Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is News Radio seven to ten WNTM. Uncle Henry
here once again on Ask the Expert with Ron and
Anna of Mobile Bay Coins and Fine Jewelry. Mobile Bay
Coins and Fine Jewelry at twenty two oh four Government
Street at Midtown Mobile.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
They're also on Facebook and Instagram.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Lots of great pictures there and you can always find
out more about Mobile bay Coins at Mobile baycoins dot com.
So Ron and Anna were here together again. Where are
the precious metals? Things have been up and down and
a lot of just the world seems upside down economically.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Where are the precious metals?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Well, now it's reversed with gold going up. Silver was
kind of staying the same and slowly going down. But
now silver made a little climb today, but gold actually
did a little dip, not a whole lot, but you know,
one hundred dollars, one hundred dollars, but pretty much about
one hundred bucks drop.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
The correction it really was. Anytime you see things continuously climb,
whether it's a stock market, anything, it's eventually going to
have a slide back down, usually just as fast as
it went up. So really, when we researched it this
morning and it was ninety nine percent profit taking by
individuals and institutions that you know usually are required to
profit take at a certain point, so it was a
(01:22):
natural thing. And then that started climbing midday again. It
never didn't get back to yesterday's high, but it's a
healthy way to see it.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Climb the ladder.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Well, do you uh, we've seen the stock market go
up and down. We've seen this with a lot of
different things. Do you think that the precious metals are
going to wobble a little bit up and down over
the next few months.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
I do, because, yeah, the tariffs, and you have recession fears,
you have people stoking those refreshion recession fears, the news media,
the tariffs. There's so many, so many things that haven't
been in play at the same time in the past.
It's hard to really gaze what things will do. And
(02:02):
silver and gold actually act a little differently they did
than forty years ago. Forty years ago stock market would
go up, usually gold and silver would do the inverse
and go down. But nowadays gold, silver and the stock
market tend to trend together because many banks and investors
use gold and silver automatically. If they buy a certain
amount of stocks, they'll buy a certain amount of commodities
(02:24):
to offset make create a hedge, basically protect the investment.
And that's changed in the past. That really people didn't
do that. In fact, when I was growing up, if
you weren't a coin person, most people they knew of
gold and silver, of course, but they weren't. They didn't
know you could go buy it or it came in
buyers and things like that. People are much more knowledgeable nowadays,
and it's more in the news. Of course. That has
(02:45):
to do with information the way we get it nowadays,
with the internet. When I was a kid, I mean,
they were barely TVs right, just like you, So that
things have changed, yes they have.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
So I'm going to ask you the same questions I've
been asking you over the past few shops, because I'm
so curious, how are your customers reacting because they're seeing
different financial things on the news every day, So how
do they react all this?
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Well, I'll chime in on that it's been crazy, there's
no other way to describe it. So a lot of
people have actually come in and started to say, is
there a way for me to like know when silver
and gold are up on a climb? Or where they're
taking a dip like so I can come in and
buy when it's cheap and sell when it's high. And
(03:29):
something that we have actually done with our website now
is you can sign up for a newsletter where if
something's make their significant changes in the market like that,
we can send out an email to our customers and
let them know, hey, this is the time to profit
take or this is a good time to buy while
it's low, and also get in on any hot deals
(03:51):
that we might have, any new jewelry items, just anything
that's happening in the world or the shop.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
And known investors hedgers that we've done business with can
also contact us via email. The best way is to
call our text and lock in. If Silver takes a
dipter in the day and you're comfortable and you need
to buy one hundred ounces for your your headge slash investment,
all you got to do is contact us and we
will lock you in on it. Of course, you have
to within twenty four hours come and pay for that
(04:19):
and confirm whether you want us to order it. There's
a lot of different things we can do, but you
don't necessarily have to be there because that's one of
the biggest complaints that a lot dealers here around the
country is, you know, at lunchtime gold hit a point
where I would have bought it, but I didn't really
have a way to do it if he couldn't make
it down to the coin Shopever, they didn't want to
buy electronically or via the mail. So once we know
(04:39):
them and we've done business with them, we will allow
them to lock in over the phone or via text.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Okay, and the phone number if you the listener want
to call Mobile bay Coins and find jewelry two five
one seven two five fifteen ninety. That's two five one
seven fifteen ninety for Mobile Bay Coins and find jewelry,
and again mobile baycoins dot Com to always get in
touch with mobile obey corns and fine jewelry. Now, before
we go any further, Mother's Day is coming up? Any
(05:07):
any deals for Mother's Day?
Speaker 3 (05:10):
There's jewelry, of course, and I do have some rings
and necklaces and things that are strolling silver that are
by to get one free, you can't. I mean, I
would hate to just give it away at this point,
but we have so many rings, sterling silver rings, and
it's just trays and trays that never end nowadays when
(05:31):
people come in. I actually had some customers today look
at silver rings. I had to run to the back
like three different times trying to find what they were
looking for. Bring up the trays, switch stuff out. So
we have a lot of inventory. And when it comes
to gold, we have a lot of gold jewelry, beautiful
estate pieces unique I would call them heirlooms at this point,
(05:54):
but a lot of vintage pieces. There's some modern stuff,
nice diamonds. You know, Mother's Day is coming up, so
those all made great gifts. We also have one ounce
engraveables if you're just interested in getting like a piece
of silver for your mom and personalize in and engrave it.
So there is that option.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Mom's probably like that, yeah, oh yeah, And we you know,
and even we don't wanted to personalize a piece of jewelry,
there's like pendants and charms and things that you could
put on a bracelet and do it that way.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
And don't forget Dad in June either, and don't I mean,
I'm sure most dads would rather have an ounce of
silver than a tie. And you don't have to get
a whole ouns. We have quarter ounces tenth ounces. We
have youngsters come in of course that don't have the
wherewithal to buy an ounce of silver or sometimes or
things like that, so they can get a very small
amount of silver. And we love dealing with the youngsters
(06:43):
and helping them out. And I mean, give him a
deal on it, for sure. I mean if they want
to get Dad something besides the old tie. That especially.
I have a buddy that got a tie a couple
of years ago and he doesn't even wear suits and ties.
It's like, what did I get a tie for?
Speaker 3 (06:58):
But you mean you could get a tie c with
an ounce of silver in there, or a belt buckle.
There's belt buckles out there that we actually have at
the store with and you know there's rings, there's men's rings.
With jewelry, you could get a pendant as well. Some
men wear pendants or necklaces, nice beautiful gold or silver chains.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
So this is I like this idea. Instead of buying
Dad a tie again, get him a tie clip. There
you go have Mobile Bay coins and fine jewelry. Now,
I want to go back briefly to the topic of
jewelry because I want to mention, uh well, I want
to thank you both Ron and Anna for being a
part of my wedding day. I got married yesterday and
(07:42):
my bride after we after we were married, she said
we must go to Mobile bay Coins and find jewelry.
Now this is not made up, not a not a
fake story. This is completely authentic. We were heading home
and she says, no, go to I want to do
this right now. We've got to go to Mobile bay
(08:03):
cons and find jewelry. And so now we're in the
process of getting wedding rings and bands and all that
kind of stuff through Mobile bay Coins and find jewelry. Now,
you you showed us what you had in stock, and
now you're also helping. Uh are you helping her designer ring?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Is that what is happening?
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yes, there's specific she knows what she wants. That's one
thing I will say. And then she wants a specific
thing and we're gonna make that happen for So.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
This is something that you do.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
You do this for other people, you do anybody that
wants this service can get this from Mobile bay Coins.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
How does it work?
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Well, they have to tell me what they want. How
the you know what type of setting and if it's yellow, gold,
rose gold, silver, platinum, sometimes there's why gold too. I
don't think I've mentioned there's a lot of choices.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
She wants them through the whole thing. There's catalogs of
basic stoneless designs that we can order in.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
It's endless and they're there's different suppliers that we use.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Now.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
We used to be able to alter pieces, and we
could potentially do that, but it's going to cost you
more right to do that.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
So much better to pick something out standard. Pick your
just like she is. She knows the diamond she wants,
the style, she knows the setting she wants. When you
get your you're one hundred percent with the way there then,
because many most of the people come in they have
no idea and they don't even know what they want.
And that's part of what looking through catalogs and Anna
is really good depth at walking people through that process
(09:33):
and making them comfortable with it.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
And speaking of you know, diamond jewelry or weddings, engagements
and things, we do have a nice two carred diamond
and a three carrot round cut diamond that is just gorgeous.
Those the two carred diamond, you can have it set
into a setting. It does not come with one, but
the three carrat one is in a platinum setting already.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Okay, so.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
You have already thousands of jewelry items in stock. So
if people can't find what they want, and all those thousands,
you can help them.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Create the look, the exact look what they want.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yes, or as I've been called an algorithm at this
point for jewelry, because I have people that call in
and tell me or you know, stop buy and just
say like, this is what I want. This is kind
of what it looks like. It's got those vibes. This
is what I want.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Oh, vibes. It has vibes.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Yes, So and somehow in my brain, you know, something
goes b bb beep and I go, this is what
you're looking for, and they're like, oh my god, you're right,
this is what I'm looking for. So I've been called
and what is that computer thing where it's algorithm? Right,
I'm like I'm like that, yeah, after they've liked so
many pieces and this is what they like. Because I
(10:47):
have customers that go, if something similar comes in, call me,
let me know, send me a picture, text me. So
I have people that come in and they want a
certain type vibe jewelry. What I call it. Yes, that's
the new.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Term, sir.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
This.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
When we're done with this show, do you want a
recording so you can make a new ring tone of
your phone of her brain going beat beat beep.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, we probably need that.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Is that what happened? You're looking at jewely and all
of a sudden, beat beat beep. Yes, in your hands,
that happens.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Yes, Well, here's the voices and beat be beeps and
so all the time.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
You know what, if it works, it works, And it
does because, as you just pointed out, people are calling
they want that service, and I certainly appreciate the service
very much because you're helping us get exactly what we want.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yeah, and with return customers, if you come in and
I spend time with you and we find what you're
looking for, what she might like or he might like,
and you come back in the next few months or
next year, I'm going to remember you and the piece
of jewelry that you purchased, so we can get like
kind of a set going so you can keep it
(11:55):
adding to it exactly.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yes, all right, that's at Mobile Bay Coons and find Jewelry.
So a lot of us think of you as the
place to get bullion all these investment grade collectible coins.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
But jewelry is a huge part of what you do.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Yes, absolutely, all right now and again Mobile bay coins
dot com if you want to find out more at
any time during this program, tell me about some of
the new things in stock at Mobile Bay Coins and
find jewelry. When I was in there yesterday, there was
so much I didn't recognize of course.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah. So we just got in the new batterings, twenty
twenty five batterings. That's something that we've been waiting to
get on the wait list.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
What's different from the twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
The shape they changed out, the shape, It.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Is a different design. Okay.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
It's all based on which Batman used that bat around.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Oh yeah, okay.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
If you're a Batman nerd, then you know almost every
time the battering shapes are different. Okay, they're all unique.
So it's usually tied to a different Batman.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Batman design of the logo, like the little symbol, the
Batman symbol. Okay, and you as the listener, if you're
curious what we're talking about, you can check it out
on Facebook.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yes, I'm looking at it right now.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Yes, okay, So the new Bantner rings are in for
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
What else is new at Mobile Bay Coin.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Well, we just you know, a lot of people during Easter,
we're asking for more religious things and we already have,
you know, like the what's that one that somebody came in.
A couple came in. They were looking for the miraculous medal. Yeah,
that's what it was called. Yeah, so we found them
a miraculous metal civil around. It's not an actual coin.
But we do have a lot of religious things in
(13:30):
the shop as gifts, so you could get not just
at Easter, you know, for any occasion, be it communion,
first Communion or something like that, or baptism.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
So we have people come in and mentioned off the
wall stuff and either an or I always say we
got something for them.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
We have something for that.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
It's amazing the different eclectic things we either have in
stock or come in over time. And with gold and
silver being at all time highs, well at least gold
at all time highs, people bring. It's been bringing stuff
out of the woodwork. Nice jewelry has been coming in
where people have been selling new scrap items that we
can fix up and resell. All sorts of new coins
and coin designs because of the higher metal prices.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Okay, So something that we got in was this Jesus Christ,
the Creators and Wonders of Christ. And these are actually
coins that are from other parts of the world. I'll
just put it that way, because don't ask me to
pronounce these names.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Okay, all right, different countries produced them, so they are
actual monetarized coins, not just a bullion item.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
But I've never heard of this before. They have Jesus
on the coin.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Yes, yes, they feature Jesus Christ on the coin, yes, sir.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Okay. What else new at Mobile Bay coins and fine.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Jewelry and something else that we got in for people
that love fishing and you know outdoorsy stuff is it's
bag dated. This is from twenty fourteen. It features Queen
Elizabeth on the one side. But it's a it's a
funny yellow fish tuna coin. And the reason why I
say it's funny is because of the name, because it's
like I got it in. I'll just like, what the
(15:00):
heck is the kaka he yellow fish fin tuna.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
I've never really expensive.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
But I thought that was funny. And something else that
we got in that's backdated that's been long awaited for
and in high demand is the Star Wars. We got
a Stormtrooper coin in stock and there were only had one,
so anytime that they get those backdated ones in, I
try to snatch them up as quickly as I can.
And then we got a few of the millennial Falcon
(15:29):
hard time.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
He wouldn't eat Han Sola wouldn't let you on the
shifts came.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
I failed as a Jedi, I'm sorry. But and the
Mandalorian Best Car Bar as well.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
We have those in stock to Okay. So lots of
new stuff at Mobile Bay cons and Fine Jewelry. Uh
and you the listener, go in and take a look
in person as I did yesterday. You mentioned the religious stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
I saw a lot.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
You had to get ten commandments, all kind of stuff.
You mentioned engraveables for Mother's Day and I'm sure for
Father's Day. Do people get engraveables for graduation gifts?
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Oh yeah, I actually have a list of what people
are getting. They're booking and having engraved so they can
pick it up once it's finished. So if you're looking
for a gift that's I hate to use the word
but no brainer. You know, it's something that's really nice.
We give you a gift box too. It's I mean,
(16:26):
you can't. It doesn't get easier than this, but it's
announces silver and it comes in a bar shape and
a round shape and the front features you know, happy
graduation or you know, congratulations graduate twenty twenty five with
the little cap and everything, and on the back you
can put anything that you want, either the person's name,
(16:48):
the date, or just some kind of message for the
occasion from you personally.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
It's minute all the time from gentlemen. We have guys
coming in all the time that are on the way
home and it's their wife, their birthday, anniversary, whatever, and
they got to set her up with something and make
it look like they didn't just stop by and grab
it on the right home. So I mean, and we
have gift bag stuff and we can set it up
to where they can tell you spent a little bit
of time. You just dont run and grab something and
(17:15):
run out, so we can. It happens more often than not. Yes,
lasted part of the day. Can you stay open ten minutes?
Speaker 2 (17:22):
I will be killed.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
The mobile Bay coins Helpline, Yes, we will assist you
with any any last minute gifts.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
The mobile bay Coins and find jewelry helpline two five
one seven five fifteen ninety mobile bay coins dot com.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Now your website looks different.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yes, we've revamped the website a little bit. And the
other thing that I mentioned earlier, the newsletter. This was
something I was in high demand with the way things
were going on. When the market people are like, is
there a wait for me to like an easy way
to track what's happening and if you have any deals
and things. So we've kind of put it all in
one place to where you can actually go to our
website and at the top search bar you'll see towards
(18:00):
I think it's right after shop, you'll see newsletter button.
Click that newsletter button and you can actually type in
your email address, hit submit, and you will get added
to a mailing list, and I won't spam you with emails.
It's only gonna be like maybe once a week, if
not at once every two weeks something like that.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
All rights deal unless.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Another big deal comes up or something drastic happens. But
this is a way for you to track if you know,
gold jumps up two hundred dollars or silver goes up
sixty dollars, who knows, you know, anything could happen. So
the or hot deals, new items that come in.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Most people do want that give us their cell phone
number and a lot and give us provision to text them.
So we just have a group text where everybody doesn't
see each other's numbers, but they all get the same message.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Yes, okay, Well I just and it's easy to sign
up and just did yes all I just took my
email address and that's it. So now I'm subscribed as well.
There again, that's at mobile bay coins dot com.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Now, Ron earlier you.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Talked about helping kids if they're coming in buying dad
or mom something, helping the young customer at Mobile bay Coins.
Do you have anything that can encourage kids there? Any
ways to encourage young people to become collectors and appreciate
this stuff that you love so much.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah, and the young person, the child, whatever doesn't have
to be that their parents can pick up. We have
basically free a young collector goodie bag. It's just a
little bag that yeah, freebie. Just give it to your kid.
What we're looking to do, obviously is get new customers
and young kids that want to come in and do
stuff I did when I was a kid going to
(19:37):
coin shops and the evenings are on Saturdays usually and
sit there and look through boxes and fill out an album,
talk to other kids, meet people, not just sit on
your phone or play games. And nothing against being on
your phone or playing games, but with coins you can
turn it into something that actually will teach you things
about how to manage money, how to save, how to
have things. It's great you need money for something a
(19:58):
new pair of shoes. Doesn't want you to have those shoes,
but says there in your own money, you could sell
one of your coins, some of your silver and get
that item.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Nowadays, it's not shoes, it's video games.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Yeah, it's it's just there whatever. Example.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
But and we do have an excellent book for young
collectors too, so you could get a book. You would
have to buy the book, but the goodie bag is free.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Okay, so a young collector goodie bag that you're often
for free to the young at Mobile Bay coins and
find jewelry. We're getting close to being out of time here.
Do you still have time to do the free appraisals?
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Yes, we do, and we appreciate that I had a
free appraisal from a longtime customer came in yesterday towards
the end of the day and dropped off his aunt's
coin collection, and he didn't think there's gonna be anything
in there. I wish he would have sold it. It was.
I did it most of it last evening, finished it
this morning and had examples of coins that are some
of my favorite. Oh yeah, like eighteen thirty seven half
(20:55):
dimond seeded dime, no stars. It's just a real good,
pretty coin. It's the seat deliberty design, but not a
lot of stuff on the averse. Just Liberty is sitting
on a stone and the date. It's kind of a
I like those kind of designs. And it's the only
people the public didn't like it, so they did it
for a very short period of time. And it's an
expensive coin, but by expensive I mean five hundred bucks,
(21:15):
not something that could have break the bank. But Harry,
she had all sorts of that stuff mixed in with
just common stuff. It was a very fun free appraisal.
I enjoy them all.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
So the appraisal is free. They don't have to sell. Nope, Okay,
he didn't sell.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
I was disappointed myself, but.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Yeah, Ron is crying that he got to play with
the coins, but he didn't get to keep them, even by.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
Them, I understand. I mean that they have other members
of the family involved, but it's a he already knows
if anybody wants to sell any of those, we're interested,
so you don't have to sell them to us. A
lot of times it gets allows me to see things
I haven't been able to see if it wasn't for
that free appraisal.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Okay, free appraisals. You can call two five one seven
two five fifteen ninety. That's two five one seven two
five fifteen ninety at Mobile Bay Coins and Fine Jewelry.
And right as we're out of time, Uh, you're looking
for some to come.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Work for you, we are. We've been looking me back
from God love Him Angelo days. We wanted somebody that
could kind of fill in for me and be a
coin expert, because Angelo can only do so much and
I can only do so much. Anna has picked up
a lot of the slack, and I still need somebody else,
So somebody. They don't have to know coins. They have
to be smart and be have to out. They have
(22:21):
to have either coin experience or sales experience. Wanted too
much service customer service. They got to have something. They
can't just be a rookie. But I mean, I've met
some young youngsters that I would hire in a heartbeat.
The one kid's only fifteen's like, hurry up and be eighteen. Man,
he was you're meant to be in the skip college.
Come on in and work because he has a desire
to do that when he gets older. So somebody just
(22:41):
wants a way to grow a lot of growth in
the company. But you got to have experience. You got
to want to be able to customer service and be
willing to learn and already have some sales experience.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Okay, So if someone is interested, they can call. Do
