterfront.
I wanted to hear what Fox ten had to say
about it. Let me go to their report. I'm hoping
(44:06):
to hear a better explanation of how the money will
be used right there on the riverfront. So let's listen
as Fox ten explains to us about the use of
this money coming from oil and gas revenue offshore.
Speaker 12 (44:19):
For almost two years, Cooper Riverside Park has been closed
for repairs as a city looks to improve the space
and revitalize its downtown riverfront. So far, much of the
work has centered around the bulkhead, which needed to be
repaired after structural defects were found. I think we've encountered
other old bulkheads, old legacy bulkheads that.
Speaker 10 (44:36):
Were out there.
Speaker 8 (44:37):
Then unfortunately the slugged the construction.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
Now and some bit you know when we built a
structure like that, you got to make it feel safe,
that it's safe for the public.
Speaker 9 (44:45):
To be on.
Speaker 12 (44:46):
Executive Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, Nick Amberger says that
portion of the project should be completed by this November.
The next phase is moving forward after the city Council
approved two point seven million dollars to go towards renovating
the park's Great Lawn.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
It's going to have all new hardscape and landscaping as
well as ada access, and people are also going to
see really great upgrades to the restroom in that facility.
Speaker 12 (45:09):
The project is also getting an extra four million dollars
in go MESA funding to extend the river walk past
the convention Center. Director of Programs and Project Management Jennifer
Green says the Great Lawn renovation should be finished by
the spring. The goal is to have the park opened
by November of next year and give people the kind
of waterfront access they've been asking for.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Every single time we have a community engagement meeting, it's
one of the first things that we hear from people.
They want to be along the water, they want access
to the riverfront, they want access to the bay. These
projects are doing exactly that.
Speaker 12 (45:40):
And the city also received three point five million dollars
in go MESA funding to go towards a new access
road to Berkley by the Bay Live and Studio Nation
Smith Foxtend News.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
All right, very good. More waterfront access is good. People
like to look at the water, they do, don't they
don't you? All right, let's see what ails. We got
word from the police department that they're going to be
increasing patrols in downtown Mobile near a downtown haunted house
(46:09):
where there have been a lot of reports of youth
just gathering. And I guess any group of youth gathering
in our modern times, we have to be concerned about
the youth gathering.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
We can expect to see more police officers in downtown Mobile.
MPD says it's increasing patrols around a haunted house because
hundreds of teens have been causing a public safety issue.
Speaker 12 (46:36):
The teens.
Speaker 1 (46:36):
There's hundreds of teens really, it's said to.
Speaker 5 (46:38):
Be gathering near Saint Francis and Broad. Police say some
of them are just hanging out. They're asking parents not
to trump off their kids there.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
All right, So there is a haunted house downtown and
youth are gathering at Saint Francis and Broad and the
encouraging parents not to drop their kids off there. Now,
are there a lot of parents that think? You know
what I think? I want to drop my kid off
at Broad in Saint Francis. I mean, is any parent
(47:08):
doing that? Well, I guess a few. Kid is big
and well trained and maybe well armed. I don't know.
But are you dropping? Are you dropping your kid? Is
anybody doing this dropping their kid off at Broad in
Saint Francis? I don't know. It's a different world, isn't it.
It is a different world in which we live. You know,
(47:29):
back in the day, there were lots of unsupervised teenagers.
There were There were lots of unsupervised teenagers back in
the day, And nowadays unsupervised teenagers means something completely different.
It usually means a lot, means a lot of property damage.
All right, Well, what else can I share with you?
I mentioned at the beginning of this hour it is
(47:52):
a new month, the month of October. Let's see, I've
got a report from Fox ten about how the sky,
the night sky in October is really wonderful for people
that like to look up at the stars. Let's listen together.
Speaker 13 (48:09):
The first full moon of fall comes with cooler temperatures
and celestial treats. Be sure to look up. On October sixth,
the super moon will rise in the east just after sunset.
According to EarthSky dot org, It's called a supermoon because
the Earth's only natural satellite is close to Earth, so
it appears larger than usual. Peak viewing for the Drakonids
(48:30):
meteor shower is when darkness falls on October eighth into
the early morning hours of the ninth Later this month.
Don't sleep through the Orionids. Peak viewing starts at dusk
October twentieth. These meteors are known for their brightness and
their speed, according to NASA, But there's nothing spooky about
the moon for Halloween October thirty first Cjpopa, Fox News.
Speaker 1 (48:51):
All right, congratulations to him forgetting the easy job of
reading about meteor showers there at Fox News. All right, there,
there you have it. Things to look at in the
sky in the month of October. All right, out of time,
blessedly out of time for the Uncle Henry Show this hour.
I do want to mention that if you'd like to
(49:13):
leave a voicemail message if there's something if there's stuff
you'd rather be talking about, like government shut downs and
stuff like that. You can always leave me a voicemail
voice my number two five one two one six, nineteen
seventy six. Again, that voicemail number is two five to
one two one six, nineteen seventy six, to leave a
(49:33):
message for the Uncle Henry Show. And I've mentioned this before.
If you're calling the old number that I had for years,
I abandoned that number I don't know about eight months ago,
ten months ago, So if you've been leaving messages on
that number, I ain't hearing them all right out of time.
Thank you for listening. As they say it, Sarah Land,
(49:54):
have a good one, and as they say in Theodore,
take it easy
Speaker 3 (50:00):
All right later
