Speaker 1 (00:06):
It's news radio seven to ten WNTM. Uncle Henry here
on Ask the Expert, and I want to welcome back
to Ask the Expert Chris Hankins with Mahindrap Mobile Mahindra
of Mobile located on Hamilton Boulevard in Theodore. So, Chris,
how are things going at Mahindra of Mobile.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Uncle Henry? They are great. We are terribly busy. People
are in and out. It's things are going wonderful things.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
So I love hearing this. I love that you're busy.
So what what are people doing at Mahindra of Mobile
this time of year? We're in spring, getting feels like
summer for a lot of folks, getting close to summer.
So what are people doing at Mahindra of Mobile getting service?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yep, we're getting a lot of service calls right now.
We have a lot of tractors that are coming in
for repair where people have been using them for spring
planting and may I tore something up. But we're also
selling a lot of new units to people who want
to plant something for spring.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Okay, I want to I want to ask you about
that and other planning as we as we get into
other months into the summer. But since the last time
we talked, we have now tariffs. Lots of talk about
tariffs of a lot of things like tractors. People are
thinking maybe they need to buy them now before bigger tariffs.

(01:21):
Has that effected Mahindra of mobile.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
It has not yet. Okay, we are being told that.
I think the same thing that everybody else is saying
that we don't know for sure what's going to happen,
but we feel like it is going to cause a
price increase. So we are definitely encouraging our customers. If
you've been on the fence about buying a tractor, an
implement or something of that nature, come see us now

(01:46):
because two or three months from now it may be
a couple thousand more than you could have bought it today.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, this is a lot. A lot of industries are
facing this. Car dealers are seeing a lot of people
come in for the new cars because they think they're
going to be more expensive in a few months.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Right, And I would say you should view the tractor
the same way. If if it's something you feel like
you want to do in the next six months, now
is a better time to do it then later.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
All right, So for those of us that haven't gotten
a tractor yet. Tell me what tell me about your customers.
What type of folk come in to get tractors that
may hinder mobile.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Mostly the customers that we deal with have small acreage
I would say, somewhere between three and twenty acres. They're
looking for a tractor that they can use to help
around the house, whether it be to clean up limbs
or fallen trees, or to plant a garden. We have
some larger landowners that use them for you know, planting

(02:40):
for deer and turkey and different things like that. And
then we have some fairly large farmers that use our
equipment for you know, pulling seed buggies or what have you. Okay,
and so we we kind of cover the gamut for customers.
But I would say eight out of ten of our
customers are those ones that have three to to twenty

(03:00):
acres and just need some help cleaning up around the house.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Okay. So that person that may be listening now that
has three to twenty acres and they've been thinking about
getting an attractor and tariffs, we don't know what's going
to happen, but they might cause a price increase. Do
you have financing available for these people.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Absolutely, and we have some really attractive financing offers right now,
especially on some of our smaller units, the twenty and
twenty six horsepower units. We can get zero percent for
eighty four months, and they're actually offering a cash rebate
to go with that. So it's two thousand dollars off
of the list price before you even start the financing.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Okay, hey again you the listener. Mahindraomobile dot com is
the website Mahindra Ofmobile dot com. You can also find
Mahindra of Mobile on Facebook and get information there. Again,
they're on Hamilton Boulevard in Theodore. So you had mentioned
just a few moments ago planting spring planting, and then
we're going to be out of that pretty soon. What

(03:59):
kind of implements do you have available for people that
want to do some planning.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, we've got just about every implement you could imagine.
One of the things we're selling a lot of right
now is a rotary tiller and that hooks to the
back of the tractor and you turn the PTO on,
turns the tiller for you and you just dragged along.
It's a perfect implement if you're a home gardener. It
just really preps to soil up perfect so you can
go back and seat it or plant whichever way you

(04:26):
want to, you know, And that's something that we have.
I've probably sold a dozen of them in the last
month here.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Oh really, Okay, So there's some plane going.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Very popular and we've got some We've got two different
brands in stock. We've got Mahindra and we're now an
ironcraft dealer as well, so we've got some Ironcraft implements.
So if you're you know, let's say you own a
tractor and it's not a Mahindra, that's okay. The the
implements are not specific, so we'd be happy to help
you out with there as well.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Okay, So you and I have this mental image of
people coming in and buying this and going and doing planting. Now,
you don't have customers just from Mobile County, right, because
you're kind of regional for Mahindra. Where do you draw
customers from.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
We get customers pretty much from all over the southeast here.
We've sold tractors all the way up to Jackson, Mississippi, Okay,
and we've sold them over into Florida and over into Mississippi,
probably going north in Alabama. I think the furthest one
up was maybe Monroval Okay, But we get a lot
of calls from all over the all over the place.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Why do what draws people to Mahindra. What is it
about Mahindra tractors that draws in customers?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
The biggest selling feature for a Mahindra tractor is that
we do not have diesel exhaust fluid or diesel particulate
filters in our units, Okay. And that is something that
stands out in the market. If you know anything about
diesel engines, that's a huge selling feature for Mahindra tractors.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
I don't know anything about diesel engines. What does that?
Do they run better because they don't have those things?
I think I don't more powerful because they don't have
those things.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
I wouldn't say they run better, I would say they
have less problems, okay. And if you look at it
as just simple terms, it's something else that's attached to
the engine that can cause an issue. So if we
can remove that, that's one less thing that you have
to worry about. And it's also a maintenance issue when
you have diesel exhaust fluid. The unit burns off that fluid,

(06:25):
so you have to add at every couple of months,
you have to change all the filters and and the
units do what it's called a region as well, which
means that they ramp up the RPMs to burn off
matter that's in those filters. And when it does that,
it won't do anything else. Meaning if you're out till
in your garden and it decides it's going to region,

(06:47):
you're just going to have to sit there for about
thirty forty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
So don't okay? All right? Well, easy to understand right
when you put it that way. Tell me a little
bit about I'm trying to understand the range of Mahindi tractors.
So what would be your most compact unit that you've got.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
The most compact unit we have is a brand new
unit to the market. It's the eleven twenty. It's a
twenty horse power tractor. It's pretty small, but it weighs
about fifteen hundred pounds, but it'll lift eight hundred pounds
believe it or not, Okay from the front end, So
super strong little unit. But they're also really easy to operate.

(07:29):
They have their hydrostatic and they have two foot pedals.
You push one to go forward and one to go backwards.
So almost anybody can come and get one of these
units and do some work with it.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Now for simple on a compact unit like that, are
there a lot of options if you want to add
you talked about planting implements. With a compact unit like that,
can you get a variety of uses from it? Can
you use a lot of different implements with that? Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (07:55):
The eleven twenty we can get with a mower deck,
can get it with a back houh. It can use
any three point implements that are out there. So the rototiller, Uh,
you can put a fence post order on it. You
can use a box blade. I mean you can literally
do anything with this unit.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
See No, I don't know why, but just the idea
that I could have a compact unit and get a
back hole on it. I don't even know that I
need to use a back home, but I would love
to have the opportunity. They just to have the back home.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
They're pretty neat. If you just bored one day, you
can dig a hole and fill it in, no problem.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Well, you know there's I know people this isn't maybe
maybe you haven't heard this use or maybe this is
a common use. But I know people that have had
that live that live out of the city and they
have to do they have to handle their own drainage right,
and so they will use a tractor. They'll use back
hos and things to create their own drainage on their
property and ditches and things like that. Is that common

(08:50):
that people do that.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
I sold a unit two weeks ago to a guy
that had that very problem, and now you can buy
a small compact U. You bought a big tractor with
a back but he told me that drainage was always
an issue on his piece of property and that he
was going to use that tractor with that back code
to fix every bit of it.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Okay, so that is something to see. That would be
I've already got an area that I would like to
make a deeper ditch in my head. So I may
be coming to you for the compact unit because it
would be in a city. Now we talked about a
compact punk compact unit you got at Mahindra Mobile. What
would be what would be your your biggest in stock

(09:28):
item at Mahindra Mobile.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
We have a sixty seventy five cab tractor. That's a
seventy five horse power tractor, and just to give you
a bit of a baseline, it's capable of pulling a
fourteen foot back wing mower. Oh okay, so it's a
it's a big guy. It would pull probably a ten

(09:50):
to twelve foot disc. You can really do a lot
of work with this unit. Okay, but you're also in
the AC.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, that's nice, that's magnificent. And I'm going to guess
that something that size has the capabilities of almost anything.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I can think of, almost anything. Yes, sir, there's some
implements that are out there that require one hundred horsepower
or more, but not very many of them.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Okay. So when I'm going to guess that, one of
the issues for anybody that buys a tractor is going
to be getting it worked on, because there's not a
Mahindra in every corner.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
There is not.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
So talk to me about your service department. If I'm
buying one of these things and encounter some type of
issue that I can't figure out, you're.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
There, absolutely, and we have in stock parts. We have
two great tractor technicians. They've been through the Mahindra schools themselves.
So they're Level three certified for Mahindra tractors and the
only way to get Level four certified is to actually
travel to Houston and go through that training there, which
we plan to do at some point. But our techs

(10:56):
are really good at diagnosing and fixing these issues. We can,
you know, take care of warranty claims in house. You
don't have to do anything other than bring the tractor
and drop it off. We can do all the service
work to it. We can do the repair work, and
we can warranty the claim if the tractor's under warranty.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
That's really important, isn't it for you?

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Absolutely? Yeah, And that's also another big selling feature for
a Hinder tractors is that our warranty is eighty four months.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Oh okay, see that that gives you a little piece
of mind, it does, you're getting it.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah. The first two years of that is bumper to
bumper and the remaining five years is a limited power train,
but it covers all the major stuff in the unit,
like you know, the engine and stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Now you mentioned we've talked about spring planning. How do
a lot of your customers use their tractors in the
summer month because we're practically there.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Right, Yeah, we're getting there. We have a lot of
guys that use their tractors at the hunting camp to
plant summertime food plots for light tailed deer. We have
a lot of guys that are dove hunters and they'll
plant millet fields in the summer summer months. That's pretty
good to start around June or July. And then we
have a lot of just home gardeners, you know, and

(12:08):
they'll plant different varieties of plants at different points of
the year. You know, I think probably harvest corn sometime
in the late summer. But once they harvest the corn,
they plant some things right behind it. So they'll use
those garden tillers again and get out there and pull
up what's what they've you know, produced, and put something
new in the ground.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Now. For for someone who's not owned a tractor before,
and they're and they're ready, they've maybe they've they've waited
to get that plot of land. How difficult is it
to learn how to use the Mahindra TAC tractor.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
They're super easy. Again, going back to that compact unit,
you know, it depends on what you choose. And one
of the things that I'm big on with my salespeople
is really learning about what the customer needs out of
the tractor, not necessarily what they want. We want to
get them what they want, but we also want to
sell them a tractor that's big enough to get them
what they need. If that makes sense, it does. And

(13:05):
during that process, we were really big on putting these
people on top of the unit, let them drive it
around the yard. I mean, you can test drive a
tractor at Mahindra Mobile, just like you test drive a
GM product around the corner. So we want you to
come out. We'll be more than happy to help you
learn about the operation of the tractor, what functions it has,
how to use those functions properly, and really kind of

(13:29):
give you a schooling on that tractor if you will.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Now, if you just tuned in, we're talking to Chris
Hankins of Mahindra of Mobile. The website is Mahindraomobile dot
com and you can find the Mahindra of Mobile on Facebook.
I like going to your Facebook page because you put
up pictures of people that have got brand new Mahindras
and I'm abe as we're having this conversation, I've been
looking through all these different sizes of tractors, people happily

(13:52):
there with their new tractors. I asked you about your
most compact unit, your biggest unit, What are your hop sellers,
What are the most popular items that you have.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I would say the most popular tractor we sell is
the sixteen hundred series tractors from Mahindra. They're probably middle
of the road as far as tractors go, but we
they're offered in three different varieties. There's a sixteen twenty six,
which is a twenty six horsepower tractor, a sixteen thirty
five which is a thirty five horsepower and a sixteen

(14:23):
forty which is a forty horsepower unit.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
By the way, I'm looking at a picture of somebody
who just bought a sixteen forty s and just looking
at the picture with all the different implements, it looks
like you can do almost anything with this.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
You could, and we were able to install a third
function on that unit and put a grapple bucket on it,
and so he uses that grapple bucket to move around
trees that he's cut down off the property and cleared.
And that's another big selling feature that we have.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
So why why are the Mahindra sixteen hundred so popular
with your customers?

Speaker 2 (14:56):
I think the most the best answer I can give
you is that they're light enough that you can pull
them with a half ton pickup truck. And so a
lot of guys that are getting into owning a tractor,
they may not have a big diesel pickup truck to
move those tractors around just yet, and so they want
to buy a unit where they don't have to go
buy a new truck just to get the detractor home.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Okay, Now, see I see people in the big diesel trucks,
and I think they might have that for a big
boat or something. It might be a tractor, could be
might be a tractor that they're they're pulling along. Yeah,
so that is your most popular Is there anything else
that you sell a lot of asigned from the sixteen hundreds?

Speaker 2 (15:35):
We sell a lot of forty five hundred series tractors.
The forty five hundred series tractor with Mahindra is a
very Uh it's a big bulky unity.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
They're I'm looking at what I'm looking at one right now?
This guy looks like he could mow every football field
in the SEC with this thing.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
He could. And Uh, they're they're capable of pulling a
bigger unit than the six teen hundreds. Most of the
sixteen hundreds want you you want five foot implements, and
the forty five hundred series tractors are capable of pulling
six and seven foot stuff. One of the things that
sticks out about that particular tractor is that it doesn't
have any frills. It's just a basic tractor. It doesn't

(16:17):
have lots of electronics and buttons and things that that
that do stuff. It just operates like an old school
plane gam tractor. And so a lot of guys are
a big fan of that.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Well that that leads to another question, because there are
some of us that love bells and whistles. We love
that that there might be a TV screen that we
can watch Beverly Hillbillies on while we're while we're using
a tractor. Other people don't want any of those bells
and whistles. Uh do you have how does how does
that balance out? At ma Hindro Bobil, So.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
We have units the eleven and twenty one hundred series
tractors are again brand new to the market, but they
actually have an app that attaches to them, so you
can check how much its fuel is in your tractor
from your cell phone. Okay, and all right, there you go.
And it's like the forty five hundred series tractor that
that tractor is literally built on an old international frame

(17:11):
and so it's just old school technology, simple, easy to
work on and no electronics almost in the whole tractor.
And so we can cover you know, whichever way you
want to go with that. The sixteen hundred series tractors
have some features that you can like an electronic PTO
for example. Some people love it, some people hate it. Well,

(17:33):
in the sixteen hundred you can buy it with or
without an electronic PTO.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Okay, So the uh for people that just tuned in,
We talked about this a few minutes ago at the
beginning of our conversation. I want to make sure that
people hear this. A lot of industries, like the car industry,
are dealing with tariffs and a lot of uncertainty on pricing.
Very much, are you dealing with the same thing At

(17:58):
Mahindra Mobile with ten.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
E we are we are being told that we don't
have an answer for that, but it probably is going
to affect the price of these tractors, and so we're
encouraging people. If you're on the fence and you think
you want a tractor, come see us as soon as possible.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Okay. Now, if I'm on the fence and I decide
to get off the fence and come and get one
of these beautiful tractors. Financing, can you tell me about that?

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Absolutely? We got great financing rates on most all of
the units. We can get zero percent for eighty four months.
Some of the units we can get zero percent for
eighty four months and a two thousand dollars cash rebate
right off the list price of the tractor.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Very good now. Mahindramobile is located at fifty two to
forty five Hamilton Boulevard in Theodore. If you mentioned a
few minutes ago that people can test drive these tractors
if people want to come by and take a look,
because I'm looking at pictures, but it's far better to
be there and actually see it. Absolutely, we can touch it.
When are you open for people to be able to

(18:58):
take a look at the tractor?

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Are open Monday through Friday eight to five and Saturday
eight to noon.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Oh you have some Saturday outs we do, yes, sir, Okay,
anything else before we're out of time that you want
to mention the folks.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
I just tell people come see this. You know, we'd
love for you. Even if you're not on the fence
about a tractor and just want to drive one of
them around the parking lot, come see this. We just
like to talk to folks. We like to meet people,
and we welcome everybody to come by.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
And people don't have to come by just to buy
a tractors. If you've already got a tractor, you do service.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yep, we do service. And also if you need an
implement and give us a call.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
That's Mahindra of Mobile again on Hamilton Boulevard. Their website
is Mahindraomobile dot com and you could look at all
these great pictures at Mahindra of Mobile on Facebook. Chris,
thank you so much for coming in and talking to
us again on WNTM.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Uncle Henry, thank you so much for having me. We
really appreciate you.
