And our proceeds we support the Ronald McDonald House. They're
also one of our corporate partners. So just just know
that and keeping in mind this beautiful spring weather that
we're thoroughly enjoying and all the fun we're having, that
that there's some who aren't and they're in a home
(01:57):
away from home that we try and make. You know,
the wonderful people that there Ronald McDonald House in both
Mobile and Pensacola work so hard to create a safe
and comfortable and welcoming environment for those who are really
having a difficult time.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
It's great work you do with Ronald McDonald House.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
So it's great work they do. Yeah, it's just.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Well, they do great work because there's people such as
yourself helping them out.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
So it's a privilege to be a part of that.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Now again, the VIP event is Saturday, May the third.
How does someone How does someone become a VIP to
get to the go to this event.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
You walk through the door. That's it. Do you have
a red carpet.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
We have the red carpet rolled out. Walk through the
door Saturday ten to six, and it's just gonna be
a It's a fun day, don't you think.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Tom Oh, it's a lot of fun, a lot of people, refreshments, gifts,
incredible merchandise. Come in and you'll find everything you love and.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Want exactly exactly twenty percent off plus an additional twenty
percent off, so we're tariff free with prices.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
That is a wonderful thing to hear. It's a wonderful shop,
No mo.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
So it's a good opportunity, like you said, to come
in and talk with the designers, because Tommy Mac, it
starts with us walking in the door. We have we
have a problem. We know we have a problem, but
you can help us focus our problem and solve our
problem at Lazyboy.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Oh. Absolutely. Sometimes I think I'm psychic, but I'd rather
talk to you and learn more about you instead of
just making an assumption.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Once you worked with so much, you know in that field,
the questions are very often very similar. You know, the
issues are all very similar as far as challenges with
with spaces, and.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
That's why we like to come into your home and
it's free, there's no charge. That way, we learn more
about how you want the room to function for you
and your family, and we can see it and so
different from a cell phone picture. Yeah, you know they
look small on cell phone, but they're larger. They look
large on cell phone and they're small, and we just
learn more about you and then we put the design
(04:13):
together for you, and you come in for your purchasing
appointment and you get to see this incredible presentation on
the big screen TV.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
And it makes all the difference, doesn't it, Because it's
more than just a traffic pattern, which is important, Yeah,
but there's so many more subtle pieces to the puzzle that.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Create that room.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
You know, you when something is off in a space,
you know, if the colors off, if something is missized
or misproportioned, you can walk into the space and go
it just doesn't feel right. But I don't quite know why.
You know, something here just feels funny.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
We pick it up subconsciously.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yes, yes, you know. The balance may be wrong, the
proportions may be wrong. So it that that's what we do.
That's you know is create a space that is pleasing
to you to walk in and to your friends and family.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
And sometimes, you know, we think we know the problem,
like I've got to have a new sofa, or i
need a new recliner, or I need to replace this,
and we bring it in and show you on the
cell phone. But you need to see the context.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yes exactly.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
And you get a new sofa, they bring it in,
the deliver it and the delivery people leaving you sit
there and you don't have that feeling that you were
expecting because it's needs to be.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Well, wait, I want to back that up, because if
you love your room and you're simply replacing a sofa,
that's fine, then that then it's going to be beautiful.
But if what you want your sofa to do is
to remake your room, then.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
It's the people that know how to do that.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, don't put too much pressure on a
beautiful new sofa. It just depends on how you want
to approach the space. Well does that make sense? It does?
Speaker 5 (06:09):
And we love to live vicariously through you guys going
into homes and telling us how you're making these changes
and making you know, the sofas and the everything fit
and tell us some of your adventures Tommy Max.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Oh, we meet the most fascinating people. I mean, it's
absolutely incredible. It's a blessing recently invited into a home.
And they're both artists. Oh one is a writer and
the other as a glass artist. Oh wow, they're both
just fascinating. So of course, as soon as they opened
the door, I said, I googled both of you, and
(06:47):
they were excited. Because you know, sometimes people don't really
tell you all of that about themselves. So you've got
to discover and going to be working with one main
piece in a room, but then building upon that each layer.
They have not done the layers. They have not created
the comfort that they want comfort. Starting with the rug.
(07:10):
You know there's a need for a rug. They knew
that so much so that they had taken tape and
marked it out where they thought it rug would be
on the floor. So if that doesn't tell you they
know they need a rug and want a rug, there
it is. And then tables. Tables are so important. Lamps
(07:30):
lighting is so important. You know, you have a light
hanging in the center of the room, you have recess light,
but then that just creates a shadow, where does it
give you the mood, doesn't give you the task lighting
you need. So adding all of that, just each layer
to build it to so that they will want to
bring their work into the room, because at this point
they're not living amongst their own work. So bring some
(07:51):
of those pieces in and let it enjoy the showcase
of your own the fruit of your own labor, of your.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Life exactly, you know.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
And to expound a little bit on the seven layers,
you know the why of a rug? Well, what exactly
does a rug do for you? Well, first of all,
it defines your space. It defines your sitting space, and
it is if you've got all hard surface floors, which
are beautiful, there can be a bit of a noise issue,
(08:23):
so it helps, and a comfort issue. Who wants to
sit on the floor, nobody. So having a beautiful rug
in place is not only an addition to really bring
the room, you know, literally from the ground up, but
it's also there for comfort and for function, so you
(08:44):
can hear in the space. So it's defining, it helps enhance,
and it's comfortable and so there are a lot of
reasons to do a rug, and you don't have to.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Do just one So are they doing just one room?
Speaker 4 (08:59):
Oh no, because I saw a dining room. So when
we mandered in there and we're really basing the pieces,
they have beautiful furniture in the basics, the table and chairs,
but of course I felt like there was a whole
lot of wood, a whole lot of heaviness. So we're
going to soften that up with I'm a host and
(09:19):
hostess chairs or upholstered, and we're basing all of the
colors we're bringing into that room off of a painting
that had been done by her mother, a particular shade
of grain. And I found these I hope they're not listening,
but I found these fantastic lamps that look like large
cabbages with that green arm.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
They have to be in that room, see that.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
But that's the point, is that to be able to
look at the space, and because sometimes your dining room
can become very sticky, you know, like literally with the table,
but but you know with the chairs because there's not
necessarily a window in some dining rooms, or if there is,
it's a small so there's difficult to incorporate a little softness.
(10:05):
So you know, knowing that you can do a pair
of upholster chairs that will bring some softness in and
some pattern or not you know texture anyway, you know
texture and or a pattern, and then also knowing like
the uh, who they are and their personalities. So these
lamps are something that will just extend what what their
(10:29):
personalities are. I can't wait to see it.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Oh, it's exciting. The lamps are exciting.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
And that's another thing I wanted to say. You know
about the lighting. You know Tommy mcador's.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
He does, it's his favorite thing.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Amen.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
But you know, somebody said if you want to look
twenty years old, or just use your overheads advice if
you want an immediate facelift. Auxiliary lighting and task lighting
and acts lighting are so important because they really highlight
(11:04):
different corners of the space or overhead lighting just tends
to just cast light down. But you know, if you've
got something in the corner and you know it's you know,
dusky and time of day, you can just turn on
a corner lamp and it just warms up the whole
room without being overpowering and really draws you. Isn't it incredible?
(11:24):
But a small and the lamps have come so far.
We have bookcase lamps. Now, little bookcase lamps. We can
just stick a little lamp into a bookcase or on
a counter. Yeah, aren't they here, They're precious. We have
battery powered lamps in case you don't have floor plugs
(11:45):
in the middle of your room and you want to
float a lamp. You don't have to worry about the.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Cord the cords, that's right.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
So there are a lot of innovations in lighting that
you may not know about or know how to employee
in the space. And so that's what you know. Tommy
spends a lot of time research. All of our design
team spend time researching and knowing what is effective and
(12:13):
best in the space.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Now, Tommy Mac, you're working with these artists. Is it
intimidating working with artists?
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (12:21):
No, they're so wonderful. I just love it. Eat it up.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Well, Tommy is an artist.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I'm just curious about that. Yeah, and the lamps they
look like cabbages or are they cabbages?
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Oh, I'll never tell. Oh yeah, if it were, I
guess eventually that but it looks like something they would
have made, which is so exciting.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
All right, Well, so that is one of your house calls.
You're working with that family of artists. Can you tell
us about any other house call as you've been on
lately or you're about.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
To go on, Oh, another one getting ready to come
back in for their wonderful presentation. Will be a couple
who claim to be of retirement and there, but they
(13:24):
called this their retirement home, designed it to be a
little house for them. But it I think as he
kept drawing, he decided, well, she got this over here,
I want that from me over here. She got that
over there for her, so he wants the same thing
on the other side they do. They'll have a common
area gathering for all their family, children and grandchildren, but
(13:45):
then they have their own places to watch television. They
can gather together in the kitchen and in the gathering room.
Other than that, you just come and go when you want.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
But when you're putting these together like she does hers,
and what she wants goes there and what he wants
goes in his, and then they come together and make
decisions for the common areas and.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Then well, yes, and then I'll make it flyw I
think in the common area it's really going to be
her decision, And he let it be known that it
is his decision in his rooms absolutely where he'll study
and exercise and watch TV. That will be the look
he wants. It is like, but I think.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
It's excuse me, I beg your pardon, madam.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
I'm sure he knows her well enough what to select
for his room so that she too will be happy.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
So Tommy, you you just said that they haven't come
in for the presentation yet. For people that I haven't
heard you talk about it before, what does that mean?
Come in for the presentation.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
We work with people in the store and we find
out you know what you like. You sit and you touch,
you fill the pieces, you touch fabrics and leathers. So
different from looking at things online. Oh yeah, actually, And
then we go into your home and learn even more.
And that I work up a design of all the
things that I pulled from you, because I'm getting your
(15:17):
ideas and just expanding on those and putting the together
to make them work, because so many people do tell
us I know what I want, I just don't know
how to get it. I don't know how to put
it together. And then you'll come in to place your
pieces on order, but before you do, you'll see all
of it on the big screen TV, So there are
no surprises, there are no doubts, no questions. You literally
(15:38):
it's as if you're looking into the room with your yes.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
A fast forward photograph, which is phenomenal, which is we've
come a long way. You know, when time I started,
it was you cut out pieces and you had to
trive forard. You had a who own floor plan and
you go, so this is going to go here, and
this is to go here, and you had pictures that
remember trying to print those pictures off of a printer
(16:06):
and go, here's what this.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Is your before picture.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
But we've come a long way with with all of that,
and it is but you know, we were talking about
a minute ago the uh you know how a lot
of the questions are the same. And one of the
big questions that we get is I'll know it if
I see it, if I could just see it, And
this addresses that question. You the questions are universal. Generally
(16:32):
it's like my room, I can't get my room to work,
and generally it's just a couple of little movements of
something and voila, You've got a beautiful room.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
So you know, they're they're universal questions.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
So there's no shame here and we all have a
before picture. Yeah, and that is and it's like when
you're tired of that. If you if this is something
you want and you're tired of the space, it's quite
simple to do it, you know. It's just come on
in and we'll just sit down and visit with you
about how you want it to look and how you
(17:07):
want it to feel. And there's another thing we talk
about the budget.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Yes, budget right.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Exactly, because we live in the real world, so there
all ways, all sorts of ways to to make it work,
to make it work, that's right. So we just talked
to you and make a plan. That's what you need,
you know, plan well, plan What is it making a
plan as planning to if you make a plan, failing
(17:36):
to plan is planning to fail.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Yes, I was trying.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
She got it, She got me, and it was wonderful
to hear you go.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Through it when it finally came out. Failing to plan,
planning to fail. Because what's the most expensive piece of
furniture that.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
You own, the one you cannot stand and you.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Paid for us?
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Yes, yes, and I think we've made those mistakes and
that's what we're afraid. I was we're afraid of making mistakes,
and that's why we need you to come in and
help us figure out whether we need new layers, or
whether we need new lighting, or whether we need something
that's going to fit better, or traffic pattern work better.
You can do all of these things because just listening
(18:19):
to you talk about all the different things that you
take into account, I'm going I like reds, but you
know what I mean, it's like, uh, I can't. You're
talking about texture. You're talking about you know, all the
different fabric types and the woods and everything is like
that's a lot for us, but for you, it's it's
(18:40):
like breathing.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
You do know a lot though. You know how you
want to live in your room. You know how much
your family means to you, You know what your dog
means to you. So there's so many components that get
added in. You know a lot more about what you
want than you realize, and you know it's just it's
(19:01):
simple to know. It's just you know, we just talked
to you. We want it to be a place where
our family is. We want to be able to sit
here and be relaxed, not concerned. You know, we don't
want to sit in a gallery. We want to sit
in a home right in our home. And so so
you tell us a lot just by talking that way.
(19:23):
So so it's a it's a lot of fun to do.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
All right. We are just about out of time here.
So for the people that tuned in late, let's tell
people what is happening Saturday at Lazy Boy.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
It is the VIP event and we are gonna it's
the Spring VIP event and it.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Is the biggest sale of the year.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Twenty percent off plus twenty percent off. Wow, thirty six
months no interest finance, and.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
We have a free gift.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
What are they marry you knew them earlier.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
The wine glasses or the grill sell simless.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Wine glasses and girls, said Tommy Mack. And what else
is the Oh.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Your opportunity to register for it to win a ten
thousand dollars room makeover.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
You can walk the red carpet. We're rolling it out.
We have wonderful food and refreshments and designers on handtop
just bring your design questions. So and also we are
gonna be a terraff free zone crisis so low you
won't need the shop no more. And that's all day Saturday,
(20:28):
all day Saturday. All three locations Obio, Pensacola and Spanish Ford.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Lazy Boy Best Tommy Mack, thank you both for coming in.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Oh. We had a great time as always
