Speaker 1 (00:16):
It says the Uncle Henry Show here on News Radio
seven ten WNTM. Thank you for listening to the Uncle
Henry Show. Now, in this segment of the show, we're
going to talk about a great event coming up this
weekend in Daphne, in Old Town Daphney. It is the
Jubilee Festival of Arts and I've got Liz Thompson with
(00:38):
us on the phone. Liz, Hello to you. Hello, how
are you doing great?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Now?
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Liz, you are with the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce.
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
That is correct? This will be my fourteenth Jubilee Festival.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Now, before we get to the Jubilee Festival, you work
with that Chamber of Commerce. There's so much going on
there with the Eastern Shore. We must stay busy all
the time with all the new businesses popping up over there.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
We have so many new businesses that join every month
on the Eastern Shore. So that will involve a ribbon
cutting and they're onboarding process. And you know, the Eastern
Shore is certainly booming. So between new businesses and people
moving into Bowen County, we've got a lot going on.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yes, you do. So after this interview is over, I
would like you to please email me a list of
the best new restaurants so that I know you know
all of the places to eat that we might not
know about. So I'll need all this list from you later.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Now that's easy. I can definitely do that.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
All right. So there are some people listening that have
never been to the Jubilee Festival of Arts and Old
Town Dafne. So laid out for them exactly what is
this event like.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
So it is a two day art festival, and it's
the third weekend in October. And yes, I'm well aware
that that's the Alibum I am a Tennessee game, Yes
it is. But we do have a giant JumboTron in
our tailgator area that we'll have all the games playing
that weekend, So if you are out at the festival,
you will definitely be able to enjoy the games. But
(02:15):
it is a two day art festival. It is ten
to five on Saturday and ten to four on Sunday,
and we have more than one hundred and thirty vendors
between fine arts. It's a jury fine art show. We
also have a farmer's market, so if jams and jellies
and plants and baked goods are your thing. You can
(02:38):
procure those there as well. And we also have a
food court filled with all the you know, all the
festival food as well as doughnuts to burgers. We've got
it all we do. This event is sponsored and presented
by Southern Cancer, so they will have a booth there
(02:59):
giving out from Rational Materials as well as some of
their great swag that they always bring along. We have
an entertainment stage, so we've got local artists as well
as dance troops, so any of those types of entertainment
are available to you throughout the weekend. We've got snow cones,
(03:20):
permanent jewelry. We've got information booth that houses our official
festival merchandise. So Riena Turner is our official festival artists
this weekend, so you can buy prints and t shirts
with her designs on it, and she will also be there.
Her booth is located directly next to the information booth,
(03:42):
so you can get any of her custom works and
take home some unique art to decorate your home.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
All right, all right, now, tell me a little bit
more about the artist you mentioned that you're going to
have something like what did you say over one hundred
and twenty or one hundred and thirty vendors. Tell me
where the artists come from.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So we get a lot of our artists along the
Gulf coast, so I would say probably from Tallahassee to
New Orleans kind of our footprint, and then north to
Birmingham and you know, into Memphis is kind of the
draw of artists that we precur from. So we've got pottery,
(04:24):
We've got painting, jewelry is always a big hit. We've
got watercolor artists, sculpture yard art, wind chimes. Steve Dark
will be there with his very unique pottery that many
people are very familiar with as he is also an
(04:45):
artist from Golf Shores. We've got a kids art park
and so that is completely free to people who've got
their kids with them in tow for the weekend. You
can go there and do up to six different activities,
be it face painting, jewelry, making fish prints and take
(05:08):
have something a little happy to take home with you
when you leave the show. Let's see in terms of
our other artists, we have Katherine Cochrane usually comes large
drago and you know, if you're familiar with their work,
they're big jewelers in the town. And so you can
get any and everything like that.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
So, Liz, if somebody was looking to buy unique Christmas gifts,
would this be a great place to do that. It
sounds like it would be.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Oh, certainly. We've got all types of things that will
definitely check off lists for your Christmas those that are
on your Christmas list. We've got a lady who makes
custom American doll clothes, so if you've got a grandchild
that is all into the American doll scene, you can
(05:58):
come and get some unique outfits for them. We've got
handmade wooden toys, wind chimes, metal metal sculpture to you know,
put on your walls or you know, signage for your home.
Maybe you want a custom sign at your you know,
(06:20):
by your mailbox. Definitely. The jewelry is always a hit.
Pottery is my personal favorite, and we have probably about
ten to twelve potters this year, which is when I
first started this, we had one potter, so ten to
twelve is actually quite lovely for for a festival of
(06:41):
our size.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
It really is. So this event happening Saturday and Sunday
in Old Town Daphne. Now tell people exactly where to
find it. If people have never been to the Jubilee
Festival of Arts. Where is it?
Speaker 2 (06:57):
So if you are coming south from I ten, you
will navigate into Scenic or Scenic ninety eight into old
Town Daphney and the majority of the footprint of this
show takes place at Lot Park, so you won't be
able to park in the park obviously, but we start
(07:17):
on the northern end of Lot Park and then all
the way down to Magnolia on the southern end, and
you'll be able to park along the outskirts. You can
park at any of the local churches at the elementary
school and walk into the show. It is completely it's
a very easy walkable event and you can hit all
(07:40):
the great vendors that we have. But either coming north
or south from either fair Hope or from Mobile in Iten,
you can google Lot Park and then we'll take you
right there.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
All right, now, we're just about out of time here.
Where can people find more information if they want to
go find the information themselves, So you can and.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Go to Eschamber dot com, or you can go to
Jubilee Festival of Arts dot com.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
All right, Liz Thompson, thank you so much for your time.
I hope you have a great festival.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Thank you. I think it's going to be a Chamber
of Commerce weekend, so thank you for letting us promote
our festival on your show.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
You are very welcome. It was my pleasure talking to you. Now.
We're going to break here on news radio seven to
ten WNTM, the Uncle Henry Show, and when we come back,
we've got another event coming up. Yes, there's another event
coming up. There's so many things coming up this weekend
and one of those events is the British Car Show
in fair Hope. We're going to learn about that after
(08:48):
the break. Let's go ahead and take the break.
